Driveclub: Free PS Plus Edition Detailed; New info on Car Customization, Tracks, Realism and More

by on April 30, 2014 3:01 PM 204

With the re-reveal of Driveclub happened yesterday the newly appointed Game Director Paul Rustchynsky is hard at work responding to the questions of the fans as a follow-up to an informative article on the PlayStation Blog.

First of all, we get some more details on the length and variety of the tracks that will be available in the game:

The length of the roads and race tracks in DRIVECLUB vary massively, with some that you can speed around in less than a minute and others that stretch on for miles. The longest takes 5 minutes end-to-end, even with your foot to the floor in any one of the quickest cars in the game!

We did try our hand at making even longer tracks and while it was possible, it was difficult to keep super long tracks feeling fresh and exciting, especially when you’re racing because the pack you’re racing with tends to break up the longer the race goes on.

All of the tracks that feature in DRIVECLUB are authentic and based on real world reference trips, but rather than just recreate reality we exploit the freedom of games design to make them more exciting and enjoyable!

He also explained where the game is placed compared to the arcade and simulation racing genres:

Our ambition was always to transcend “arcade” and “simulation” stereotypes because we want to bring fans of all racing games (and all of their friends) together in DRIVECLUB. The driving model we’ve developed offers the best of both worlds, with handling that offers many layers of depth to allow players of all ability to race together.

If you come from a background of arcade racing or you’re completely new to racing, you’ll find it easy to pick up and you’ll quickly learn that you do need to use the brakes more than you would in most arcade racing games.

If you come from a background of simulation racing or you understand the art of race craft, you’ll be able to pull off advanced driving techniques and use the weight and velocity of the car realitsitically to keep to the racing line and shave milliseconds of of your lap times.

Rustchynsky then promised to release more footage, including direct gameplay recorded from PS4, mentioning that the the team has been hard at work in exploiting the power of the PS4 and they’ll continue to strive for the best results until release:

We will be showing you more of the game before and at E3, including direct gameplay captured from PS4.

We’re keen for you to see how much it’s improved since you last saw it, even for the areas where we’ve already achieved great things. Our artists have relished the extra time to add more cars and tracks and to add detail upon detail to the cars and tracks we’ve had all along. They’re all trying to one-up each other and exploit the power of PS4 as much as possible and they’ll continue to do so until you get your hands on the game. So you can definitely expect us to be proudly sharing updates with you for the rest of the year.

We also finally get some specific details on the free PS Plus Edition and on how it’ll differ from the boxed one:

The PlayStation Plus Edition hasn’t changed. It’s hardly a demo because you get access to all of the game’s features online and offline. The difference is that you only have 10 cars and you can only race in one country (which gives you access to 5 tracks with 11 distinct variants).

That includes the explanation on why it won’t be possible to complete the single player Tour mode with the PlayStation Plus edition:

Simply because the PlayStation Plus Edition doesn’t include all of the cars and tracks that you’ll need to complete DRIVECLUB Tour.

If you’re wondering how much customization will be allowed for the liveries of the cars, Rustchynsky gave some information on that front too:

You’ll be able to customise your vehicles using liveries that you unlock throughout the game, changing colours and paint finishes of the various layers. This will allow you to create unique paint jobs that’ll make you and your club stand out from the pack.

Finally, he gave a few more miscellaneous details, that you can read below:

  • There are no plans for 3D support.
  • No monster trucks (I guess the one who asked was a Motorstorm fan) in the game.
  • Racing wheels will have 1:1 ratio, but will be locked at 720 degrees (of the 900 available) to provide a more accessible experience.
  • There will be the possibility to turn the HUD off like in inFAMOUS: Second Son.

One thing is for sure: the team at Evolution Studios has been hard at work on the game, and what we’ve seen in the past two days proves that all that effort hasn’t gone wasted. You can expect more news about Driveclub here on DualShockers very soon.

    Realism… At 30fps :/

    • Delsin Rowe

who cares ? at least they dont downgrade the game like microsoft did with forza5. lol

      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-23-digital-foundry-vs-forza-motorsport-5

      • Raven Nafariea

lol. Screw them. Just enjoy the game. I know I will =)

        • Delsin Rowe

oh i will. but i’ll go for the full version.
here. this is for you ;)

          • Raven Nafariea

Thanks. thats where i got it from. I might change it. Ellie looks so sad. lol

      • Jessie Bristol

Of course sacrifices had to be made with Forza 5, it runs at a locked 60 FPS even during a 16 player online race. It is the only game this generation that has achieved a locked 1080p60 (and being a launch game as well).

If Microsoft delayed the game a year they could have done quite a bit more with it.

Edit: Aside from games like Rayman Legends.

        • Delsin Rowe

yeah you’re right. microsoft is the best , xbox one is the best , major nelson is the best. you can have all of them. if xbox one could have run a game like killzone shadowfall at 1080p, i”ll believe you. but the problem is from xbox one , not the devs , not anything else.

          • Jessie Bristol

What the hell? Wow you take stuff out of context. What I stated was a fact, there are no other games on Xbox One or PS4 that run at a locked 1080p60, they’re always unlocked framerates that fluctuate.

I never said “microsoft is the best , xbox one is the best , major nelson is the best.” And how much do you think Guerrilla Games would have to had downgraded Killzone to run at a locked 1080p60 at launch? There is a reason Driveclub runs at 1080p30 and not 1080p60, they preferred eye candy over frame rate.

Me not being a racing fan, nor really play racing games, I cannot comment on how that would impact the game (arcade racer vs sim racer).

          • Delsin Rowe

first , if you look at the 7th gen, both forza and gran turismo runs 1080p and 60fps on ps3 and xbox360
            so it’s no biggie !

          • Jessie Bristol
          • Delsin Rowe

what ? wooow. xbox is the worst platform of all time. lol

          • Jessie Bristol

Gran Turismo gives the option of running in either 720p or 1080p. In 720p it give an almost locked 60fps, in 1080p it runs closer to 45fps,

            http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-vs-gran-turismo-6

Edit: Dropping to about 52 fps in certain situations in 720p.

          • Dennis Djoenz

Resogun is 1080p60 fps If I’m not mistaken, but yeah impressive for Forza 5 nonetheless.

          • Jessie Bristol

Yes, hence my edit previously when I mentioned Rayman Legends. Forgot about Resogun. Housemarque did a good job optimizing the game with all of the particles and physics happening on screen.

          • Xtreme Derp

There are tradeoffs between res, framerate, and visual effects. PS4′s hardware is more powerful so it has a larger budget for those things overall.

PS4 will have better performing games for the entire generation as it has more powerful hardware, you can’t overcome a hardware gap with better drivers/SDKs. Any game running on Xbox One can be run with better framerate/resolution/visual effects on PS4.

Exclusively 1080p 60 FPS games on PS4: MGS V, CoD Ghosts, FFXIV, Tomb Raider, MLB The Show 14, Resogun, Trials Fusion

Exclusively 1080p 60 FPS games on Xbox: Forza 5 (LOL)

          • Jessie Bristol

Max: Curse of Brotherhood is also 1080p60 on Xbox One, as well Fifa, Madden, NBA, etc. But I was talking about games with a locked 60 fps presentation not games that can hit that mark. I know MGSV Ground Zeroes is pretty consistent, alongside Trials and Resogun.

But FFXIV is not a smooth experience either in 1080p, it averages around 30 – 45 fps.

          • D-Kon

Pretty sure Killer Instinct does too

          • You are flat out wrong

            IIRC Filler Instinct is 720p.

        • They Call Me Senpai

Not difficult seeing as Forza is linear and doesn’t have much going on in the background. Not to mention the visual downgrade it got prior to launch makes it even less impressive.

Had Microsoft delayed it, it wouldn’t look much different. And Forza has frame drops, my friends on Facebook, Youtubers and Gaffers have proven it.

          • Jessie Bristol

So, you’re saying the game wouldn’t look much different had they delayed it? That is like saying none of the games on Xbox One would look better throughout it’s generation when compared to launch titles. A 12 month delay would have helped the game.

          • dranzer1

Forza has amazing car models but the scenery got downgraded for 60fps. Forza could handle much more graphics and scenery if it were 30 fps.

        • luvthesnapper

if driveclub looked as bad as forza, then it would easily run at 60 fps.

          • Jessie Bristol

I don’t think Forza 5 looks bad, but of course if it were running at 30fps it would look much better.

        • Jecht_Sin

Resogun runs at 1080p60fps. Locked. So does Flower. Also some sport games like FIFA 14 (I’ll be honest: in both consoles). All launch titles.

          • Jessie Bristol

I know Resogun does and I said (in my post below) that Housemarque did a good job with the game. I had forgotten about it until Dennis brought it up.

    • They Call Me Senpai

Yes, its not like it’s impossible. Your trolling has failed.

    • Xtreme Derp

Of course you’d be too stupid to understand the tradeoffs between res, framerate, and visual effects. And the fact that PS4′s hardware is more powerful so it has a larger budget for those things.

    • You are flat out wrong

      It’s an arcade racer.

  • Delsin Rowe

well , it’s better to go for the full version. i think we can expect the full experience in that version. thanks for the news, but dont forget this news either :D
    blog.us.playstation.com/2014/04/30/call-of-duty-ghosts-multiplayer-demo-coming-this-weekend/

  • pastreaver

i tweeted the game director to please downgrade and hit 60fps. its just more noticeable than all the effects they are implementing. what is their team thinking really?

    • Boerewors

Why dont they just let us decide? I for one like my games to run at a even 60fps (capped), while others want high resolution. Just put in some freakin sliders already, what is this… The digital Stone Age? If devs can’t make the right decisions (at least IMO) please allow me to do so myself.

      • Delsin Rowe

you can’t. you are not a dev. you can’t see the whole picture in your position ;)

        • Boerewors

All games are developed on PC one way or another. The devs change between 1080p and 720 all the time, mostly with just a tap on a switch. But when the final product is delivered, all options are taken out. They can easily let me decide whether I prefer my fps to be 60 or my resolution 1080. Ofcourse they can always give their recommendations and 90% of the people will never change it; but it would be nice to have a bit more control for the purists (or people with older TV sets ;) )

      • bradsboards

I like consoles because there is consistency and I know that I am getting the same experience as everyone else playing on the console. I don’t like making trade offs because I always feel like I’m missing out on something. The good news is there is a fantastic platform for people who want full control of their presentation and enjoy making those choices – it’s called a PC. If you want to be able to change your graphics settings buy and play games on a PC.

        • pastreaver

look its the don mattrick of dualshockers lol

          • bradsboards

Yes, because I am clearly suggesting that he buy an 8 year old piece of outdated hardware.

          • pastreaver

lol im just having fun, i own PC, i have love for pc. gtx 780 ti powered

          • Delsin Rowe

oh my god you are worst. you are a pc fan ? someone who just played multiplatform games and dota ?
            i’m outta here.

      • starscream1180

thats never going to happen. if you want that youre going to need to buy a gaming pc.

        • Boerewors

I have one, hardly ever use it. I don’t need full customization like on a PC, nor do I do like mods, cause they can overly complicate a game…but I just feel developers, Nintendo aside, aren’t making the right calls in the FPS/resolution debate, so I desperately hope I can make em myself one day. Evolution’s choice for 30fps is an understandable one: 90% of the people just like crisp graphics and don’t mind the extensive use of motion blur. But I feel social connectivity and a day/night cycle should never be picked above 60 fps and good handling. But even with the direction they take, they can still address people like me by giving just a tad more freedom.
And although you’re right that it’ll never happen, it still frustrates me. And honestly, looking at the bigger picture, it amazes me; I never imagined that in 2014 we would still be talking about sacrificing 60fps for better graphics, I’d always imagined 1080p and 60fps would go hand in hand by now.

        • neko working

okay, even so we can’t play it on PC.

        • Aidan Murphy

Gran Turismo 6 was 1080p on PS3, aswell as an uncapped FR which was around 45fps http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-vs-gran-turismo-6

          • starscream1180

gt6 visually looks like an 16-bit game compared to drive club.

      • neko working

who knows, they probably will do 60fps at Grand Turismo 7.

    • superkarma

They’re thinking it’s an arcade racer and arcade racers don’t need nor benefit from 60fps. So why should they downgrade graphics for something that won’t benefit the game?

      • They Call Me Senpai

        Arcade sim.

        • superkarma

          Arcade.

        • Gamez Rule

I’ll try the PS+ version first, but if it plays like N4S-rivals I’ll give it a miss. Shame as was really looking forward to this game. I knew the developers stated they were targeting 60fps so it’s shocking they couldn’t do it.

Need for speed rivals didn’t feel smooth when I played it and that
was capped at 30fps, so I’m disappointed to hear that Driveclub is
          locked down at 30fps too.

  • Pedestrian

i’m not the one for racing games but this being free for plus members i can’t say i won’t try it out, hopefully it end up like how they wanted to make it.

  • Sticky Notes

Guys, looks at the screenshots. They look amazing. Seriously this game looks incredible. You can tell they really took their time to present the most impressive visuals.

    • Pedestrian

yeah this game have always looked good, from the first trailer they’ve shown back in february 2013 at ps4 reveal i knew this one is gonna be a big hit for ps4.

    • Mark

This game has only 30fps! It’s too slow for racing games. Good for screenshots, Bad for gameplay

      Forza 5: 1080p 60fps
      DriveClub: 1080p 30 fps !!!

      • You are flat out wrong

I don’t remember people complaining about 30fps in Forza Horizon 2, a similar game to Drive Club.

        As for Forza 5, well…

        • Mark

Games from last gen have 30 fps:
          - Forza 4, Forza Horizon – 30 fps
          - Gran Turismo 6 – 30 fps

Games from current gen should run 60 fps:
          - Forza 5 (1080p 60fps)
          - Forza Horizon 2 will use engine from Forza 5 1080p 60fps

          • Mikail

my ps3 can play 1080p withy 60 frames as well, but the quality of the game will be the same with forza 5 LOL

          • LOL

            “ps3 can play 1080p with 60 frames”

Magic power of CELL CPU :)
PS3 is 10x faster than PS4. Hail to the King! CELL!!!!

          • extermin8or2

….. any hardware could do 60 fps with whatever resolution if you downtone the graphics so he’s right. PS3 and the 360 too could do 1080p 60fps if the game was say… a ps2 era game or a ps1 game….

          • You are flat out wrong

Flopza Horizon 2 doesn’t even officially exist, and I hope it doesn’t use the same engine, I don’t want another Flopza game that looks like PS2 shovelware.

          • BIG DOOKY

Forza 4 was 60 fps, get it right first.

      • Arnold Stallone

It’s really a huge concern, indeed.
        It’s like your 2 inches weenie :
        - perfect for fapping with 2 fingers…
        - … but you will be forced to play the ‘girl’, if one day you leave your bedroom and meet your boyfriend.

True problems, man, true problems. Life sucks, right?

      • neko working

just like NFS on my vita, got no problem with 30fps :)
        Forza 5: 1080p 60fps (heavily downgraded) *fixed*

  • superkarma

Nice, definitely going to pick this up at launch day. Interested to hear more about it in the weeks/months to come.

I couldn’t care less about it being locked at 30fps. It’s an arcade racer. Arcade racers don’t need 60fps. NFS is 30fps, The Crew is 30fps, and so on. GT6/Forza 5 are 60fps due to them being sim racers.

    • starscream1180

i agree, but ive been told plenty of times on here by fanboys that its a sim/arcade hybrid lmaooooo , …. im pretty sure its a full on arcade racer ,…either way should be fun

      • They Call Me Senpai

If by “fanboy” you mean “someone with eyes”, then you’re right. And you may be sure that it’s an arcade racer, but you’re horribly wrong.

      • JustGaming

That’s one way of looking at it, or you could look at it the way it was stated – that arcade racer types won’t be shut out, and racing sim finds will find depth.

    • They Call Me Senpai

Its not an arcade racer, its an arcade simulator: “Our ambition was always to transcend “arcade” and simulation” stereotypes because we want to bring fans of all racing games (and all of their friends) together in DRIVECLUB.”

      • superkarma

That’s PR talk. Anyone with half a brain can see just from the few gameplay videos that it’s an arcade racer. Not sure why some of you act like being an arcade racer makes it a bad thing…it doesn’t.

        • They Call Me Senpai

If it’s PR talk, then it’s truthful because it’s obviously s cross between a sim and arcade racer. If it were anymore a sim, people would confuse it for Gran Turismo.

          • superkarma

I don’t see anything suggesting it’s a cross between the two. I see a very small pinch of realism as far as the driving mechanics, but aside from that, all I see is an arcade racer. That very small pinch of realism for driving mechanics isn’t enough to say it’s a cross between the two.

“If it were anymore a sim, people would confuse it for GT”…lol.

    • neko working

yeah, i’m sure they will do 60fps GT7, no doubt

  • starscream1180

ill check the free version out … hopefully it plays like it looks.

    • theodor70941

I’ve actually tried one of the tracks on a game convention where I live. If what I played there is anything to go by then the game is probably gonna be a master piace. It’s worth to mention that I tried a version before it was delayed.

  • Vious

Wait….I thought the game was free.
But in all you get 55 events free with 5 cars. That basically sounds like a demo with a twist that you get all the online and offline features….still I wonder what that could be.
Anyway, free you get to dabble in it a bit, if you want more you’ll have to pay up. Not a bad proposition I guess

    • Delsin Rowe

i wonder how many AAA and free game you get from microsoft. lol

      • Vious

Hmm don’t know. Got a couple free dlc on the x1, got a lot of free games on the 360.
But are you trying to say you get drive club free?

        • Delsin Rowe

Me not. because i wanna support sony. but alot of peoples are. so that counts.

          • Vious

Oh ok Cool. I can understand that

          • Russell Gorall

You want to support a corporation?

      • dranzer1

So why did you bring up MS when his comment had nothing to do with them?

        • Delsin Rowe

          none of your bussines.

          • Michael Cardwell

            That’s a dumb reply..

          • Russell Gorall

            1. Insert fanboy statement

            2. Run away

            3. Delsin Rowe, at your service

        • Vious

because in reality he had nothing else to say about it but to deflect. I wasnt’ even saying anything bad about the game.

          • superkarma

Yes, yes you were. You were doing your usual passive-aggressive schtick. Same thing you do in every Sony article.

          • Vious

however you want to put it buddy.

          • superkarma

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see how transparent you are. Perhaps you should switch up your trolling techniques?

          • Raven Nafariea

I always thought they stood out like a sore thumb. Very easy to spot indeed.

          • Vious

I don’t think you know the definition of “troll”.
have fun with your game if you end up buying it.

          • superkarma

See, that’s the thing…I do know the definition of troll and you clearly are one, as proven by your past comments. Thanks for your concern — I will have fun with my game.

          • Russell Gorall

You accuse someone of trolling while trolling, superkarma. Rookie mistake.

          • superkarma

And how exactly was I trolling? Please, do enlighten me.

          • Russell Gorall

You seriously don’t know what trolling is? Why are you stating others are trolling, then?

            Again, stop trolling.

          • superkarma

I’m still waiting on you to enlighten me on how I was trolling. Please, go ahead. Stop deflecting and backpedaling and have at it, boss.

          • Russell Gorall

You accuse someone of trolling, and then troll even more?

Are you asking what the definition of trolling is? You have been told a couple of times you don’t know what it means. Why are you stating others are trolling when you are trolling yourself, then troll in response.

If you want to know what the word means, just ask.

          • superkarma

Again, more deflection. You can’t answer a simple question. I’ll ask you a third time now…how exactly was I trolling? Lets see if you dodge this question once more.

          • Russell Gorall

Look up the definition of “trolling”. Again, if you don’t know what it means stop using the term.

Are you asking what the word means?

          • superkarma

Go figure, you dodged a very simple question…for a 3rd time. Shocking.

Anyways, I’m done feeding the troll. Enjoy :)

          • Russell Gorall

You should really just look up the word, that way you would know what it means.

          • askjiir

            Lol, you’re such a d*ck

      • Russell Gorall

What does Microsoft have to do with anything?

    • Jecht_Sin

      *10 cars. Considering that for $60 Forza 5 has 15 tracks…

      • Vious

Ok you want to bring forza into this. Roughly 600 events in forza 5 if I remember correctly.
Also, the game is 60fps thank you very much

        • GameDev345

          Yeah with heavy downgrade

          • Russell Gorall

Compared to a game that was delayed a year, and still not actually playable?

The tradeoffs are usually worth it, which is why most games are moving to 60fps. If a Sony title can’t run at 60fps, the developer really did go back to the drawing board.

          • GameDev345

Yeah the trade offs in Drive Club are much better in my opinion.

locked 30fps with improving graphics immerses you into the game.

locked 60fps, with cardboard crowd and reduced graphics is a terrible tradeoff, should have gone 30fps with Forza5.

Exclusively 1080p 60 FPS games on Xbox: Forza 5 (LOL),

          • Vious

out of all those games you mentioned only Forza 5 is actually a true 1080p@60fps constant.

          • superkarma

Nope, Resogun runs at 1080p@60fps constant as well. Also, as mentioned further down in the comments, so do a few other games.

          • Vious

resogun? maybe I should’ve said AAA and not include an indie resogun.

          • superkarma

Beside the point. As usual, you have no idea what you’re talking about and were (once again) proved wrong. It’s understandable how you would then use the go-to defense and deflect. It’s ok that your precious Forza game isn’t the only one running at 1080p/60fps locked. Deal with it.

          • Vious

sure I’ll deal with that. you can go on about an indie being 1080p@60 while I will talk about AAA games. can’t believe you would even try to use that with a straight face. wwwww

I’m sure that I’ll see you crying later about how “Sony Fanboys” are always trolling Xbox topics….BTW, the whole “ponie” thing says nothing at all about us and only makes you guys look stupid. Get some new material…seriously

          • Vious

            ???
            my comment history is open.
and about the “ponie”, I think you’re telling that to the wrong person.
anyway, the gif above also goes for you too.

          • Sucka Free

“anyway, the gif above also goes for you too.”

I’m sure that you would like for me to think so, but really it says more about you than it does anyone else.

Seriously, ponie? Doesn’t it bother you that the best you guys could come up with sounds like it came from pre-school?

          • Raven Nafariea

No kidding, it makes no sense what so ever and every time someone says that I am not taking it as an insult I am just thinking how awesome ponies are! Or, that the PS4 just has more ponies “horsepower” under the hood than the X1. hehe

          • Sucka Free

I always think of my all time favorite anime episode:

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkepOw6KGu4

          • datdude

Sony ponies > Microsofties. Every time.

          • Sucka Free

LMAO, hate to break it to you, but “Microsofties” isn’t any better.

          • Raven Nafariea

I just call them Fanboys. No need to have to make up childish slurs and stoop to their level.

          • datdude

Well you know what they say, opinions are like…………

          • Sucka Free

I do know what they say, do you know the difference between a smart a.. and a dumb a..?

          • datdude

I certainly do, and I’m looking at you, the rare bird who is a prime example of both, simultaneously.

          • Sucka Free

            uh-huh…whatever

          • askjiir

Why don’t you mention mgs zeroes, ghosts and trials fushion as constant 60fps? Not just Resogun.

          • superkarma

Because even though those are 60fps games, they aren’t locked at 60fps. Not many games are. The fps will fluctuate depending on what’s going on in the game. A game that has it locked stays a constant 60fps no matter what.

          • askjiir

But they are locked at 60 fps. Tomb Raider isn’t. FFXIV certainly isn’t, but the ones i mentioned is.

          • datdude

Ok. Well maybe if you’re going to include Forza 5 we’ll decide that when the next racing game in the series has fewer tracks and fewer cars than Forza 4 that really doesn’t cut it. And maybe we’ll decide that no day/night cycle and no weather means it’s not a real racer. And maybe we’ll decide that a racing game replete with microtransactions is a complete waste of everyone’s time. See what happens when you play silly little games, little boy? Is Forza really triple A considering how much it got gutted for xbone? Paying more to get less doesn’t seem wise, nor does it seem fun. Good luck with that.

        • superkarma

How many copies did Forza 5 sell? Just barely over 1 million…7 months after release. That’s if you go by VGchartz, which historically usually gives software sales the benefit of the doubt. On top of that, that’s after all the bundles, price drops, and literally giving the game away for free. Lol.

Those 600 events and 60fps don’t mean much if no one is playing the game. But hey, at least you get to brag about the cool features in it, right?

          • Vious

when I go online there’s always people online in the events no matter what time I go. how many copies the game sold doesn’t make a difference to me if I can always go online and have people to play with.

            -
I play the game and it means a lot. saying it means nothing just sort of doesn’t make any sense.

      • Russell Gorall

Why do you bring up Microsoft in every other post?

    • Sucka Free

They said from the beginning there would be a different version for PS+

    • RA3030

I thought they said 10 cars and 5 tracks for the free to play? 10 cars and 5 tracks is about what The XB1CB Forza game demo had…. Oh’wait, wait that wasn’t free 2 play that was the full game that cost $60 ouch! that would suck. OH’Well that’s Microsoft for ya we all know how greedy they are. Makes me wonder with Titanfall being $60 and no more than a demo if all Microsoft Xbox One Cable Box games are $60 demo’s?

  • They Call Me Senpai

Day one buy for me. Aside from Motorstorm (because of the chaos), I wasn’t really into racers, but Evolution changed that last year. The cars and tracks look absolutely gorgeous, and they’re only going to look better by the time October rolls around.

  • bleedsoe9mm

i’ll play the free version of DC and buy Forza horizon 2

    • ImonadrugcalledCharlieSheen

So take the free version of the better game and pay for the garbage game, makes no sense but whatever.

      • bigevilworldwide

Well more likely than not he doesn’t own a PS4 so he wont be playing Driveclub at all anyway, but just to sound hip and cool he’ll pretend

  • They Call Me Senpai

They’ve done a great job of combining arcade and simulator, I can’t wait to see more.

  • TZuck

Any word on splitscreen? thought at one point (last year) they said no, but things change and i would really love it if they did…

  • Michael Balchunas

Well that just confirms my decision… will be buying the full version.

  • Abeer Hasan

Racing wheels will have 1:1 ratio, but will be locked at 720 degrees (of the 900 available) to provide a more accessible experience.

There will be the possibility to turn the HUD off like in inFAMOUS: Second Son.

Haha both questions were asked by me.

  • MrSec84 .

That’s all sounding pretty good too me.
I’m fine with the 1080p 30FPS settings, though I wish going forward that developers would maybe give options to maybe lower settings that don’t effect the visuals too much & get a game like this to have a slightly higher frame rate, I get why Evolution has gone with the choice they made to up the visuals as much as possible, to be fair even if PS4 had a 780ti some developers would choose the highest visual quality possible in their games, over frame rate.

This game does look great from a visual standpoint & if the frame rate is truly locked at 30FPS it should still feel pretty fluid, it’d just be nice to have some choice as this would please a wider audience.
If things are locked at 30FPS then there has to be a bit of a buffer on the upper end.

The PS+ version’s sounding pretty good, 10 cars & 5 tracks, with 11 variations from 1 country sounds pretty good too me for a bit more than just a taster of what the game offers.
I’d like to know what & how many cars are in the full retail game, also locations & track count of the full retail game?
Will there be any free roaming sections of certain countries, like major land marks?

Not sure if those questions have been answered, I’m sure they’ve been asked by some.
I know a vague list of some 30 odd cars that people have found from various trailers has already been compiled by some sites, but how accurate they are remains to be seen.
I guess Evolution will probably hold off on giving out full details until closer to release.
New stuff could also be added I guess between now & in October, when this comes out.

    • Russell Gorall

I would rather play it at 720p upscaled and 60fps.

      • bigevilworldwide

Of course you would you owned a 360 they physically could not do native 1080p…..All you know is upscaled….Protip the 360 could not do 1080p native and YES the PS3 could…Google 1080p PS3 and 1080p 360, one has a list of native 1080p games the other does not

  • joe

So are they going to microtransaction the cars and tracks and everything else or do you just have to buy the full game for $60 if you want more.

    • vcarvega

From my understanding… it’s either play the PS+ version or buy the full game for $60. No mention of micro-transactions so far.

  • vcarvega

I’ll try out the PS+ version first… My main concern is the game play, more so than the variety of cars, tracks, and customization. If they nail the actual racing, I’ll be more than happy to buy the full version.

My main concern is that none of the videos they were showing off last year showed much racing against AI or real players. It was also a race against a ‘ghost’ version of some one else’s race. The racing modes will need to be much more extensive than that to hold my interest.

  • Da GeeZ

Oh boy, this game has disaster written all over it.
    Next please…

    • superkarma

Oh boy, your comment has delusional fanboy written all over it.
      Next please…

      • Da GeeZ

Wow… no 3D support?! Did you read that? sony was pushing that so so hard a few years back. It was the next big thing wasn’t it? Boy, that died real quick, the 3D fad. Gonna be the same with VR headsets, just too clumsy and generally not a comfortable experience. Morpheus is dead already.

        • superkarma

          Again, another delusional fanboy comment.

        • You are flat out wrong

As many people care about 3D as they care about Kinect: 0.

        • ImonadrugcalledCharlieSheen

Remember when Microsoft was pushing HD DVD instead of Bluray, remember that? That was the next big thing wasn’t it? Look how that turned out. Your the best kind of troll there is cause its super easy to throw your own sh!t back in your face.

        • chrisredfield31

It doesn’t stop with Xbots. Always gotta bring up an irrelevant bullet point rather than talk about the game.

      • Russell Gorall

        Speaking of delusional fanboy…

        • superkarma

          Speaking of moronic troll…

          • Russell Gorall

            Speaking of trolling…

    • You are flat out wrong

1080p/30fps, looks gorgeous, I’ve played it and it’s fun.

When are you getting a game next? I hope Sunset Boulevard or whatever is decent when they start hyping that up in a few days cos the Xbone line up is looking per-etty dry.

      • Russell Gorall

I’ve played it and it had a ton of technical issues, very bland and jaggy.

        • You are flat out wrong

I’ve played it and it played well and looked stunning, the lighting engine really impressed me. Your point?

          • superkarma

Yeah, I have no idea what he’s talking about. I just played it the other day and it was a technical masterpiece.

          • Russell Gorall

My point was my reply, what are we doing here?

        • superkarma

Lmao…yet you call others trolls. Hilarious.

          • Russell Gorall

            We have fun.

    • ImonadrugcalledCharlieSheen

So did your conception but that did stop your parents now did it.

    • chrisredfield31

Why, because it doesn’t fit some fanboy specification?

  • ImonadrugcalledCharlieSheen

“There will be the possibility to turn the HUD off like in inFAMOUS: Second Son”

YES! And a photo mode to please.

  • betelgeuse

wasnt motorstorm 30 fps and that played just fine.

    • bigevilworldwide

Some idiots have a hard time grasping that not every game needs 60fps…Yes it’s nice but it really only needs it IF the game has fast twitch action like FPS

  • Mikail

If they choose to focus on gfx graphic rather then frame rate and resolution, i am fine with it. Hey at least they honest not like others companies that downgraded their graphic effect.

  • Flytrap

It’s a free extended trial in reality, but 10 cars and a 5 tracks is more than enough for me to play with until I absolutely have to spend the coin.

  • Russell Gorall

If Xbox One can run a racer at 1080p/60fps, I am sure the PS4 could have.

    • You are flat out wrong

It could, it was just need to look like crap like Forza 4.5 does.

      • Russell Gorall

That is a really fanboyish response. The game was delayed for a year, and they still have no intention of having it run at 60fps?

        • You are flat out wrong

That would have meant sacrificing fidelity, which your kind still would have gloated over. No winning with you lot – I’m glad they went for making the best-looking racing game ever.

          • Russell Gorall

“You lot”? You mean PS4 owners? “Your kind”, you mean gamers? You are giving the responses fanboys do.

          • Jecht_Sin

What, you own a PS4, now? All you do in your posting history is bitching at Sony and the PlayStation.

        • Jecht_Sin

It depends on where the developers decide to put the resources. If they want more realistic graphics, with better AA, the crowd not looking like a cardboard and so on, the trade off is to reduce the frame rate.

          • Russell Gorall

All the more reason it could run at 60fps. They were quoted as “targeting” 60fps a year and a half ago, if the game was delayed a year what happening to that target?

I don’t know, it seems silly to delay it for a year then not even bother with the simplest of things.

          • Jecht_Sin

They decided to invest the extra time on developing more tracks and cars. Sue them for giving more value for our money than a stupid 15 tracks game.

    • chrisredfield31

Forza 5 looks like trash. Driveclub on the other hand looks absolutely stunning. Yes it’s 30FPS but you can SEE WHY.

      • gamer04

i’m sure you haven’t actually played forza5, it looks and plays amazing. That said i’m definitely trying drive club PS+ but have my reservations , if only for all the delays.

        • chrisredfield31

I never said anything about how Forza played. Only how it looked, and it looks like trash. Aliasing all over the place, cardboard cutouts, take your pick. And that’s only a part of the myriad of other problems wrong with the game.

Driveclub however looks jawdropping. It looks like how a next-gen racer should look. It’s true that it doesn’t have 60fps however it’s not a Sim racer, so as long as I know that the graphics made up for the framerate, I’m A-OK on it.

          • Jeremy Sutherland

And what gamer04 is saying applies to the fact you haven’t played the game so you don’t really know if it looks like trash. Things look different on a youtube video vs playing the actual game. Saying it looks like trash is silly because it is one of the best looking next gen games out at this time. It’s a gorgeous and impressive game. I think if Driveclub pulls off how it looks in the videos, it will raise the level a bit but that doesn’t mean Forza looks like trash. Moving along…

          • chrisredfield31

You’re only assuming I haven’t played or seen it in person. Assuming makes you look like an idiot.

          • gamer04

Exactly, agreed with Jeremy here, playing something from its source in motion is quite different than a hand picked visual still image or heavily compressed web video. AND it was a launch title, pretty impressive.

          • chrisredfield31

lol idiots agreeing with each other. Only idiots gather up and agree with each other because you can’t stand by yourself. Good luck with your cardboard cutouts.

          • jtsuth

Oh man, you totally got me… I would rather look like an idiot than actually be an idiot like yourself. Want to know how I KNOW you are an idiot? Only an idiot contradicts themselves. You ended your comment saying:

I would trust that over you looking at your uncalibrated, low PQ TV.

So, you made an assumption that my tv is uncalibrated and has low picture quality after saying that assuming makes me look like an idiot. Guess what? Your assumption is wrong. I have a 60 inch Samsung Plasma TV that I bought less than a year ago brand new. The TV is calibrated too. Forza looks great. Far from trash. Do us normal people a favor and shove a grenade up your ass after pulling the pin, mkay?

          • chrisredfield31

LMAO! Okay Xbot. Whatever you can do to cope with yourself. Good luck with that crap TV, microtransaction riddled “racing” game and what you call “console”.

          • jtsuth

You’re awesome dude. I wish I could be your friend. I have both consoles you pathetic moron and all I did was call you out on your own stupidity which you obviously didn’t like so you had to call me an Xbot which is a word morons use. You also called my $2000 TV crap which must mean you really are a worthless piece of garbage. Also, I don’t take sides on Sony or Microsoft, I just take stupid people and point out their lack of intelligence. Usually it takes a little effort to do but you have made this easy for me so I want to say thanks. Ignorance is bliss so you must be extremely happy.

          • Raven Nafariea

You game on a Plasma TV? No burn in problems there?

          • jtsuth

The burn in problems on Plasma were resolved awhile back and aren”t such an issue anymore. There’s also a feature that you can run on the tv that gets rid of any potential burn in that could have occurred by running a grayscale bar across your screen from right to left. :)

          • Raven Nafariea

I know. I have the same thing in my Plasma as well but there is still burn in over time on it so I just use it to watch movies basically so that is why I was asking.

          • jtsuth

Ah. How old is your plasma? The Plasma’s manufactured in the last 2 years or so have pretty much fixed the burn in issue. I have seen the ghosting that you refer to but running that option clears it up completely on mine.

          • Raven Nafariea

It is more of problem when playing any games with a static hud. The hud burns in and it can be a problem.Even if I run the grayscale bar or run solid color slides for hours it can still be there. I bought mine about two years ago so might be why.

          • jtsuth

Sorry to hear that. I can imagine how frustrating that would be.

    • bigevilworldwide

LOL you Xbots and your need to bring up the game that was heavily downgraded to get it running on Xbox one LMAO…You should all probably stop bringing it up

  • otherZinc

At this time, Drive Club has terrible written all over it.

    How about releasing a demo.
    Or
    Simply showing a full race.

    • starscream1180

youll be able to get a free version with ps+ … i hope its good but yea i have a feeling its going to tank.

    • Harerazer

They are releasing a demo…it’s called “The Playstation Plus Version”.
