Capcom to Develop More Online Titles like PS4’s Deep Down, Lists Six “Powerful Series” Key to Growth

by on May 9, 2014 5:44 AM 22

Capcom released a document detailing its upcoming financial and development strategies, and in the slides there are quite a few pieces of information on what the publishers plan to do during the current fiscal year and beyond.

Interesting are their plans for the console business, that include reinforcing the DLC strategy (is anyone really surprised here?), enhancing quality and accumulate know-how by developing more titles internally and realigning the lineup of titles.

Strengthening the online games business is also mentioned, and in particular the development of more PC games outside Japan and more online-only games like Deep Down on PS4 (that received two new lovely screenshots just today) is planned. Unsurprisingly, the mobile market is also an area of interest with several titles listed, including to belonging to the Monster Hunter franchise.

Finally, six “powerful” series that Capcom plans to focus on are listed: Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising and Lost Planet. These franchises are identified as the key to the publisher’s growth.

Below you can read the relevant slidesfor more detailed information. Hopefully they won’t nickel and dime us too much…but who am I kidding? Of course they will.

lol yet we still do not see much monster hunter in the west, and where is Onimusha

Ugh DLC reinforcement? Does that mean more beefed up versions of new games like multiple versions of Street Fighter and on disc DLC. Nice to see them making changes /s

Why Lost Planet ? 2nd and 3rd part didnt sell so well, and they was average at best. Better leave this series and make something new!

Out of all the strong franchises under capcom’s belt (Rockman, Onimusha, DarkStalkers), they have to include lost planet and dead rising? Hmm…………….

      Exactly what i thought.
Just freaking Bring a megaman and an onimusha game to Consoles and see the profits rise to the roof.

      • Rasheed Jackson

IF they are any good, that is.

    • Johnnie

Can’t believe Nintendo hasn’t come in already to make some exclusive deals with Capcom for games other than MH. Capcom does extremely well with Nintendo’s guidance and Nintendo’s needs Capcom’s franchises now more than ever… Seems like a no-brainer; Nintendo will take most of the financial risk, which they obviously can with the money they’re sitting on and Capcom will have the funds to give some of their older IPs another live.

Dead Rising will live on (yep bad pun intended) because DR4 is exceeding expectations in terms of sales.

I don’t understand why they keep shooting themselves in the foot. Especially making their heavy hitter title like MH stay exclusive to one platform. What a m***n..

After the last few Lost Planet games underwhelmed sales wise and critically, they STILL want to pump more money into the franchise?

  • NoNeedToArgue

a new onimusha would allow them to print money…but noooo, DLC

I hope they learned their lesson from Resident Evil 6. There isn’t anything in there that said anything about saying don’t try to force change on to expand that audience that alienates their fanbase.

As for the DLC, Capcom has been the worst example of how to do DLC. They could learn better from EVERY other developer.

lost planet will be better then titan fall game at lest we will have more players then 6 players in the game

Shinji Mikami isn’t at Capcom anymore so why do they bother trying to revamp the series when it will never reach it’s prime ever again?

  • stevenm281

No focus on Breath of Fire? Here I thought PS4 would have been a great console to bring back the series to fruitition.
