A Trailer of the Next Mass Effect Is Ready, Might be at E3; Won’t be Xbox One Exclusive – Rumor

by on May 30, 2014 3:24 PM 107

BioWare managed to keep the next Mass Effect pretty much under wraps, even if industry insider Shinobi602 did give us a few hints about it, including the working title “Contact,” which apparently isn’t final.

Today he mentioned on Twitter that the game might actually make an appearance at E3, because a trailer has been ready for a little while already.

Due to rumors about Microsoft having secured a big third party exclusive that will be shown at E3, some argued that it could indeed be the next Mass Effect. Shinobi had a self-explanatory reaction to that:

People are thinking ME: Contact’s exclusive to Xbox One? lol

Indeed, it wouldn’t make much sense for Electronic Arts move the franchise away from exclusivity only to do a full 180 degrees turn and make it platform exclusive again.

What’s most important, though, is that there’s still hope to see the upcoming Mass Effect game at E3, or at least some time soon. Trailers are made to be shown, and we have at least three prominent gaming events in the next three months.

It’d be more likely than other names thrown around (like RE and even Dragon’s dogma) but still unlikely

    I still think it’s DmC2. the 3rd party exclusive i mean

    • Forest Law

I doubt it will be DmC2. The franchise began on the PS2 and we even had Dante from the DmC reboot as a playable character in PlayStation All-Stars, that would be like stabbing Sony in the back, same with Resident Evil. I don’t know what it is, but it certainly does have my curiosity.

      • Dr. Manhattan

Capcom + Money = Awful decision making

        • Forest Law

lol why are you upvoting your own comments Dr. Manhattan? :P

    • Dr. Manhattan

To be honest if it is DMC I could care less if it went XBO exclusive, have it.

  • Somber

    OMG OMG OMG *Heavy-breathing*

  • Vious

about the full 180 about make a multi-plat exclusive again: think dead rising…. so ME going exclusive isn’t a far fetched thing

    • Giuseppe Nelva

      Yeah, but that’s Capcom

      • Dan

The truth is MS should have bought Bioware. That was a big mistake on their part.

        • Vious

but did bioware own any IPs?

          • Dan

            Mass Effect
            Dragon age
            Neverwinter Nights

      • Dr. Manhattan

EXACTLY.. EA has enough bad news bear reputation the last thing they would do is this awful decision.

      • Vious

you do have a point, but it’s still a precedence.
anyway, i’m not saying it’s exclusive, i’m just saying it’s really not out the question though

    • Forest Law

I doubt EA will be that stupid, they should have already realised that the PlayStation is a massive platform which could earn them millions. Also, wasn’t it confirmed that both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 saves from the previous games would carry over to the next game? I would think that pretty much confirms it not being the next Mass Effect, although I don’t even know.

      • mikefichera

Obviously you don’t do it for free, that would be stupid.

        • Forest Law

Na, you think? Of course that goes without saying. Baka.

    • Fatman

I doubt that. I mean they released the ME trilogy on a Sony platform so its would be stupid for EA to gather millions of new ME fans, invite us to the Shepard party and slam the door with a sign “Xbox only” to our faces.

  • tunde

it doesnt make sense for it to be exclusive to one platform if the last game was on all platforms, unless they pull a dead rising 3, and im pretty sure EA wont want to miss out on the ps4 again

    • Fatman

“unless they pull a dead rising 3″ I believe the term that you are looking for is “pulling a Capcom”

      • DIGITALxALCHEMIST

You guys do know Capcom are making Deep down which will be a PS4 exclusive..Rite now its only slated to release in Japan but i”m sure will make its way globally at some point.

        • Fatman

Yep, but that’s a different story. As a gamer, I feel betrayed when Dead Rising 3 became an Xbox exclusive.I dont mind exclusive games, heck, I dont mind when exclusives become multiplatform but I hate exclusive games that becomes multiplatform but later its back to being exclusives.

    • Jeff Maxwell

forget PS4 theres ALOT more PC gamers that would buy this… it stretches back along time and weve bin waiting ages for the next one

  • Dr. Manhattan

Would be a putrid decision to move ME to XBO and we know it wouldn’t happen after the leaps they took getting it multi-platform. Besides, I’d go nuts if I couldn’t play the new ME, may favorite gaming series and RPG ever.

    • ps4lol

      Calm down.

    • https://www.youtube.com/ButtonBros TheRedButterfly

“after the leaps they took getting it multi-platform”

If by “leaps” you man EA buying BioWare, then yeah, “leaps”…

    • someguy

It would be financially incompetent as well if they left it as a XB exclusive. Ps4 is the bang for your buck at this point

  • Rower

The Mass effect team seems to be working too hard for it to be an exclusive for xbox. So my money is on multiplatform.

  • Forest Law

Do we know if the next Mass Effect will be a prequel or a sequel yet? I’ve not been following it but I really hate playing prequels, knowing exactly what happens and who will survive kind of makes me not care as much.

    • Ih4t3th3w0rld

Another timeline maybe ?, same universe but with no Reaper around it ?

      • Forest Law

        That sounds good to me!

  • Liam Hall

I remember when the first Mass Effect was exclusive, but then EA bought Bioware and blah, blah, blah. But yeah, no surprise really.

  • Delsin Rowe

i love me some new mass effect. bring it on :D

  • alchemistx24x7

Rumor: “Next Mass effect wont be XBOX exclusive”….LoL why would that be part of the header for the next ME? At least fanboys on the other side of the ailse can feel a little at ease that ME wont be a XBoX exclusive.LoL

    • They Call Me Senpai

It’s part of the headline because it’s relevant. Did you even bother to read the article or are you just here to troll.

      • alchemistx24x7

“Rumors” also have it that Fallout4, Shenmue3 and Resident evil 7 are XBoX exclusives cant wait to see the relevant headers on those..LoL

        • BLOB

          LOL.

        • GodGamerDerp

Misterxmedia doesn’t count as a “rumor”, that blog is pure garbage.

  • PhantomVash808

My reaction if Mass Effect is shown at E3

  • Jeff Maxwell

If the next Mass Effect is Xbox exclusive im going to blow up Redmond HQ!!! but I highly highly doubt it as theyd lose out on an insane amount of sales im pretty sure 30+million PC gamers would get this

  • oSHINSAo

Xbox owner here… Mass Effect is a Great Badass game… everyone enjoy… :)

  • Synthetic Construct

Better not be exclusive, I can’t afford two consoles like these Hollywooders…

  • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

I would bet EA regrets giving Microsoft rights to help publish Titanfall. I am sure they were thinking that Microsoft was going to have the momentum after the 360 to have the larger installed base. They sure as hell wouldn’t make the next Mass Effect title exclusive.

    • superkarma

Yup — I’m sure a lot of publishers/developers are regretting their early decisions for hopping over to the Microsoft side. They expected the same dominance 360 had for its first few years…but they were sadly mistaken.

Now they’re hoping things change for the better once the Kinect-less bundle hits the market. Even still, I expect many of the 3rd parties that are currently X1 exclusives to make the multiplat switch for their sequels. It’s only business…and business goes where the money is. It’s either that or Microsoft better get ready to pay even more money to keep them + for loss of sales.

  • Dangerousjo 1985

Lol can we say duhh!! For 500 Bob lol

  • Temjin001

it can be exclusive to consoles but as long as I can have it PC as an option I’ll be happy.

  • SkinnyAssGamer

if EA shows this as an exclusive for Xbox One it would be a dumb move because PlayStation 4 is selling out right now like over 8 million units. God knows what the Install base is going to be when Mass Effect Contact comes out. Its best to make it Multi plat or Exclusive to PlayStation 4. For Max Profit.

    • Jeff Maxwell

how short sighted are you? ALOT more PC gamers will buy this than x1 + ps4 combined so if they made it exclusive to PS4 there losing ALOT of sales. Its EA they’ve learned there lesson from Titanfall and wont do it again cus there all about the money.

      • Jecht_Sin

You say what? PC SW sales outselling the consoles SW sales, even combined? You really live in a fantasy world. Link or it never happened. Diablo 3 apart, sure.

        • Jeff Maxwell

considering infamous was a kill game that sold what maybe 2 mill?, titanfall was supposed to be killer sold about 1 million? so lets say 3 million console sales versus 10% of 75million+ PC sales = 7.5million+ sales its not hard

          • Jecht_Sin

No mate, we are talking about each single game, taken one by one. Titanfall on PC sold crap compared to the Xbone. As well as the X360 version alone of any ME game outsold, and by far, the PC version. There are no chances in the world ME4 on PC will outsell any console version, let alone the console versions combined. Not even if that will include a fundamental online. Because if it is playable SP only forget about it. TPB docet.

          • Jeff Maxwell

why is single player bad? most games coming to PS4 are single player yet you rave about it but now its bad?

          • Jecht_Sin

Because no online = no DRM = High number of seeders and leechers. You should know it quite well since yourself admit you practice it to “demo” the games (yeah, right. :p).

          • Jeff Maxwell

to be honest there are people much more clever than these idiots who try to create encryption. Look at the watchdogs thing (was out 5 days before release), Sim City (major login issues), etc the only people that these companies stop playing there games is the people who have bought it. When will they learn that it wont stop anything stop spending millions $$ on it and make the games cheaper

          • Jecht_Sin

True. But that’s outside the topic. The point is that games where online plays a major role obviously get less pirated. Look at Diablo 3. Or Titanfall. No network, no play. Thus no pirated copies (well, there are few but they are useless).

          • Jeff Maxwell

yeah there is that but a game like Mass Effect you buy it for the single player and any multiplayer is tacked on. I think the mass effects are amazing, games like Battlefield the single player is more added for the single player guys but the multiplayer is where its at etc. Even if Titanfall had a single player the multiplayer is what you want out of it. Like The Order 1886 that’s a game where you have it for the single player not the multiplayer, Driveclub as a racer its good for both, learn the tracks get fast then go online to try destroy the opposition etc

          • Jecht_Sin

Which is why ME games are sold less on PC. Even the two Dark Souls have an high piracy rate, and in D* Souls games you want the multiplayer. Without it they aren’t really the same. Even if it is just for the ghostly figures or the messages. Apart that I love the co-op in them.

Still according to Vgchartz (I know, I know. Totally unreliable on SW sales. But it’s better than a guess) ME games are not as popular as they seem. In any platform. The Elder Scrolls or Fallout beat them hands down.

PS: Why Skyrim, a pure SP game instead sold so much on PC is out of my comprehension. Maybe it’s the exception confirming the rule.

          • Jeff Maxwell

maybe Mass Effect is more of a niche market then its just those that do like it talk about it which seems a lot. I looked at some Dark Souls 2 gameplay on BrokengamesHD on youtube and it looks boring.

I “acquired” Fallout 3 maybe and Borderlands 2 or 3, only played about 2 hours at most gave it a good go but got really bored of it.
Skyrim prolly sold so much cus its a Elder Scrolls thing, they usually sell a lot plus you can get an infinite amount of playtime think Raven Nefaria told me she spent about 1500 hours in skyrim and 2000+ on some creation kit whatever that is or she meant creating weapons and stuff I dunno. A mate a work put in nearly 1000 hours in it to so you get ALOT of value for money… whilst me on the other hand I think I put in maybe 20 or so hours maybe more cus I did go wandering around on the horse I stole *cough* pirated *cough* “acquired” :P for ages wandering around the paths, maybe more like 40 hours.

Whereas Sim City I prolly put in like 50-60 hours in that cus its so addictive and the time flies. Guess I have a more niche selection of gaming interested

          • Jecht_Sin

Yeah, but Skyrim is SP only. Unless the constant need for patches makes piracy less attractive. Not that it should be a great deal to download the patches from other sources. Still it’s much extra work.

Then yes. I think Skyrim has been the most played SP game on PC. It was the only one always on the top the few times I checked in Steam.

Yup, still today it’s at #9, just few hundred players less than Watch Dogs.

            http://store.steampowered.com/stats/?snr=1_steam_4__110

          • Orichalon Hades

its more about the mods for Skyrims, games with mods tends to sell a WHOLE lot better on PC ( i wonder why)

i mean look at Fallout and TES series and compare it too, say, Dark Soul or Dragon Age/ME. You can see the difference in sales between those two games.

and no, the constant patches doesn’t really makes piracy less attractive for those type of title it even makes those titles to be more desirable to be pirated

          • Jeff Maxwell

yeah it is single player but I think there is that much to do in it you can spend 100′s of hours in it easily. I don’t really know what ya do in those types of games cus I hate crafting with a passion, it really is a massive world, it puts GTA5′s map to shame if ya think that’s big. I think GTA5′s map is about 1/4 of the size of skyrims but theres a lot more to do in skyrim to, so you can spend as little or as much time as you want in it I think.

In reply to the guy below theres a lot of mods where it makes skyrim look almost real. These aren’t possible in a normal game cus youd need quad titan Z’s to run it cus the detail level is extreme. think you start off with Sweet FX then add stuff to it

this is one picture of 1 of the mods for a woman it beats gfx in ny game out

            http://stickskills.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/SkyrimUnreal12.png

          • Orichalon Hades

lol i know, i was just being sarcastic

          • Jeff Maxwell

I was still talking to Jecht but saying this is what mods can make skyrim looks like. Ive seen environment where the guy had 2x 660 Ti’s in SLI running at 5fps lol but its ok for a screenshot :D

          • Orichalon Hades

hah, yea. I remember the time when i was kinda addicted to SS Skyrim with full mods too. It went exactly like that.

“ooh look at my screenies! it looks really nice, the game only run at 1 fps but that 1 frame looks great!”

          • Jeff Maxwell

lol I loked at modding skyrim Cpl months ago but all the mods I thought to myself 1 I needed faster internet and 2 there was loads of them I just couldn’t be bothered but they look soo real

          • Jecht_Sin

Skyrim map is obviously larger. I think 3 or 4 times bigger indeed. But that also includes many unreachable areas like mountains, or plenty of places where there are just trees and some ruins. I am quite sure the total urban map of GTAV is much bigger than Skyrim’s. Not to mention more detailed. Still they are different games. They don’t compare from that point of view.

Regarding mods.. yeah, sure. They are cool. But once I am done with a game they wouldn’t be enough of a reason for me to pick it up again. Unless it is a great game, which Skyrim isn’t. I prefer Oblivion much more. And after playing D* Souls game I can’t go back to that super lame combat system which is also in 1st person view.

          • Jeff Maxwell

yeah the urban map is bigger but it is medieval times where things are sparsely laid out haha. Most games I play im the same as you once ive finished it that’s it its done and dusted

          • Jecht_Sin

Medieval times in your muddy Country of the time, maybe. Rome counted more than 1 million people 2000 years ago! :p

          • Jeff Maxwell

hahah yeah but that’s rome, one of the greatest empires that ever existed… only second to the british empire of course!!!! this little muddy country ruled half the world not bad eh!! :P

          • Jecht_Sin

You just be grateful for what the Romans did for you. Because remember.. Italy has never been an English colony. England on the other hand.. :D

          • Jeff Maxwell

yeah they built us lots of straight roads!! think getting invaded all the time made us hard as fook and prepared us to go invading the rest of the world hahah we were like… ugh sick of this $hit lets see how the rest of the world likes it! least us English didn’t hop into bed with the Nazis!!

      • GodGamerDerp

The most successful PC games are F2P/MMOs that are always online. League of Legends, World of Warcraft, etc.

Single player AAA games like Mass Effect make up a tiny portion of PC sales. Console sales sustain the AAA industry.

        • Jeff Maxwell

Yeah MMO’s are a staple part of the PC gaming diet. You can spend 100,s 1000,s of hours in them cus even though its the same content over and over like raiding its more the people your doing it with hooking you in and dragging you back there is a lot more replayability than any single player game has to offer well unless your Raven whose completed Infamous 15 times, wouldn’t surprise me if shes on a 16th run. She’s a proper gamer not like us who come in here to moan about stuff. Have you seen her gaming cave? its mental.

If you look at it like that yeah. I just cant wait for Star Citizen, you prolly don’t look at any of it but the 2 ships in the final of The Next Great starship are mental. I showed my mate and even he raised an eyebrow thinking WOW, the LOD will be unmatched at least for a MMO, I just hope NVidia and AMD get there new stuff out before it releases properly… im happy to chug along now with me 280x but I want enough power to make sure im running rock solid 60fps even in a 40 man dogfight or having massive ground combat or fighting to take over a space station

        • SkinnyAssGamer

i hope Blizzard and Sony make a deal or something like that and port World OF Warcraft to consoles.

          • Jeff Maxwell

you really don’t want WoW, full of kids and idiots also its not like it used to be its gone a big rubbish apparently, I left after cataclysm cus it was just rubbish… but if ya like fighting Pandas go for it

          • SkinnyAssGamer

            ok nevermind.

          • Orichalon Hades

i can’t see how that will work, but eh…

(also yea, WoW has really gone downhill from the “BUY OUR LVL 90 BOOST GUISE” campaign. MoP is practically unplayable with all of those insta-90 morons running around)

          • Jeff Maxwell

you can buy lvl 90? for how much

          • Orichalon Hades

            50-60$ iirc

          • Jeff Maxwell

bet that’s what ever raid leader wants… a bunch of lvl 90′s that don’t know how to play there character cus they havnt levelled with it!

          • Orichalon Hades

oh believe me, guilds disband faster from these insta-90 than from DKP Loot Drama.

          • Jeff Maxwell

DKP lol Dragon Kill Points…. but I can only raid 1 time every 2 weeks whilst the guy with no life gets everything lol

          • SkinnyAssGamer

damn that bad huh? yeah i will stick with Sony Online Entertainment MMOs over that.

          • Orichalon Hades

            speaking of SOE

im totally on board the hype train for EQNEXT

          • Jeff Maxwell

like star wars lol gimme a break. I tried FF14 whilst it was pretty its exactly like every other MMO out there

      • SkinnyAssGamer

how about you read next time. PC had nothing to do with my comment. i was clearly talking consoles in that post not no where did i mention PC? :)

    • doplerradar

They won’t the only way they will make maximum profit is that they released it to all platforms.

      • SkinnyAssGamer

hmmm. is that why i said its best to make it multiplatform? hmmm…use your reading eyes next time. They would also make money off the PS4 Version do to the PS4 having a larger install base.

  • doom guy

With Titanfall [another EA game] being exclusive to Xbox One. I guess there is some remote chance it could be a Xbox One exclusive. Plus EA have been pro-MS this time around.

    • Jeff Maxwell

that was only cus EA thought the X1 was going to be more powerful and win the generation but its gone the other way. EA is all about money so they wont be making the same mistake again

      • Jecht_Sin

So you’re saying that one of the biggest games publishers didn’t have access in advance to the early prototypes of the two consoles. I wondered how they developed BF4, FIFA 14 and NFS Rivals then.

        • Jeff Maxwell

EA did the exclusivity without Respawn knowing about it so they prolly just saw $$$ and went for it

          • Jecht_Sin

You wrote that EA thought the Xbone was going to be more powerful. I highly doubt that. To develop not 1, but 3 launch games EA developers had put their hands on the consoles prototypes well in advance. They knew the specs quite well. They just didn’t disclose anything because of the obvious and strict NDAs.

EA took a stupid bet because like MS they didn’t imagine the resolution-gate would have backfired so badly on console. As well as EA couldn’t predict MS was willing to have the worst pre-launch of a product in history, with infinite backpedals and U-turns also bad-mouthing its loyal customers.

          • Jeff Maxwell

hmm maybe but even still youd of thought EA would of wanted to spread its reach a bit further

          • Jecht_Sin

We don’t know how much MS paid for its “agreements” with EA. MS claimed they had 1 billion dollars for games. Guess where I think good part of that money ended up?

          • Jeff Maxwell

I think they paid about $200million I think for titanfall

          • Jecht_Sin

Are you serious?? That’s way above what I imagined.

          • Jeff Maxwell

I dunno, tbh think I heard that somewhere, does seem a bit pricey though doesn’t it

          • Jecht_Sin

Well, it is said that MS paid R* $75 million just to have the GTA IV timed exclusive DLCs:

            http://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-paid-75-million-to-stop-gtaiv-ps3-exclusivity/1100-6262370/

But that was GTA. Still I don’t believe EA would settle for less to go all exclusive.

          • Jeff Maxwell

yeah but that is GTA though a game that sells an insane amount of copies so got pay to get that exclusive stuff but with an untested IP like titanfall its prolly cheaper to get it

          • Jeff Maxwell

Oh hey Jecht_sin ive read something veeeeery interesting about watch dogs on PC you know all the stuttering? well that’s down to the Ultra textures setting that’s a different setting to everything else atm ive got LOD, shadows, water, HBAO+, reflections all set to Max settings i.e. Ultra/highest they’ll go… max GPU buffered frames to 1 (lowest) Temporal SMAA and Textures at high. Reading a site when you turn Textures to Ultra alongside max MSAA etc they reckon even 6GB VRAM isn’t enough for it and theres only 1 single GPU gfx card out atm with more than that and its sapphire 8GB 290x

Atm my game isn’t dropping below 30fps but its in the day, I think itll get hit a lot harder at night time so ill have to check that out later (just checked it drops to 25ish but it still completely smooth). Also the 6/8GB RAM needed for the game is bull$hit as it only takes up 2-2.5GB in the processes and no where near maxes my i7 950 so I don’t WTH them idiots were playing at. also seems to pound 1 thread/core hard whereas the rest don’t have much utilisation at all. At those settings its using 2.5ishGB VRAM… and no stuttering whatsoever did a Fixer contract in a extremely fast car 0 stutter. got be a problem with the ultra texture setting

          • Jecht_Sin

I told you my opinion about Ubisoft developers already. :p

Oh, according to Digital Foundry on PS3 WD has a constant line of tearing. Why am I not surprised.. R* must be from a different planet. Even the old RDR looks better than that.

          • Jecht_Sin

It’s always like that. RAM (well, video RAM in this case) and disc space are never enough in IT. As soon as the technology allows to double the amount of available storage it gets used in few months, Which is why I like consoles. The developers can’t go “creative” (read: lazy) with the RAM available, they are forced to make their best out of the restricted resources available.

I don’t like the paradigm “if you can’t run the game buy a better HW!”. Watch Dogs is proving how that is not the correct approach. It can’t run fine at the max settings period. Or should people wait for new graphics card with 16GB of video RAM?!

I think there all praying for the day quantum computers are in our homes then they havnt got to bother optimising it all haha I think maybe 6GB is prolly a bit over zealous but youll definitely need 4GB gfx card with ultra textures + 8x MSAA. I think they had to spend a lot of time on the consoles especially the 360 + ps3 just to get it running in a high enough detail, then did a bit on the PC side and say hey lets up the spec requirement its ok PC elitists loooove upgrading there computers hahah

I like watchdogs quite a lot actually, all them fixer contracts distracting me from my main quest hahah all something to do. Im going see if I can change the difficulty level on watchdogs cus hard is to easy.. it was a bit hard at first but im finding it so easy now I need to up it to realistic see what that’s like but not sure if ya can. Im in the prison atm not sure what keeps getting me when I goto try get the authorization order… oh BTW you know the focus skill that slows time and makes it easy? Focus is for wimps only used it once try it havnt used it again :d
