Ninja Theory’s Next-Gen Consoles Unreal Engine 4 Tech Demo “The Beggar’s Opera” Leaked

Part of an Unreal Engine 4 tech demo for next generation consoles named “The Beggar’s Opera” appeared a while ago on the Ninja Theory official website, included in a demo reel, but today we can finally see it in its entirety. It was included in an artist portfolio found by Twitter user Superannuation.

Unfortunately the original page was hurriedly taken down, but it’s still partly visible thanks to google cache: we learn it’s an R&D project (basically a tech demo) for next generation consoles made using Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush, UV Layout and an early version of Unreal Engine 4.

Our reader FrankieMazz also saved the video before it was removed, and you can check it out below.

It’s worth mentioning that while this is just a tech demo, Ninja Theory has been hiring for an AAA Unreal Engine 4 game, so this can be considered a sneak peek of what they can do with the engine.

Uh , Is it just me , Or is there no audio ?

    • Giuseppe Nelva

It’s not just you. There’s no audio, which is ok, as it’s not about audio 😀

      • Negi Springfield

Ah sorry , I thought it was just me.

        But it looks great though.

    • Jecht_Sin

It does feel weird without audio, doesn’t it? Still it looks amazing.

Ah yes, that blue haired girl. I remember her from NT’s reel. It’s been a while. Curious to see how far they’ll be going this gen.

Ninja Theory working on a PS4 exclusive – possible Heavenly Sword sequel which was shelved a number of years ago. Quite far into development.

^^^ this is from the ‘leaked Sony E3 press conference’ make of it as you wish

Then, like Heavenly Sword, I would hope that it would be a stunning proprietary game engine (seriously take a look at Heavenly Sword today and see how incredible it still looks). The fact it is on Unreal suggests it would be anything but Exclusive.

      Heavenly sword is my shit!

  • Porcu Peth

DmC was my favorite game of 2013

    there, I said it.

    • theodor70941

#GTFO, you probably haven’t played the old Devil May Cry games.

      • Porcu Peth

        yes I did. you gtfo.

        • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

          which ones are better then?

          • Porcu Peth

DmC, dmc1 and dmc3. But DmC is the best.

          • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

            duly noted

        • theodor70941

Then you’re not a true DmC fan since you prefer a dull and boring main character over a awesome and badass main character.

          • Porcu Peth

I’m a true gamer, not true fan of this or that. Old Dante was too weeaboo. New one is better. And kat is better than the previous females too

    • cusman

I liked DmC over the older Devil May Cry games. I tend to like NInja Theory games including Heavenly Sword and especially Enslaved Odyssey to the West

  • Nicholas Perry

Looks great as usual for NT. Now, if they do make some larger scale games this gen with UE4… I REALLY hope they stop using shiity FMVs offline rendered with the engine that look terrible.

I’d rather have some minor loading times than deal with that crap for another 7 years.

  • Get_crazy

I remember having a glimpse of this from that video NT posted last year (at 00:47)

  • Kanok Timkhlai

    No sound?

  • Mozef Kaddas

      • Mozef Kaddas

can I cry please from the happiness?

        • Rudra Bharat

          By all means join in

  • cusman

    No sound in the video?

  • Martin Elisha

  • Martin Elisha

  • Martin Elisha
