Mortal Kombat X Gets Awesome Key Art and Box Art for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC

If you liked Mortal Kombat X‘s announcement trailer, Warner Bros. sent another treat, in the form of the key art and box artwork of the game for all platforms (PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC).

Of course the protagonist of the artwork is one of the most beloved (and by some hated) combatants of the series, Scorpion.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment President Martin Tremblay accompanied the press release with a comment:

Mortal Kombat is our acclaimed, world-renowned franchise and we are now advancing the fighting genre with Mortal Kombat X: NetherRealm Studios is best in class at delivering games fans love and they are taking their iconic brand to the next level with Mortal Kombat X.

Creative Director Ed Boon also left his own personal message:

Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilize the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet. The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine.

You can check the lovely artwork out in the gallery just below. The game will launch on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC next year.

          I’d agree if this was an open world game or something. Fighting games and sports games are a few genres that aren’t going to be affected by cross gen from a gameplay standpoint. Fighting games seriously haven’t changed much. I mean look at Tekken. Other than looking prettier and being able to sustain a bigger roster it has changed it core gameplay since 3.

          Gotta agree to disagree on this one.

            dunno bout rest, but sports games are held back gameplay wise as well as gfx wise cuz of big green monsters like ea, who will happily release a gimped product if they feel the generral public wont figure it out

            That’s a issue with the publisher though. Sports games have always been money pits and considering people still buy them by the truckload every year, what incentive does EA have to stop doing what they are doing.

            I told this to irate customers all the time when I worked at Gamestop, if you don’t like what EA is doing then simply stop buying them. It’s such an easy concept but most people are just children wearing adults clothing with high expectations and zero patience.

          Aren’t “definitive editions” upgrades from last gen to current gen? Why would they upgrade a game that is cross gen, when it already exists on current gen, makes no sense. I can see a “Komplete” edition with all DLC and whatnot.. but it’s not going to look any better then the original release.

            Yeah kind of… Injustice and Injustice Ultimate Edition was on PS3 before it even was cross gen. Now it is on both and I doubt it would come out again on PS4 as a “definitive edition” which is pretty much what Porcu was saying with MK.

    And yet again the lime green ruins the boxart of another game on Xbox. Would hate to have a game collection on my shelves that gave off this green glow that ruins about 95% of all the game covers of my games. Sonic Generations is the only game that comes to mind that suits the green box.

          There are games on the Wii U like Sonic Lost World and Bayonetta 2 the Wii U has hardly sold anything and those devs seem not to mind. limiting themselves to one console

          EVERYTHING is wrong with cross gen.

          The 360 is dam near almost 10 years old TEN!!! It’s not just about the power, the architecture itself is ancient. When you develop a game you have to code/develop to the lowest common dominator (to save money and time)which would be the PS3 AND 360

          This is why Next Gen Only titles such as Ryse, Infamous SS, EA’s UFC , DriveClub and Deep Down look so dam good because their superior ARCHITECTURE, as well as their increased power is taken fully advantage of. MK X will even come close to looking like one of these titles

          It’s a dam shame a major title such as MK that’s coming in 2015 is cross gen. I can take cross gen the first year in but not two years in especially on a title like MK which isn’t released yearly like COD or Fifa. The graphics won’t be that much of an improvement and will probably just look like MK9 up-scaled to 1080p

    Scorpion is THE face of Mortal Kombat. Hate the character but it makes sense that he’d be on the box. If you got rid of “Mortal Kombat X” from the cover and put Bo Rai Cho on the art, I wouldn’t know what the game is.

      I wouldn’t hold my breath. They’ll just make up some excuse that it won’t sell. My problem with that is most of these companies gimp the Wii U versions of features and still expect people to pay the same price as everybody else which is utter garbage or because they are either crap compared to the PS3/360 versions like Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor Edge or Mass Effect 3.

      Doesn’t sound like the Wii U is the problem and more like people are just not buying into a version of a game that simply sucks or is available on a system they already own but better.

      That said I own a Wii U and that’s my take on it despite whether I enjoy the system or not.

    I’m sorry, but Scorpion looks ridiculous. What’s with excessive leather straps and buckles? This has been a problem with the franchise since the fourth game I’ll say – at a certain point some of the characters are overdesigned. Scorpion’s best look was from Deadly Alliance, and I think they should have kept that as his mainstay costume. This belt and buckle fiasco should be a bizarre alternate. Game looks fun though, if the trailer is anything to go by.

    I haven’t even played the last MK and it already has a definitive edition.

    So MK got a new game 3(4 by release time) years since the last game.

    I wish more companies should do this. Where’s my new KOF??? Tekken Tag 2 and Soul Calibur V BADLY needs an update or a new game.

    At lease Dead ot Alive 5 Ultimate is getting the support and i commend Team Ninja for that.

    Sorry Ed Boon….Sorry Ubi….After seeing games like The order 1886 , Ryse , Batman Arkham knight , Infamous Second son…. I can’t accept cross-gen , downgraded games anymore…

    I know that it makes sense for most publishers (buisness wise)…But not to me. You see , i have to have an incentive that will convince me to buy your game. I was expecting MK10 to look way better than Killer Instinct…But now that i know that it’s another cross-gen , i’m prepared to be disappointed…And now i know that the trailer was bullsh@t…

    Call me a spoiled brat idiot for all i care…Call me a graphics whore…The point remains.
    Yes , gameplay is what matters the most. But it’s no reason to ignore why we all bought new consoles in the first place. So count me out !….you’re not getting my money. I know i’m not gonna do a lot of difference , and that a lot of fans will still buy it no matter what , but i don’t care , i’m doing it out of principle.

    I’d rather starve , not play for a while…and just wait for naughty dog’s latest game or witcher 3 or the order 1886…

    I think it’s a good idea to do cross gen so that those who don’t have next gen can enjoy the game as well. It shows netherrealm hasn’t forgotten that they still have fans that only have last gen systems like the ps3 and xbox 360.
