Guerrilla Cambridge Working on “High Profile, Multi-Million Selling Franchise:” New Killzone Coming?

by on July 10, 2014 4:24 PM 135

We already know that Guerrilla Cambridge is working on a PS4 game, and today we get more information on the studio’s plans thanks to a career opportunity ad published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe seeking an Audio Programmer.

Guerrilla’s Cambridge Studio (UK) is looking for an experienced Audio programmer to work on forthcoming projects in a high profile, multi-million selling franchise.

The successful candidate should have at least 3 years experience in the industry and possess excellent working knowledge of game audio systems. Ideally they should be a gamer who is driven to make the best sounding games available on any platform.

The ad also requires prior experience in console audio development and mentions “Improving and implementing in-house tools, engine and gameplay audio features” within the candidate’s responsibilities.

While we can’t be absolutely sure that the “forthcoming projects” indicated by this post are one and the same with the PS4 game we learned about a while ago, it’s definitely possible, as Guerrilla Cambridge isn’t an enormous studio.

As what this “high profile, multi-million selling franchise” could be, the most obvious solution would be Killzone, especially after Guerrilla Cambridge did a very well received job on Killzone: Mercenary for PS Vita.

Considering that the main Guerrilla studio is currently working on a new IP, it would stand to reason to think that the Killzone franchise may have been (at least temporarily) moved to the other side of the English Channel. That said, whatever that franchise is, it’s going to be a big one.

Mind you, it could even be Medievil, considering that it’s one of SCE Cambrige Studio’s (Guerrilla Cambridge’s old name) most popular franchise. A man can dream, can’t he?

Of course we’ll have to wait for an official announcement from Sony to know more about this, but I can’t say it’s not intriguing.

    Another Killzone Vita game?

    • Delsin Rowe

no. i think they are working on a killzone for ps4. guerilla itself is working on their new ip.

    • Giuseppe Nelva

Could be one for Vita if Guerrilla Cambridge splits teams since they’re working on a PS4 game. Otherwise, it could be for PS4.

  • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

I had enough of the franchise. I really don’t want it to be Killzone but I can’t imagine what else it could be. Its not like they have ever made much else. Shadow Fall was great but I wish they would make something new. I know there likely making a open world RPG considering the constant rumors but Killzone is getting done too much. Make a new FPS if it has to be a FPS.

    • Super Maze

this is guerilla cambridge, not guerilla games, this studio has made the handheld games and the medievil series.

      • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

Well Medievil wasn’t a “multi” million dollar franchise so I wonder what is if it isn’t Killzone. I hardly call it high profile. I hope it is something other than Killzone. For the sake of something fresh, I would take Medievil over Killzone since we just had two Killzones. I think they were both good but I think the series has been abused just like Halo and Mario. Hope its one of those other handheld games or them working on one of Sony’s other IPs.

  • Carl

The article states that the candidate should work on existing technology and improve on it. This means that with relatively little effort, a new Killzone game could be developed with Guerrilla’s game engine. But I ‘d rather no more Killzone games, unless a studio can really improve on its structure and make it more interesting.

    • Nicholas

I think mercenaries had a cool idea where the money you make in the story can carry over to the online, id say put that with shadow fall more open levels (only done better) and I think it could be cool

  • True_Fan

LOL So much for those 12 new ips. ps4 fans keep saying halo and forza, but lets look at the facts this gen.
    kszf-sequel
    infamous ss-sequel
    mlb-annual game
    tlou-remastered after 7 months
    uncharted-sequel
    Bloodborne-sequel

    • Carl

Then Forza Horizon 2, new Fable, and Halo 5, and the inevitable Gears of War 5 what are exactly then?

      • True_Fan

Yea but mixed in with Titanfall, Ryse, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Max COB, Ori and the Blind Forest, Project Spark, Scalebound, Phantom Dust, and Crackdown.

        • Brian Murphy

Crackdowns a sequel also. Though you forgot to mention Sunset Overdrive.

          • True_Fan

Dang that’s even better, thank you for helping my point. I only counted crackdown becuase if you count bloodborne as new, I can count Crackdown.

          • Giuseppe Nelva

Uh no. Crackdown is a sequel/reboot. Bloodborne is a fully new IP. Did you drink some good stuff?

Oh by the way, you may be too young to remember, but Phantom Dust is a remake of an old IP for the original Xbox.

          • http://people.ign.com/oskitake Oskitake

More like he got a shot of some good stuff….the guy is having hallucinations.

          • Delsin Rowe

            he’s working for M$. lol

          • True_Fan

That’s fine don’t count it, still a long list of new ip.

          • They Call Me Senpai

Sony has a far longer list, though.

          • Delsin Rowe

if you would answer me on destiny article, i’m really appreciated.

          • Negi Springfield

He is a troll , You probably know what he`s been doing over there at N4G.

          • Brian Murphy

No, you can’t. Sorry, Crackdown shares the exact same name. Bloodborne, while made by the Dark/Demon souls developer, has no canon in common, and the combat system/environment is all different.

        • Carl

Half of those games right now are nothing more than CGI trailers. When they release a gameplay trailer, then let’s talk again.

          • True_Fan

It’s ok man cry some more, all those are expected before year end 2015, except crackdwon.

          • Carl

Well then, you are welcome with your optimism, but you should expect some of those games to be failures. And it’s pointless to brag about a CGI trailer for Scalebound and Crackdown.

        • Delsin Rowe

when you say ryse, in fact when anyone says ryse, i can laugh on you and their @ss. lol

        • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQNHs-Wpr24PIsKl5CV8Xtw Vulcan Spectre

You don’t list the indie Sony games, but you list games like Max COB?

        • Skeeter49

Let’s see,Phantom Dust is a remake, or a re-imagining, whichever you want to call it, so by your logic we should cross that off, and Crackdown is either a re-imagining, or a sequel, so cross that off. Both consoles are great, this ignorance isn’t needed.,

        • You are flat out wrong

lmao damage controlling the Shitbox Done in a Guerilla Cambridge article. Try harder.

    • Brian Murphy

Bloodborne isn’t a sequel, no matter who it’s made by. The universe is different, the weapons are different and the combat style…all different.

    • TallSilhouette

      The Order
      Driveclub
      Resogun

      Shadow of the Beast
      Let It Die
      Entwined

      • BlackestNight63

Shadow of the Beast isn’t new, but you were ok with everything else.

        • Delsin Rowe

          it’s a reboot you know.

          • BlackestNight63

Not a new IP. Doesn’t negate the main point.

          • Delsin Rowe

            yeah that’s right. just saying.

      • True_Fan

I left off plenty of small games, only 1.5 AAA games out of your list speaks volumes.

        • TallSilhouette

I count at least 3 AAA games in my list, not even counting Bloodborne which is absolutely a new IP.

          • True_Fan

The Order and .5 for DriveClub

You’re a funny troll….a stupid one as well

          • TallSilhouette

            Try harder.

          • Sucka Free

Love how you always find cheap ways to disqualify games. You’re trying too hard

          • True_Fan

Are you serious, You can even customize cars in driveclub. We have been doing that for 2 generations now.

You know there are still unannounced projects right? Glad you got banned already.

        • Jecht_Sin

Feel free to add Knack. It is a brand new IP as well and it spoke volumes.

      • Young Franky

Forgetting about Shadows of the Beast

    • mastahluc

Uncharted Remastred isn’t confirmed in any way. Bloodborne is completely new IP – it’s something different than “Souls” series. And so is DriveClub and The Order: 1886. And there is also Let it Die – also new IP.
In about two months will be Gamescom – another chane for new announcements.

      • mastahluc

Oh, I forgot about Deep Down – new 3rd party IP.

        • Young Franky

Dnt wanna forget about Shadows of the Beast New IP as well.

          • mastahluc

As far we got onlny very old trailer. I hope Gamescom will reveal somthing about Shadow of The Beast. I wish it would be some slasher like God of War – brutal, full of gore and with good plot.

    • Carl

In fact PS4 has so many new IPs coming, that we forget about many of them. Deep Down, Bloodborne, Guerrilla’s new game, new Quantic Dream game, new Media Molecule game, The Last Guardian, Driveclub, The Order 1886… Listing them all would be impossible. :P

And more than just printing a different name in the cover of the same game, PS always has been about the diversity offered to the gamers. RPGs, football, shooters, fighting games, puzzles, and many incredible experiences like Ico.

Meanwhile, Xbox is all about Call of Duty and FPSs. And a little Halo. Even the new controller is designed to just mimic a rifle’s behavior with its rumble motors. Bleah.

    • Sexy Mcgee

To be fair Killzone SF and Infamous SS were still good and were different enough from their predecessors. Halo hasn’t been good in seven years, the last GOW game was average at best, and Forza 5 was a butchered cash grab. If Halo, GOW, and Forza were still great franchises you wouldn’t get that many complaints.

    • futurepixels

      Bloodborne isn’t a sequel.

    • No Way

      butt hurt?

    • Skeeter49

Can we just accept that both consoles have great games.

      • CrusaderForever NoRegret

It’s true, but I still prefer Sony’s exclusives. However, Sunset Overdrive looks really fun.

    • CrusaderForever NoRegret

Stop hating! It’s not Sony’s fault you bought an X1. Join a focus group to Deal With It!

      • GotNews4Ya

No… Why tell him to join a focus group? How about he just focus’ and joins us… with his shiny new White PS4 Bundled with Destiny, right before the Holidays.. so he can experience all the Multiplatform games how they truly should be.. in all their glory.. easily hitting 1080p.. and 60 fps.. and he won’t have to be mad about the Destiny Exclusives.. because he will have them! Welcome to the Team True_Fan.. welcome to the team.

        • GotNews4Ya

Then, he can feel good about having just as many exclusives this fall from Sony. (Xbox really has 1 more exclusive title than PS4 this fall.. wow.. let’s rejoice.. in the end we are all getting boned..)

oh.. and 2015 is looking pretty darn sick for PS4 owners.. I mean.. there is at least 6 or 7 solid Exclusives coming in 2015, with half of them hitting within the first 3 months. Not to mention the whole Multiplats will always look better on the PS4.. You should be using your Xbox One for the exact reason your bragging about it.. the exclusives, and only the exclusives.. Which would have you playing it probably 10% of your gaming time. Real winner there! That why PS4 is doubling the lifetime sales of its competitor in the first year..

    • Negi Springfield
    • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

The facts are Sony makes more new IPs than any other developer. Period. That is a fact. What has Microsoft made? They are not making Sunset Overdrive and they didn’t make Titanfall. What new games have they made? Sony is helping with the development of Bloodborne like they did with Demon’s Souls. You have Sony Santa Monica, Quantum Dreams, Media Molecule, Guerilla Games, and such all working on games. Sony came out with 3 new IPs on the PS3 last year. Microsoft? Zero. Don’t talk about Sony’s sequels.

    • Alkaporty

If your argument for buying a new console is exclusives, then you made a bad choice with Xbox One, look at the exclusives of PS3 compared to Xbox 360.

And by the way TLoU came out on June 2013, so it’s actually more than a year.

    • JustGaming
  • http://people.ign.com/oskitake Oskitake

I will throw the nostalgia bone in here…………..”Crash Bandicoot” for PS4

    • Giuseppe Nelva

Haha, that’d be nice. But I’m not gonna have expectations on that.

    • Brian Murphy

      And Grim Fandango :)

      • http://people.ign.com/oskitake Oskitake

I think that one is being done by another studio …. and for PC ; so I would rule that out.

        • Brian Murphy

It’s not exclusive, certainly, but it is Sony console exclusive (PS4/Vita). It’s being done by another studio, sure, but it’s still has tons of nostalgia factor :)

    • Nicholas

That would be awesome! Also medieval would be cool, only played the first but i’d still like a new one

      • The_Hero

I doubt it. I think it’ll be a shooter or action game.

    • http://eternalgamers.boards.net/ SkinnyAssGamer

When have Guerrila Cambridge ever made a Crash Bandicoot? I’m Sure Naughty Dog would want that more over Guerrilla Cambridge but i will play the nostalgia card too….. is your body ready? is your body reggie?

      MEDIEVIL!!!!!! PLEAAAAAASE UNDAAASTAAANNNDD!!!!!!!!

    • AAA

wasn’t it that rpg they were talking about recently..?

    • Mr0303

You bad evil man. You want to make people cry, don’t you?

    • http://www.xboxonedaily.com/ TheRedButterfly

… Um… For starters, Naughty Dog made Crash Bandicoot, and second of all Activision owns the IP.

  • Nicholas

Makes sense, Cambridge takes over killzone, whilst guerrilla games make a new game, same with lbp3 and media molecule doing something new

  • futurepixels

It would be crazy if they were given an old franchise to reboot.

    • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

If you think about it, many studios are handed over properties from different studios. It happened with Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and handheld games like LittleBigPlanet, God of War, Syphon Filter, Daxter, and so on. Hell even other studios, especially those out of Japan sent their franchises out, rarely reboots though but Devil My Cry comes to mind.

      • futurepixels

Well, Sly Cooper happened because that studio wanted to make a new Sly Cooper game and convinced Sony/Sucker Punch that they could do it. They also weren’t owned by Sony. Most of your other portable examples weren’t done by Sony-owned developers. This would be one of the first times that Sony gave a console franchise to a first-party studio, and that to me would be pretty crazy. In a good way.

        • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

Convincing or not doesn’t matter. Sony allowed it. Most of portable titles wasn’t done by Sony’s studios? Wrong. Ready at Dawn did God of War and SCE Bend did the portable titles of Syphon Filter. That itself is enough and besides, it doesn’t matter. The point is Sony moved their franchises to other studios.

Another example, LittleBigPlanet 3 is “NOT” done by MediaMolecule.

          • futurepixels

Wow, you are, completely missing the point of comment. It’s about the rarity of Sony giving old franchise to their first-party developers to create big new console games.

Sanzaru (the developers who made the new Sly Cooper) are not owned by Sony, and they were not given the project, they asked for it and earned it, so it isn’t a relevant example. Ready At Dawn is not owned by Sony, and they ported games to Vita, they did not make new games for consoles, so they aren’t a relevant example. LittleBigPlanet 3 is being developed by Sumo Digital, and they too, are not owned by Sony, and the development is being overseen by Mm, so the original developers are still involved, so this too, is still not a good example. Stop being stupid.

          • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

‘The point is Sony moved their franchises to other studios.’

          • futurepixels

I said stop being stupid. If you are going to reply to my comments, then you are speaking in relation to what I said, and that is not what I said.

          • http://Xcite79.1up.com/ Keegs79

            Grow up.

          • futurepixels

That is amusing coming from someone who appears to have the reasoning abilities of a child.

        • BLOB

Actually. When played Sly Cooper-Thieves in time. (western-Tennessee Cooper) . I was imagined how would be a SLY COOPER FPS MULTIPLAYER Sly Cooper (Kill4Freedom) FPS.
          LOL.

  • Edge_PT

I’m just going to throw this one out there: it could be a Syphon Filter game.

    • Carl

Apart from Syphon Filter hardly being a multi-million selling franchise in itself (and its hayday was 10+ years ago), an insider said recently that there’s no new Syphon Filter game coming.

      • Edge_PT

It was, in it’s time. Even if it’s not the one being worked on by guerrilla cambridge, it’s a shame there isn’t one coming at all.

        • Carl

We all have our wishes (Crash Bandicoot, Medievil, Parappa the Rapper, etc.), but sadly it’s not enough on its own to bring something back from the dead. A game has to sell.

  • DominicansDontPlay

    Good News!

      Hey man,

Is that controller icon a photoshop or an actual skin? Adonde Adonde!

  • Josh Fuentes

    Resistance? ;)

    • Sucka Free

Resistance belonged to Insomniac and I think it’s pretty much done

      • Josh Fuentes

It’s actually owned by Sony. So it’s up to sony who develops it.

      • Wargreymon559 .

No SOny owns the Reistance IP not Insom. They were just the devs for it.

      • Josh Fuentes

It’s owned by Sony. Stop Spreading inaccurate info

        • Sucka Free

yeah, so you said, 2 months ago. Thanks again, now piss off

            Nope.

          • Sucka Free

            Yes, everyone does

  • Skeeter49

I doubt it’s Killzone, for 2 reasons. At the time it was announced that Guerrilla Cambridge was working on a PS4 title, Shadowfall was still in development. I doubt they’d start working on another Killzone while one was already being worked on by GG, and GG still has 2 teams, so it’d make sense for the Shadowfall team to continue Killzone. And it just seems weird for them to pick up a series that doesn’t really need to be picked up. My guess is either it’s an old series they’re picking up, or one that was started last gen, like Resistance.

  • Craig Sloan

As a PS guy from PS1 to today anything is better than Killzone IMHO. Just move on and make something new please. I agree with the other comments even resistance would be better in the hands of them.

  • CrusaderForever NoRegret

I would be so happy to see Guerrilla Cambridge get the next Killzone on PS4! KZMercenary was so fantastic! I thought it was WAY better than Shadowfall.

    • Giuseppe Nelva

Ah, the nostalgia in that name of yours…

      • CrusaderForever NoRegret

Yeah, it’s very special to me. I really love the Crusader series. I put so many hours into it back in the day. Always hoped for a 3rd game named No Mercy! :)

        • Jorge Jimenez

Lets start a kickstarter for Crusader.

  • They Call Me Senpai

    More Killzone, please!

  • Jamal

I hope its better than the last one

    I want Jet Moto

    • Young Franky

Ooo good one id like that to one come back as well

  • CervantesPR

Please let killzone rest, make something new im killzoned out already.

  • Raian K.

Probably a new Killzone game no doubt, could care less I’m much more exited for that open world RPG that they are developing!!

    • Metal Daryl

There won’t be a new killzone game as lucas and echo have successfully ended the war

      • AceOfSpades

Perhaps you should spend less time reading news on the net, and more time reading the newspapers in Shadowfall. Does the planet Gyre tell you anything? ;)

  • hesoyamdonMonster

i guess their making a new killzone, which is actually really good. With killzone mercenary, gameplay was well refined, and guns where balanced, the shooting mechanics was perfected, it felt smother and faster compared killzone 2 and and less sensitive compare to killzone 3. Guerrilla Cambridge is extremely talented, with their achievement of making ps3s’ most graphical and technical advanced game to run in an handheld is a miracle. Their no portable FPS game like killzone mercenary in the market.

  • Young Franky

I got one you guys “The Getaway”

  • PlayMatt

Please noooo! We don’t derserve another Killzone so soon! That franchise needs to rest so it can have an amazing comeback!

  • Mikail

Playstation fans demand no more Killzone please….

  • Kamille

no more killzone pls. That franchise ran its course already.

  • Why So Serious?

I hope it’s not another Killzone unless they are looking to do something different. I loved KZ 2&3 and while Shadow Fall was good it just wasn’t the same without the craziness of war raging everywhere. The boss fight at the end of Killzone 2 was one of the best, just enemy after enemy is thrown at you.

  • Agustin Freyre

Killzone needs to rest, God of War needs to rest. After Uncharted 4, Uncharted will need to rest. Sony should take advantage of having a fanbase that loves new IPs instead of the same game over and over again.

  • http://www.xboxonedaily.com/ TheRedButterfly

Try and respond to Halo’s success – I dare you.

    • You are flat out wrong

It’s the only IP of value the Shitbox has.

      • http://www.xboxonedaily.com/ TheRedButterfly

And by “of value” you mean more valuable than anything any of Sony’s first-parties have ever created. XD

        • You are flat out wrong

No, I mean it’s the only thing they’ve squeezed out that people wholly care about. That’s Xbot lemming behaviour for Halo for you.

Kiss Phil Spencer’s feet a bit more though and he might let you buy Gears of War again.

          • http://www.xboxonedaily.com/ TheRedButterfly

Never bought Gears, never cared about it.

Also, it’s already in development you dumbass. It has nothing to do with Spencer.

          • You are flat out wrong

You’ll be first in the line, considering it’s an actual game on the Bone. The drought is real.

Oh? Is it? Well that’s new. Then again the new AAA IPs were missing from E3 so they’ll be hoping for churning ports to bring in the moolah.

          • http://www.xboxonedaily.com/ TheRedButterfly

lol It’s rich hearing you talk about a “drought” when DelayClub has yet to release, and the only other title to come out this year is… What is it again? Oh yeah, the overhyped Order and a LOU cash grab.

TMCC is going to run laps around both of those COMBINED. XD Can’t wait to see your face.

Gears has been in development since January you moron. If you didn’t know this, then you’re even dumber than you’ve lead the internet to believe. XD http://www.polygon.com/2014/1/27/5345342/gears-of-war-xbox-one-microsoft-epic-games-rod-fergusson

          • You are flat out wrong

Yes, it’s a drought. Let’s look at the Xbone’s exclusive releases so far this year, shall we?

            - Kinect Sports Rivals

Oh. OK. Yeah, that’s a drought. Sorry.

By the way, the PS4 has seen Infamous and MLB The Show so far with Drive Club (better than Flopza, deal with it) and Infamous First Light coming as sole PS4 exclusives and LBP3 also on the PS4. So yeah, try not to pad out your comeback with betas if possible.

Wouldn’t surprise me, the Burger King Collection is the only big game out on the Bone this year. Tragic for a console that’s supposed to have “all the triple As.” LOL!

I’m referring to the Gears ports Xbots are currently begging for. Maybe you should keep up with what your fellow drones are up to.

Ironic seeing people defend against people saying to kill off the franchise. I don’t think they should either, but pretty funny to read. The same people that want COD to die….. or the same people that call the Xbox just a shooter box.. they can’t wait for a new Killzone.

See people? FPS games are fun. Most everyone loves them and buys them. This is why we have part 5′s of all these types of games.
