Xbox’s Games With Gold Finally Competing on Even Ground with PlayStation Plus, and That’s Awesome

by on August 3, 2014 5:59 PM 297

When Microsoft announced the Games With Gold program for Xbox 360 at E3 2013, it was just little short of ridiculous. I clearly remember my reaction and that of my esteemed colleagues as we were working on covering the press conference. I kid you not, we laughed.

The first two games announced for the service, with all the bells and whistles right in the middle of Microsoft’s press briefing, came all the way from 2007 and 2009.

After the conference the titles were shuffled around, but Microsoft pretty much kept offering a bunch of relics from the past that I didn’t even bother to download, because I had already purchased dirt cheap copies during sales and from bargain bins for all of those I had an even passing interest in.

Again, I’m deadly serious. I didn’t download a single Games With Gold title until June. That’s not because the games were necessarily bad, but offering games that belonged in the deepest depths of the bargain bin simply felt like a value-less proposition. It was too easy for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, many of which are core gamers that grab quite a lot of titles on their own, to already own them all or almost.

Compared to the wealth of content offered by PlayStation Plus (but even on its own, really), Microsoft’s little bunch of hand-me-down titles seemed more like a joke than anything else.

Luckily things have radically changed since the program was extended to Xbox One. Maybe that’s fairly natural. You can’t exactly find many “old games” to offer for Microsoft’s new console, but even the Xbox 360 offering has been improving quite steadily, and with Dishonored this month we finally stepped on the good ground.

Summed on top of solid, recent titles like Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut, August is the first month since 2013 in which I feel that Xbox’s Games With Gold is competing on an even ground with PlayStation Plus.

I’m not saying that they are completely even. As usual your mileage may vary, and you may enjoy one game more than another. PlayStation Plus also has the Vita offering that tips the scale solidly in its favor for users that own Sony’s portable console, but for the first time they don’t feel like they’re on completely different planets, and as a gamer in both camps, it feels really good.

As a matter of fact, though, the rather radical improvement of the offering of Xbox’s Games With Gold isn’t good news just for those that play on Xbox One or on both consoles. It’s awesome for PlayStation fans as well.

I’m quite sure many in Sony’s camp are reading this article with an expression of contempt and disapproval on their faces. Maybe even chagrin. If you’re one of those, I have to encourage you to smile, and understand the value of competition.

PlayStation Plus‘ instant games collection simply had no competition before. Or more precisely, Xbox’s Games with Gold could not be considered competition with any degree of seriousness. A company that lacks competition simply doesn’t need to try as hard to stay on top.

Sony always made an effort to offer good games, but an improving Games With Gold forces them to look at what the other side is doing and attempt to one-up them further. In fact, as soon as Microsoft started offering two games a month for the Xbox One, Sony immediately countered with the same on PS4 (actually in July we got three). Before they offered only one.

We can only hope that competition will continue to escalate, with Sony and Microsoft making continuous efforts to one-up each other. The more both of them offer for our monthly fee, the more we, as consumers and gamers, win.

What’s not to love?

    Wow, good article.

  • mattc2310

Of course xbox fans are happy… They’ve literally copied Sonys every move out of the PS4 play book. Lol

    • Bizzare22

      How?

    • LGK

The PS4 is basically a copy of the 360 in many ways.

      • Thinkaboutit

        ooooohhhhh no he didnt

        • cozomel

So Sony is out “Microsofting” Microsoft. MS cant even do themselves right, talk about “lost”.

      • Somebodyissilent

        How? In what world?

        • sonicboom

By many… I can see you’ve never owned an Xbox 360.

          • Somebodyissilent

            That’s…not an answer….

          • sonicboom

The answer would be too long for me to type out :( All I can do is to encourage you to examine the 360 and PS4 in person side by side, then you will have a definite answer :) GRAVITY RUSH FOR LIFE!

          • Kingdom17

Good you do some small bullet points? I own both and really don’t get what you’re at? Could be because I don’t use my 360 often (See Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Magna Carta 2, Infindity Undiscovery)

          • Vrasku

so you have no answer. ok then. bye

      • Trim Dose

you wish I wouldn’t bought the PS4 if your sentence was true ;).

360 was a closed minded of multiplayer FPS only games, the PS3 was about every genre, unique experiences, not to mention games like Journey, Flower, Flow, Wipeout HD, just to name a few. The 360 was Halos and gears only(not to mention the sequels blow).

The PS4 follows that trend to the next level, right now playing TLOU Remaster, has been epic so far, so what the 360 or xbone has offer to push the game industry ? RROD ? hehe not joking RROD help other consoles to make them better, to bad the MS didn’t learn shat cause of it.

So what exactly the PS4 copy the 360 ?, in absolutely nothing!, it wouldn’t be No.1 if they did that re# %$rded decision. ;)

        • Thinkaboutit

lol so your saying a remastered game pushed the gaming industry
          lol
          lol
          lol
          lol

          • cozomel

            Wow, that was mature.

          • Jonathan George Anaya

How the PS4 copied the 360:
            1. Ditched the Cell
            2. Triggers on Dual Shock
            3. Live Arcade
            4. Party Chat
            5. Paying for PSN

            Did I miss anything?

          • You are flat out wrong

Only 4 and 5 really apply.

        • LGK

I didn’t say it was the same in every way but it is the easiest to develop games for compared to XO, just like the 360. It is also more indie-friendly compared to the XO, which the 360 also was compared to PS3.

Sony learned their mistakes from the PS3 and did it right this generation unlike Microsoft, who decided to do everything wrong instead.

      • Negi Springfield

        What a stupid comparison.

      • WingsOfChicken

PS1 says hi. Who started a console first? See how dumb you sound?

        • bardock5151

I’m not sure if you think Sony started the home console market or you just said “PS1 says hi” for no reason at all.

        • LGK

The PS1 can’t even be compared to the PS3 and 360 in features and capabilities, totally different machines and architectures. The PS1 is two generations behind the PS3 and 360 lol.

      • cozomel

And the X1 is basically a inferior copy of the PS4 in many ways.

    • Kanok Timkhlai

      Where’s a Trophy system from?
      A: Achievement

      Where’s PS Move devices from?
      A: Wiimote

And many many thing that’s Sony take from another companies.

      • Negi Springfield

Where did the idea of “Kinect” came from?

        A: The Eyetoy.

Stop acting like Microsoft isn`t copying the competition.

      • Somebodyissilent

        Dude, check your facts.

      • superkarma

Protip: All big 3 take ideas from each other. That’s the way of the business world.

Where did the Kinect come from?
        A: The PS Eyetoy.

Where did the Xbox (and essentially every console after that) dual analog sticks come from?
        A: The PS1 controller

Where did the X1′s Bluray drive come from?
        A: The PS3.

There’s nothing wrong with each company taking from each other. It’s perfectly normal and is why competition is great for everyone involved. The only ones who seem to care about it are the fanboys who need something to argue about.

      • They Call Me Senpai

Where’d DVD playback come from? PS2.

Where’d dual analog sticks come from? PS1.

Where’d Games with Gold come from? PS+

Where’d motion gaming come from? EyeToy.

Where’d the Xbones blu-ray drive come from? PS3.

Competitors borrowing ideas happens in every industry, but no one cares until it comes to petty gamers.

          • Dario Antonio Puello Lugo

Unnnnn.so,if Sony Has the Brain, how they manage to loose ALL that Billions in the Past 6 Years in a row?.

          • superkarma

If losing billions in 6 years is your argument for not having brains, then I guess Microsoft doesn’t have any brains either. They have also lost many billions in the past 6 years.

The difference is, Microsoft can afford to lose billions, because they have Windows/Office to fall back on. That still doesn’t make those billions lost magically go away, though.

          • Dario Antonio Puello Lugo

Really?,UNnn we must say to Giuseppe that make a post with the Financial lost and profict of the Ninttendo, microsoft and Sony in the past years to get of this confusion.

          • superkarma

Google is your friend. There are already many articles floating around the net about all the billions Microsoft has lost in the past years. Hell, they lost 4 billion just from the OG Xbox.

Like I said, just because they post profits (which I’m obviously not arguing) doesn’t mean they haven’t lost billions. Those profits are in large part due to Windows/Office. There are quite a few other divisions that have been bleeding money for years.

          • Dario Antonio Puello Lugo

Bro when that post came to the light they were refering to the Xbox Division.
Ps. The OG Xbox Lots was in their planes, and didnt was 4 Billions, was 1.5/2 more or less, the xbox live return part of that lost.

          • superkarma

No idea what you’re even talking about, but my point still stands. Microsoft has lost billions in the past few years.

          • Антон Иванов

Hmmm how did it happen that Microsoft, a great American company with the smartest brains in the world LOST MOBILE MARKET? Because Microsoft’s leader is this guy

One month of mediocre games = finally competing with PS+? I don’t think the month to hang your hat on is the month where Crimson Dragon is offered. In my opinion, GWG has a very, very long time before it can be said to be on “even ground” with PS+. One month that’s just slightly better than the previous months is hardly enough to consider it a real competitor for PS+.

That said, competition is indeed great for everyone. Without PS+, GWG simply wouldn’t exist. Without GWG, Sony wouldn’t have any incentive to strive to improve their lineups. So yes, all gamers win. I just think it’s a bit ridiculous (at this time) to say GWG is on even ground with PS+…but that’s just me.

    • Антон Иванов

No, not just you, well said

    • doplerradar

I personally felt last month’s games were better. Guacamelee (I think that is what is called) I heard is a pretty good game. It may be consider to be a “older game” but it is pretty new on Xbox. Still, it would be nice if both Sony and Microsoft heavily compete against each other for the best free game.

      • Haytham

Guacamelee came out for ps+ like a year ago or something -_-

        • doplerradar

I said it was new to Xbox. I know it was on PS3 and I believe Vita earlier.

          • Haytham

This article claims that GWG came close to PS+.
You’re backing it up by saying they had Guacamelee last month for GWG.
Then i come in and i say that doesn’t make it a rival for the PS+ cause PS+ was already done with it last year..

            Kapeesh..?

        • Ominous Prime

It’s not the same version of what was released before.

Games in Gold on Xbox One are much better than PSN+ Games on PS4. Compare yourself:

Towerfall, Mercenary Kings and all those small indie games

          • Vrasku

            metascore for both games:

            crimson dragon 56/100
            strike suit zero 67/100

            FEZ 90/100
road not taken – no score for pc or ps4 version yet.

Max vs Fez – Compare yourself

          • Negi Springfield

So what ? Are you trying to tell that graphics makes the game good ?

            Foolishness.

          • Failz

Guacamelee – 90 meta and that’s not a visual impressive game. Stop being a fanboy and just accept that GWG is a good service.

          • Negi Springfield

Sorry , But I wasn`t talking to you nor asked you and Fanboyism has nothing to do about my question , Not to mention about GWG being a good service than PS+ cause that is a subjective topic.

I`m asking Adam if he THINKS that graphics make the game good , Is he saying that FEZ is garbage just because it isn`t visually impressive game ?

          • Failz

Graphics don’t make a good game, Some of the greatest games of all time are mediocre in visuals.

          • Negi Springfield

Well , That`s something we can agree on.

          • Jonathan George Anaya

FeZ is an ANCIENT game from the 360. It’s good to see Sony putting that GDRR5 through it’s paces *rolls eyes*

          • Negi Springfield

FEZ being an ancient game or SONY putting GDDR5 in the PS4 has nothing to do with my comment :)

I`m asking Adam if he THINKS that graphics make the game good , Is he saying that FEZ is garbage just because it isn`t visually impressive game compared to Max The Curse of Brotherhood ?

          • Jonathan George Anaya

Graphics don’t make a game. Only 1080p makes a game great these days…

I was not “engaged” with Jonathan`s argument , Nor did I “Lost” , But I will agree with him about “Graphics don`t make the game better” , As for the 1080P , Sorry , That has nothing to do with my comment , The same goes for Failz in his first comment mentioning “fanboyism” and “GWG being a better service than PS+”

If anyone lost , It is Adam , Since he never answered my question.

I think for this month PS Plus win simply because they are giving you a brand new game just launched for free along with Fez that’s kinda weird and not for everyone, but a decent game. Crimson Dragon is really just badd LOL and Strike Suit has really cool gameplay, but the story is horrendous.

          • cozomel

Let the stupidity begin (you do know that Strike Suit Zero and Max are indie games right?)

          • You are flat out wrong

You immediately invalidated your opinion with Crimson Mistake.

          • Allen

Son you are on crack if you think games with gold trumps PS+. PS+ is for 3 platforms, more games and higher rated games. Better yet they have been delivering on amazing games each and every month for over 2 years now. I have more games than I have ever had in my life and have been introduced to so many new games I never would have given a chance.

I do like Strike Suit Zero and this is a good month for games with gold. I would like to see them keep it up though and improve to better compete because Sony is still offering far more and for 17% less cost.

If the point of the article is wealth of content and value why not mention EAA?That put the XB1 over the top for August in terms of value added services.

        • sonicboom

EAA is going to be great, Xbox One is getting better and better as time goes on. The updates are huge, Microsoft is slowly (VERY slowly) changing the tide, they even forced Sony to announce the 3D blu-ray playback. That may not be anything of a big deal for some but it certainly is a bed-shaker in the industry.

          • Ominous Prime

XBOX One also is getting 3D Blu-Ray support this month.

        • They Call Me Senpai

Hmmm, that’s debatable. EAA doesn’t add much value if any at all, it’d be a different story if it weren’t exclusive to EA games.

          • Ominous Prime

It may not for you, but for those that do play EA titles, it’s a doozy.

          • They Call Me Senpai

Never said I didn’t play EA games, just that their service doesn’t offer much value.

          • Ominous Prime

Pretty sure that just means you didn’t do your homework then on EA Access.

          • Allen

EA Access isn’t very valuable. These are all old titles. I suppose if you purchase all EA titles then it might be worth it but I think not. So many games come to PS+ and the discount is pretty small and is only on full price digital purchase games.

It may be gamer style but I prefer disk based copies I can buy for cheap a year after release and sell when I’m done. Digital games only go on sale every now and then and does not cover all titles.

To be fair PS Now is much worse than EA access due to the high price of rentals, I hope a subscription will fix that and I hope that Sony gives say 1 free rental a month with PS+ or something.

But compare EA Access to PS+ and EA Access looks way overpriced. If EA Access included all new titles now that would be valuable but it’s not.

          • Ominous Prime

To be clear, and I hope you don’t believe this to be the case, EA Access was not designed to compete with PS+. It was meant to supplement services like PS+ and XBOX Live Gold subscriptions by offering additional titles to enjoy along with additional discounts. The value is there for those that have decided to go digital and enjoy EA titles. To say it doesn’t have value is a bit short sighted.

Now I can see it doesn’t interest someone that only wants physical discs and doesn’t enjoy EA titles. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value.

EA Access equates to $2.50 a month if you subscribe to the yearly service, but you cannot compare it with PS Now or PS+ because they’re not remotely the same. PS Now is streaming previous generation games at odd prices where you never can purchase games from. PS+ is required for multiplayer and offers free games across three platforms to enjoy.

EA Access is about EA titles to download and play on the console the titles were made for. You download them, install them, and play them off of your hard drive like any other game would. You also get discounts on digital purchases from EA of 10% and access to new games up to 5 days prior to release to try. Your progress also transfers over as it isn’t a demo of the upcoming game you’re playing.

EA Access is not a service that would have ever been authorized to grant playability of multiplayer games online by Sony. It wasn’t designed to stream games.

Trying to compare it in that way makes little sense. It’s like saying you don’t see the value of jackets because the cold never bothered you anyway. Let it go! :)

I understand what you are trying to say but this is a subscription service for older titles that are found pretty cheap.

So to an EA fanatic that doesn’t ever purchase any games I could understand, so long as they only want to play older titles. If EA threw in the new games like DragonAge then it would be valuable.

I understand your opinion and have my own. Perhaps to you it’s valuable but to me I learned from a very wealthy guy that lives in Beverly Hills 90210 that every dollar you pay a monthly or annual payment to turns out huge. That’s why everyone and their dog wants you to make those monthly or annual payments. I make less than most my family but have far nicer things because I don’t waste my money.

PS+ is highly valuable and if it doesn’t remain highly valuable I will sell my PS4 and go to free online play PC. But I trust Sony, after all the years I’ve been with them they have always delivered and have always treated me right. I also want to remind you that PS3 is still free online play and IMHO PS4 is only pay to play because of the success of xbox 360 and xbox live, a worthless subscription service (for 13 years, now decent only in recent months) giving nothing and raking in 2.75 billion per year.

Perhaps some day EA Access will be worth it but for a handful of old titles all of which anyone that cares probably already owns I don’t think so. Don’t all the sports games have a new iteration every year as well? Just nothing new so in my “opinion” it’s not valuable at all.

          • Thinkaboutit

over 100 dollars worth for 4.99 is no value at all.

            dont be so salty buddy

          • They Call Me Senpai

Oh, you’re still here trying to bait me?

            Good luck with that.

          • Thinkaboutit

            yep no counterargument… so sad

          • WingsOfChicken

Someone needs to do research….It’s not the entire EA library. EA picks the games you get. So enjoy out of date sports games

          • cozomel

            Tell’em chicken wing

          • Raian K.

While the $100 argument is kinda overkill, the value is there, BF4 for Xbox One is on sale for $28.83, FIFA 14 is $39.99 and Madden 25 is 21.88 and not to mention Peggle 2, but thats probably gonna be free on GWG so ill leave that out. Those games in the vault total equal 90.7, but for your sake ill cut that value in half so its 45 dollars and again still a value. Thats not including 6 off every new title at launch, all DLC at discount and actually being able to try before you buy a game.

          • cozomel

Somebody is seriously on MS’s nuts

          • Raian K.

LOL you can buy a used copy of BF4 for $30 cheapest on Amazon, FIFA 14 is $31, Madden 25 is $18 and you receive access to all that including Peggle 2 for $30 a year. Not to mention it also gives you every EA title at launch for $54 and along with DLC discounts, $45 for a BF4 Premium Membership, FIFA Ultimate Team for $3 off and to put icing on the cake, you can access all EA games 5 days before launch as a try before you buy. How in God’ name is that not a good service or value?

        • You are flat out wrong

Yeah, spend an extra $30 for stuff you should be getting on XBLG. There’s a good gamer.

    • Adam

Games in gold are much better than PSN+ Indie games on PS4. All PSN+ games on PS4 are small indie games. Compare yourself:

      Xbox Gold free game:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGn_hEB_dbA

      PSN+ Games:

Towerfall, Mercenary Kings. Fez… all small indie games

      • superkarma

Come back at me with your real account, not your brand new troll account. Maybe then we could have a discussion, but I doubt that, since you’ll still be a troll either way.

        • Adam

Anywho, back to watching my shows. Have fun failing :)

          • Adam

Are you really think that PSN+ is better than Gold? On PS4 there are only small indie games on PSN+. No single real game.

          • Big Boss

PS+ is better. Remember getting Assassin’s creed 2 a few moths ago? I think Bioshock Infinite was free on PS+ at the time that was announced. Saying that GWG is better all because you got Max CO this month, doesn’t mean anything.

          • Georges

‘no single real game’ daft comment tbh the truth is a few great games came for ps4 but no top game like people say AAA which doesnt mean great. hoping to get more top games as the new gen library builds up but ps3 and vita game are most of the time very good and gamers should own all 3 platforms to enjoy ps+ best

      • Vious

max is a cool game. haven’t finished it yet, got side tracked with other games. had to stop that video…..dont’ want to spoil the fun :D

    • Jonathan George Anaya

I stopped reading after “even ground”. You DO KNOW that it took Sony 7 years to make PSN somewhat on par with Live, right? And it took Sony 7 years to give their fan base party chat?

So, 3 months of mediocre games (your opinion) is NOTHING compared to the Epic Fail of the PS3

      • superkarma

You do know that has absolutely nothing to do with the GWG vs PS+ comparison, right? As usual, you fanboys need to move the goal post.

        Better luck next time, champ.

        • Jonathan George Anaya

          Haha hahaha
In Denial about Sony’s blunders, eh?
And, what brings my point Full Circle is that Live Arcade let indies flourish on consoles! Fez was an Xbox timed exclusive for years. So was Braid. And Insanely Twisty Shadow Planet. Ect ect

          • superkarma

Again, you’re rambling on about something that has nothing to do with this topic. What a shocker.

            Enjoy failing :)

          • Jonathan George Anaya

Fez is the PS+ game of the month… But perhaps PS+ is too much money for you to afford? Is that why you didn’t know it was free yet?

          • Big Boss

You do realize you GWG and PS+ right?

      • Raian K.

Sigh, PS Plus and Games with Gold are being compared here which are the subscription services, not the quality of the network. XBL will always be better than PSN period, however Plus being around longer and the same goes for XBL against PSN makes it better.

Free games for 3 separate platforms gives you much more bang for your buck, but it’s good that Microsoft is fighting back. They still have a long way to go before GWG can be on even ground with PS+, though.

  • John

PS+ games on PS4 for the most part has been indie titles. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I would like to see some game the push some polygons for a change.

  • Wargreymon559 .
    • wrestlefan01

well heck i hope the library is bigger considering they have been doing it far longer

    • Thinkaboutit

      dont let that membership lapse

      • superkarma

        Same goes for GWG.

      • cozomel

And even if he did let it lapse, he’d get every game he had back as soon as he resubscribed. So weak argument.

    • ineedgames

Most of those games I could get for $5 and I already have the ones I like.

A lot of them are also way old.

      • cozomel

I guess you didnt realize that, thats the 1 year of Plus, not this year, thats why you think they are “way old”. Also if you paid $5 for each of those games, that would add up to $320 and thats not including tax. So, thats no where near as good a deal as Plus. So bad points on all fronts there, buddy

        • WingsOfChicken

For the record 2013 games for free with PS+ was roughly $1890 in savings.

          • cozomel

GAWD DAMN SON!!! But ineedgames thinks he could do better, lol! Fanboys are such fools.

    • Black Heaven

Being around longer, PS+ has the clear advantage.

For GWG to catch up, they need to pump out 64 games or more in 1 year.
Doesn’t matter (too much) if some of the games are old, just give some good new ones here and there.

  • Vulcan Spectre

I agree with most of the points but superkarma is spot on with his comment. Looking through the others posts though?

  • Boerewors

Games with Gold actually managed to create the opposite feeling of what they were aiming for with me: I felt mad. I hate being ungrateful, but GwG felt like a cheap copy of Plus in every way and was something that Xbox didn’t need. Live had proven itself more than enough for me and now all of a sudden we were given games which were 6 years old and you expect me to be happy?
Even now I don’t really know what to think about it: I’d rather have MS focussing on what they do best. MS is starting to copy Sony’s PS in every aspect and I don’t like it a single bit. If I want a PS experience, I’d might as well buy a PS4. I want the Kinect to blow me away, I want to snap between live sports and my own game. Heck, I even want DRM because I feel games will be much cheaper if you abandon the current model. MSs focus has totally shifted towards offering the same proposition as their competitor is offering, where I feel they should’ve focussed on getting people on board for their, sometimes radical, new approach to gaming.

    • HawaiianDread

Pretty much, after the backlash Microsoft pretty much started to copy Sony in every aspect like you said. Even with all the money they have, they are too sacred to risk breaking away from their competitor model and create their own unique model for the Xbox. I honestly think this is one reason why many people are going with PS4 this gen, because so far Microsoft really haven’t shown they have confidence in their product and is just copying their competition.

I honestly think they should have kept the DRM and release two systems. One with the DRM and one without and then they should have shown/convince people why they should have gone with their DRM model, instead of the of the non DRM/ Sony way. Again this is just in my opinion, and all I’m saying is that they should have stuck to their gun and made their own way of doing things.

  • Ricoh123

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

          its not a bad deal.
4 hours, 7 days, 30 days, 90 days are all the options right now for its games. I do feel they do need a subscription model like $99.99 a year to access and stream an unlimited amount of games because i feel that would be a better deal for me then paying $5 a month and then paying for a certain amount of time on the games when i could pay $100 for PS Now and stream an unlimited amount of games that will be added on it continuously. and then maybe 2 other yearly options for budget gamers $29.99 to access maybe like 100 games on PS Now? $79.99 to access maybe 500 games? 99.99 to access an unlimited amount of games? That seems fair to me. Or the consumer could just do $5 a month deal instead if they don’t like those options. The choice will be theirs.
$5 a month? 29.99 a year to access 100 games? 79.99 a year to access 500 games? 99.99 a year to stream unlimited amounts of games? i feel would be a much better option to provide to gamers and consumers who want PS Now

          • Ricoh123

            It’s a bad deal.

I agree Microsoft is doing a Great Job with GWG but i wouldn’t say its on even grounds with PS+ just yet, and if I’m not mistaken Microsoft might be taking one out of the PS4 playbook by adding indie titles to the GWG we will see how the Xbox fans take that after giving the PS4 so much BS

    • sonicboom

Agreed. Microsoft is slowly (and I meant very slowly!) turning the tide, things are getting better for the XB1. I like the PS4 too though

      • Vrasku

where i come from 570k ps4 were sold and only 170 xb ones total. ppl will not buy xbox one bc of GWG suddenly. it is far from being on same level as PS+.

  • Craig Sloan

GWG may have gotten better but no way is it even with PS Plus. Arguably one of the PS4′s best games was a free PS Plus game in Resogun. I got Dishonered GOTY edition for 20 pound last year.

  • bob

Isn’t it ONE “free” game every 2 weeks? That’s not as good. I’ll admit they’re getting better, but they are still rotten and disgraceful to me, the consumer.

Sony atm has much more respect for their customers, I mean they bounced EA’s subscription bullcrap concept because all EA wants to do is get by by poorly imitating other more successful companies’ business strategies in a much greedier and sh*ttier way .

    • https://www.facebook.com/TheGamingAlcoholic The Gaming Alcoholic

Actually the free games offered on the Xbox One are both available from the beginning of the month to download. So Crimson Dragon and Strike Suit Zero were available from the start on August 1st.

The games offered on the Xbox 360 are still split however. So Motocross Madness is free until the 16th, and then Dishonored will be free for the remainder of August.

  • Wagner Paiva Fernandes

Yep, free games are always nice =D I like both my PS4 and my XBOX ONE.

  • Jonathan

I’m honestly very happy with GwG. Just on XB1 I’ve downloaded $95 worth of games that I have personally enjoyed very much. I only paid $48 for my Gold subscription and I feel like it was definitely worth it.

  • Nordu

GWG still has quite a lot of ground to cover if it is going to “compete on even ground” with PS+, one of the reasons being that the PS offered this service earlier and the other being that MS is getting quite a lot of negative press atm (this will pass in time no doubt) If MS wants to impress people they will not only require quantity but quality. I finished strike suit zero and found that it was quite fun but started on crimson dragon and find that is it not appealing to me as much, I would like to see games like Child of Light, From Dust or even Bastion on GWG.

Also anyone complaining about getting free games should be continuously be smacked in the face with a copy of Duke Nukem…Forever. Yes you pay for XBLive or PS+ but remember that these services have not always been in place.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

ehh not really. Still has a lot of work to go. PS Plus by far is still the superior service compared to Xbox Live as of now.

    -$10 less/$50 A Year
    -More/Better Discounts
    -Exclusive Betas
    -Timed Trials
-Free Games Every month across 3 platforms
    -And other Exclusive benefits

    Xbox Live
    -$60 a year
-2 games each month only on 2 platforms
    - Not as great discounts as their rival
and as far as i know i don’t think they support Timed Trials or Exclusive Betas for Xbox Live members i could be wrong about this part though. so don’t take it for granted.

but so far in my opinion and experience PS Plus offers the best value to gamers worldwide so far. We will see in the future if it maintains that status quo.

    • ineedgames

it’s 4 games every month for GWG for 2 platforms and we get some awesome discounts on games.

And PS Plus still can’t hold a candle to Steam.

      • superkarma

That’s neat. PS+ also gets some awesome discounts on games. Fable Legends is an exclusive to begin with, so of course it’ll have an exclusive beta…derp.

Also, what are you doing comparing PS+ to Steam? Did you run out of foolish things to list in an attempt to downplay PS+?

        • ineedgames

The guy said ps+ is the best service to gamers, why else would I talk about another gaming service like steam? If I was trying to downplay ps+ I got better ways to do it.

          • superkarma

It’s pretty obvious he was referring to console gamers…ya know, since this is a console gaming article, comparing two console gaming services, on a console-centric website. Bringing Steam into the discussion was just a failed attempt to downplay PS+.

            Keep trying.

          • ineedgames

He said gamers world wide, that did not specify anyone.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

i kind of meant that when i said 2 games a month on 2 platforms. Should of used “2 games Per month for 2 platforms” instead. lol.

PS+ so far has only given alphas??????? Battlefield Hardline Beta, Destiny Beta, and on the PS3 i believed they had a Resistance 3 multiplayer beta, as well etc. i don’t know about much more then that because i am a new subscriber to PS Plus and loving it right now.

also Steam? isn’t on consoles. i don’t know why you compare Steam to PS Plus or Xbox Live. but Xbox Live doesn’t even hold a candle to steam. Just saying. better discounts then both services combined! free to use and access. Early Access to games, etc.
so if you want to include Steam then its more like
        1) Steam
        2) PS Plus
        3) Xbox Live
in my opinion of course. but again Steam is a PC Service not a Console Service which was i discussing Consoles only. PC doesn’t enter it. Just saying.

    • Vious

      xbox live:
      - officially $60 per year. but can be had for as low as $30, but more regularly $50 per year
      - great and lots discounts
      - exclusive betas
      - timed trials and first on dlcs
      - free games every month across 2 platforms
      - free shows, series, animes, shorts
      - other exclusive benefits
      http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-LIVE-Month-Gold-360/dp/B00EQNP8F4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1407126230&sr=8-3&keywords=xbox+live+gold

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

        - So is PS Plus found on several discounts below $50 so whats your point there?
        - Free Shows, series, animes, and shorts? that sounds ok but when i’m looking for a gaming service i’m not looking at what other things it could offer me in the multimedia aspect i’m looking for what it could offer me in the gaming aspect.

as for the rest i believed i said that already. However PS Plus so far wins the best service so far in my opinion for console gamers (for people like indeed or whatever won’t get confused and try to bring Steam into this lol)

2 free games every month across 3 Platforms versus 2 free games each month on 2 platforms and don’t forget Microsoft usually expires their last generation console rather quickly, Sony usually keeps it going for a while so you got to put that into account as well. just saying as a note.

        • Vious

          - my point was that there are discounts all around the place and even ones that are fulfilled by amazon (amazon prime) so you know it’s guaranteed.
          - the free shows and thing ARE apart of the service and is there for those who want/use it.
          - no, for the rest you said: “i don’t think they support….”
anyway, your opinion is your opinion, just like mine, is mine.
          -
          - about your last statement, of the 2 past gen consoles the x360 were the only one to get an updated design change. that looks to me that they plan on supporting the console for a while to come. which pretty much invalidates your argument.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

            - next time include that into your post before posting to try and counter because their are discounts all over the place with PS Plus too.
            - Free Shows yeah they may be apart of the service and i can choose to use them if i want but still why would i waste $60 on a service that rarely offers me anything in return and stuff i don’t need in a gaming service? With PS Plus offering me better and $10 less!

-also how does that invalidate my argument? Xbox 360 can easily go out the door in about a year we all know what Microsoft does. Strip away backwards compability and end the generation quickly to start the new one. Sony on the other hand we know they have always support previous generations in row. Ps2 i believed lasted all the way until like 2012!!!! and the original PlayStation was discontinued by March 2006!!!!!! you can already tell that the PS3 has a long life ahead of it still. Meanwhile Microsoft drops support and forces you to have to buy the next generation Xbox as quick as possible because you won’t be getting any new games.

my argument is invalid? Yet lets see past generations of other companies: sony supported the PS1 from 1994 or 1995 depending on the region to 2006! PS2 started in 2000 and ending in 2012.

Original Xbox started in 2001 in NA and ended in 2008 in NA

Xbox 360: started in 2005. you can expect the Xbox 360 lifecycle to end around 2016 most likely. and you can probably expect the PS3 to continue on. #dealwithit #Facts

NES 1985 where it started. 1995 discontinued in North America. no remodels or or redesigns on the NES! nice try though. find another excuse.

we’ll see how things go in the future.
anyway, Microsoft wasn’t the ones who strip out backwards compatibility, that was a sony move as they wanted to continue selling ps2s.
yes, the original xbox was discontinued early but it’s games were forward compatible with the xbox 360 therefore users weren’t left in the dust with their investments in the games.
            - if the xbox 360 is discontinued in 2016 then it is in that year the xbox one will have backwards compatibility seeing that it’s Microsoft’s track record to add BC to their console just like in the past where gamers won’t be left out in the cold with their investments in games.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

umm Xbox 360 doesn’t have backwards compatibility dumba**?

            PS3 had backwards compability though.
            their were 3 models:
            40GB
            60GB (The Backwards Compatible model)
            80GB

they did it to save costs and to lower the price on later models on the PS3. They didn’t do it to sell more PS2s. or anything because they were already selling so many PS2s! Hell even now PS2s are still being demanded!

Microsoft never supported backwards compatibility in any of their consoles. I don’t know where you get your info from but Microsoft never did any of that. lmao. Try harder to lie and spread false info.

          • Vious

all versions of the 360 are backwards compatible, you don’t need to buy specific models for that.
and those models you mentioned about the ps3 are discontinued and are not being sold by sony anymore. you can’t buy a brand new ps3 from that sony has a backwards compatibility with ps2 games = being stripped out.
            -
about you saying Microsoft has never had backwards compatibility on any of their consoles just exemplifies why your opinions can’t be taken even at face value. because 360 BC is a simple web search away.
if I didn’t lent out my 360 I would’ve made a small video as I still play fight night round 3 from the original xbox on the 360 sometimes.
            but anyway, from Microsoft: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-other-devices/original-console/play-original-games
now, look in the mirror and you’ll see who’s the liar who always spreads false info and fud.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

re-read that paragraph. in the first sentence for me i will even help and put it in all caps just in case you missed it:
“You can play some Original Xbox games on your Xbox 360 console (now here is the kicker) IF YOU HAVE AN XBOX 360 OFFICIAL HARD DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you imbecile you can’t play games on your Xbox 360 unless you have their official hard drive! which is complete BS! Nintendo gives you full backwards compability. Sony gives you full backwards compability (up until the Slim and Super Slim models) lmao. Microsoft has not given you FULL BC! lmao. seems like you are still the liar who spreads false info. looool. Just have dat seat and except the ownage. lmao. XD

i could play those SELECT FEW GAMES! or i could buy a 60GB PS3 and play any PS2 game i wanted! and i can upgrade the hard drive. lmao.!!!! Deal with the ownage. take it. idiot. You got owned. I saw straight threw that BS right their and Sony hasn’t pulled no BS like that ever. Deal with it.

          • Vious

it’s clear to me that you really are an idiot.
            - if I go out to today and buy an xbox 360 from Microsoft I can use it to play original xbox games = backwards compatibility
            - if you go out today and buy a ps3 from sony you can’t use it to play your ps2 games = stripped out backwards compatibility which were there on launch models.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

No. If someone goes out today and buys a Xbox 360 for like $130 they will then have to spend $130 on Xbox 360 media drive in order to do that. because you need a Xbox 360 official media drive in order to play your Original Xbox games on your 360. you moron. its right here
            http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Xbox360/Accessories/HardDrives/Home

then you have to buy Xbox Live Gold, then you have to buy more accessories, batteries, charging stations, etc etc list goes on, games, more games, etc etc. For your Xbox 360. When you could simply buy $60GB PS3 off ebay right now cheaper then a 360. you could even be lucky and find one new on Ebay i bet or Amazon. And you don’t need a Media Drive, or a Subscription for PS3. (since that requirement is only for PS4 users as of now). and why would i got out and buy a 360 to only play a select few of games from my Original Xbox library? When i could use my 60GB PS3 and play any PS2 games i wanted. not being limited. not having to buy separate drives. etc. I can upgrade the hard drive if i want. and with PlayStation 3 you have more FREEDOM then on the Xbox 360. its just a fact, Sony gives you more options, better deals, better services, better quality games, etc. Microsoft doesn’t even begin to compete because they want to sell you an extra drive in order to have another functionality in your console. and then spend another on this, and on this, and that, etc etc. you are spending MORE! when it comes to Xbox 360. you are ending up spending LESS! when it comes to a PS3.

          • Vious

You wrote a book for pretty much no reason.
Tell me can you buy a ps3 from Sony that supports backwards compatibility?
If no then case closed = the feature was stripped from the console which was something you claimed Sony hasn’t done. You even said you need luck to find a ps3 that supports BC.
You also claimed that the Xbox 360 never/doesn’t support backwards compatibility which I’ve proved you wrong there time and time again.

Anyway, case closed. You clearly have no argument and are fishing along with lying even though you know the truth. Anyway, you can continue this nonsense by yourself.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

i flagged for comment for retardation. just so you know. moron. Putting words in my mouth that i did not say “you even said you need lucj to find a PS3 that supports BC” yeah you need mental help. seriously you are a special kind of idiot aren’t you?

My point to the argument is: PS3 60GB version has BC in Full you can go to Ebay, Amazon where ever you want to buy it. It may not be directly from Sony right now currently but its still out their and you don’t need “luck” to find one. as you epically fail to try and put words in my mouth.

But with Xbox 360 you have buy $130 official Xbox 360 Hard Drive in order to play that limited section of games on your Xbox Website. its right their. only a selective few titles you can play on Xbox 360 but first you need to guess what? BUY! in order to use the feature. Which is complete BS. but with Sony? all i have to do is buy a 60GB PS3 and hook it up and their i go right from my own console, i don’t need anything special extra to buy. i can just play straight from my 60GB PS3. Deal with it. your the one lying and dodging the facts. i gave you reality and facts now you are trying to avoid it. You really are a special kind of stupid aren’t you?

lmaooo, maybe you should read the description. tested some ps2 game. but has problems with ps3 games. lol, then what’s the point in buying that?
if you want to go buy a broken system then go right ahead. lamoo
might as well buy a ps2 since what you linked to has problems lmaoo.
            http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/consoles/standard/Home
            brand new, no problems.

comes with 250GB HDD. there’s no need to buy the console without an HDD.

oh maybe if you catch the last 15 minutes you can get one for about $80? lmao. on ebay. seems like i was right? who was lying again? oh yeah you. typical Xbox Fanboy.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

try harder to lie next time. i’m done i showed you reality, you refuse to see reality, etc. i’m done. you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. i showed you plenty of facts. i proved to you plenty of facts. you can find a PS3 60GB for dirt cheap on Amazon or Ebay or wherever. their not rare. or anything like that. lmao. But then if you go for the Xbox 360 you have too:
-Buy an Xbox 360 console for $130
            - Buy some Xbox 360 games for it
            - Buy an Xbox Live Gold Card for $60
            - Batteries, Charging kits, etc etc lol
            - controllers, headsets, etc etc.
            - Xbox 360 Media Drive in order to play a selective amount of games. which is going for $130.

so yeah? which is the better value? with the PS3 60GB all you have to do is:
            - Buy a PS3 60GB Version
and your good to go. deal with it. PS3 60GB BC is better, full BC you can play any PS2 games you want. not limited, doesn’t force you to buy an extra perphial.

hmm. looks like i won this case. your the one who is lying. deal with it. except facts and reality. and Learn to deal with it. have a nice day. you special kind of stupid you :D

you can go ahead and buy a used system that’s at least 6 or 7 years old.
            lmaoo, you are weak, jellyback

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

i don’t need to buy a a used system i already own a 60GB PS3 currently i got no reason to. but i’m just stating facts here. PS3 60GB has Full BC and Xbox 360 is not. you have to buy extra stuff along with it in order to use the features. when i buy a PS3 60GB i get it all in one. which is a better deal then buying a broken feature system that you have to buy extra stuff in order to get the full functionality of it. lmao!!!! LMAO!! again i think you need a doctor dude. XD

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/SkinnyAssGamer100 SkinnyAssGamer

it went somewhere meaningful he got owned. He refuses to accept the fact that Xbox 360 has no “Real” BC. and you have to buy extra peripherals in order to play Original Xbox games. its not even every Original Xbox game. its a limited selection. lmao. while the Ps3 60GB BC version you can easily get it and all you have to do is set it up on your TV and then you can play any PS2 game you want on it. no need for extra peripherals or anything like that. all you need is the PS2 Disc of whatever game you want stick it in their and you can play it on your Ps3. while with Xbox 360 you need all this extra stuff which adds up. With Ps3 its all in one. with Xbox 360 your paying for incompleteness. lmao.

        • DLConspiracy//

If your point is to prove that PS+ is better, then we only need to look at your picture to know what you think. No offense dude.

Xbox only has 2 platforms… Vita isn’t exactly super supported either.. Maybe for PS+ but it’s in serious need of attention right now.

  • ineedgames

Waiting for Crimson Dragon to download now, That game looks so good.

    • Da GeeZ

Just downloaded that, will be playing in next hour.

The Panzer Dragoon games were my favourite franchise on the Saturn, and I have the warmest memories of Panzer Dragoon Saga, one of the best RPG’s I’ve ever played. The morphing ability of the Dragon was so unique at the time and visualized so well(considering it was on the Saturn).

So I’m really looking forward to Crimson Dragon :)

lol that is hilarious that you really think they are on even ground with PS+. thanks for making me laugh abit :)

  • Anthropophagic

I have been subbed to Xbox Gold since I got my 360. Back then I had no choice to pay if I wanted to play multi-player.

The fact that I now get free games and more discounts, Couldn’t be happier to be honest. I mean I would be paying for it regardless.

I/We do have Sony to thank for this of course. Before PS came around, there was no reason to give Xbox anything more than the bare bones.. So yeah, All good in my book.

  • andy

Err how about for the 1st time in 12 years, Xbox Live can actually be defended as being value for money. THAT is more like it. I would have NEVER considered EVER purchasing a 360 because of the terrible, pretty much required to do anything, service that was Xbox Live Gold (you couldn’t even download demos when they were released because of Microsoft’s fear of freeloaders bringing down their service’s bandwidth).
Games for Gold is THE one good benefit in the last 12 months that somebody like me can look at as NOT avoiding the Xbox brand anymore though, I guess Microsoft have that going for them. In other words, I would look twice at Xbox and Live now as an actual purchasable console and service because it NEVER was before Games with Gold.

  • http://www.sony.com Based Sony

Agree with all the other based commenters.
There’s simply no way they can compete. PS+ has been around longer, therefore it’s better. More based.

Again, M$ might as well just give up on the Xbone and their silly promotions.

    • Vious

    • Bugdiecat

Be careful, Vious replied to you with a picture instead of words, don’t reply back or you’ll get a animated gif from 5 years ago (like the one above) as a response. The xbot’s not fond of words when other people make sense.

        Silly Xbots.

    • DLConspiracy//

So what you are saying is because it’s around longer then it’s better right? So what does that make XBL over PSN? They have been doing a subscription “based” program a lot longer than PS has… Just saying.

If you were smart and unbiased you would realize that both services affect one another positively. Instead you allow your personal preference cloud your judgement.

      • http://www.sony.com Based Sony

It’s better because Sony knows how to make things based.

  • megablast16

GWG has still got a long way to go to match PS+, although personally there hasn’t been much on PS+ that has interested me recently, mostly stuff I’ve already played. I do like Indie games but I’m looking forward to retail games games arriving on PS4 soon via the service.

  • TheFatDeliquent

Competition is always good for us Gamers! But gotta be bias here, as a PS fan, I do feel PS+ is THE service to be subscribe to. I have a PS3, PS4 and PSVita and with PS+ everything sorta, you know, connects.

    • Failz

      Because 360/XB1 don’t…

      • FF9F00

PS+ connects 3 platforms. Xbox Live can maybe compete someday when they give out smartphone games.

Until then, PS+ will constantly outpace it with more games per month and bring a strong synergy to the three playstation platforms.

      • MTM2

        “Because 360/XB1 don’t”

        Top grammar lad.

  • *Travis*

GWG being better or even close to PS+? I think not!… PS+ is 10x better than GWG, didn’t xbox owners get the same game like 2 months in a row?

    • DLConspiracy//

They are both pushing out indies and older AAA titles now. Both are doing fine.

  • mikeslemonadeFromN4G

arguably none of the XBL months are better than the ps plus months

  • Drysden Filer

ps+ gives us better games but i think microsoft is getting better with their games for gold program and if i had an xbone or 360 id be happy these past few months

  • Jecht_Sin

I do admit that Dishonored landing on GwG has been a bit of a shock for me. Hopefully for the xboxers that will be the norm. We’ll see who will be the first to roll out an AAA game for next gen.

Regarding PS Plus I am not sure about the NA IGC, but in the European one we have got in the past plenty of months with 3 PS3 titles where 2 of them where AAA. It was kind of the norm, actually. At the beginning they even included some DLCs!!!

    • Vious

is crimson dragon a AAA game?

      • BlackestNight63

        Hell no.

        • Vious

Ok I hear that. But why isnt it classed an AAA game?

          • ManagedCorn

            because this is not baseball.

          • Vious

I don’t watch baseball, so your “witty” reference went over my head = wasted.

          • BlackestNight63

Not big budget, and no marketing.

          • Vious

            ok makes sense.

          • Dennis Djoenz

Crimson Dragon was initially intended to be a Kinect game and it’s a downloadable game right? It never screamed AAA to me.

          • Jecht_Sin

Because it isn’t on disc, nor it is at full price.

          • Vious

@blackestnight63:disqus already answered my question and it turns out that it’s budget and marketing that determines what are classes trippleA games, not if it’s on disc or it’s price.

          • Jecht_Sin

I dunno. Is that the real definition? Because I see a lot of arguing about the lack of AAA games in both consoles, but what the heck does really define an AAA game? And even if it is the budget, what is the minimum amount needed for a game to considered AAA?

          • Vious

don’t know what’s the minimum that would make a game triple A.
the reason I asked is because knack is considered triple A and to me that didn’t make sense (and still doesn’t)

          • Jecht_Sin

Ahhh…. that was your not so subtle reason. Well, Knack did come on disc and at full price. It is an AAA game according to my definition. Which is the easiest to measure. Minecraft for example comes on disc, but it is only $20 (and few megabytes..). DCU Online for PS4 isn’t considered an AAA game because it is digital only and F2P. But it was an AAA game on PC and PS3. Instead Crimson Dragon is not an AAA game at all.

  • lassenwolf

Gold is better if you traded your ps3 for a ps4. Plus has nothing for ps4 but indie games or games that are just ported from ps3 to ps4. And vita plus who cares the vita is dead.Once Sony gets a subscription for NOw then Ps4 will be worth playing games other than games that we already had on ps3.

  • Dirkster_Dude

While offering free games for subscribers is a good idea a lot of those games no one will want to play or play again. I suspect until Sony showed it was a good idea Microsoft was on the fence about offering it because they were on top and couldn’t see how they could go any higher in the minds of the consumer. Fortunately, Sony became relevant again online and competition from Sony made Microsoft to rethink it’s position.

  • Jahonius

No doubt XBox GWG has a lot of catching up to do to PS+, but I think their recent offers were much, much better than how they started.

If anything, Sony should take notice and do something more – a win win for gamers indeed.

  • Russell Gorall

A Dualshockers bit where it isn’t praising Sony and not a mention of a Naughty Dog PR release?

  • albatrosMyster

Yay xbox owners get equal treatment!

  • Jonah Thrillz

It’s funny cuz I just read another article that didn’t like this August’s game offerings.

I guess all these articles are like that saying about opinions and bungholes.

  • DLConspiracy//

I think its pretty even now. Even though I know every PS fan is grumbling under their breath at how far it is. Don’t worry PS only fans its not a threat. Its a good thing for everyone.

  • Jonah Thrillz

That’s the problem with Micro$oft. They don’t care until the bottom line hits them.
Several years ago when Sony offered PS+, M$ never bothered to compete. Their attitude was “We’re Micro$oft. We have the best console in the Xb360. The sales prove it! We don’t need to match competing offers!”.

Fast forward to the present and you see Micro$oft reluctantly giving in. Sony on the other hand has been quite swift in matching the amount of games given on next gen consoles.
    Different philosophies for each company.

Micro$oft is all about getting everything nickel from every customer. Sony is about providing the best experience and value.

Correction, every corporation is about money. Some just paint themselves as friends to the consumer more.

Both have their pros and faults. You can’t look at 1 month.

All I know is that I can’t get back into my plus games atm
And my gwg are mine. Just saying.

If Sony had a way to get free money like M-soft’s Bing, I’d be all over that. but soe rewards is oooo slow and wheel of fortune is dead at the end of the month,

  • 3rdworldgamer

hmmmm…. 1month of GWG and its already awesome??? imo, the correct term that should have been used is “NICE IMPROVEMENT” compared to the previous months

let’s wait for at least a full year before we passed judgement on the service, shall we?

The weird thing about this article is that, to me, August has been the weakest GWG to date on the XB1.

Crimson Dragon is awful and Strike Suit Zero is fun, but nothing special. Compared with the last 3 or 4 months, August feels weak – presumably because of MS’s big EA announcement, they felt they could coast a bit this month.

But it was interesting reading all the same and it’s nice to see Dualshockers giving “the other side” a little love (even if the comments section is as hateful as always).

I would still rather play a kind of crappy game for free than pay for it. Makes playing it that much better when it’s included in something you plan to pay for regardless of the free games. I say it all the time. I pay for PS+ for the extra games. I pay for XBL for the online gaming servers and chat.

      • worryingrash

Totally agree – I’m not complaining – just saying that imo the writer picked the worst month to big up the service!

        “chat”?

There’s party chat on both consoles mate

        • DLConspiracy//

Yes in fact there is. It’s still not the same “codec” or quality. I know that gets peoples panties in a bunch when I say that. I prefer XBL chat over PSN because it sounds better. Most people I know who have experienced or own both XB1 and PS4 say the same thing.

I know we’ve beaten this horse to death by now, but I came across an interesting tidbit last night. Microsoft has plans (or at least wants to) to bring Skype to the PS4.

That would be pretty interesting, as that would presumably give the voice quality a nice bump. Now the only question is how long will it take for them to actually follow through.

          • DLConspiracy//

Well it’s a branch of their business. I would assume that the quality would only be limited to Skype service though. As I am sure they wouldn’t want to open up their skype quality to PS party chat. I bet when/if it does launch on PS4 it will be limited to 1v1 skype calls only. As it stands we can have 3 people in skype now for free, but it’s a MS company so it makes sense.

          • superkarma

Yeah, the Skype codec is used for X1′s party chat, so I just assumed they would license it out to Sony as well…assuming they follow through with bringing Skype to PS4.

I guess we shall see. I’m not really a fan of using Skype on a TV to begin with, but if it helps with improved chat quality then so be it. I personally have no problems with the PS4 party chat quality. People sound clear as day to me. But then you compare it to X1 quality and it’s an obvious difference. No denying that.

          • DLConspiracy//

It gets the job done and that’s all that really matters but when you get down to it. I prefer the XB chat. I think each service excels in certain areas that the other doesn’t/can’t.

          • Jecht_Sin

Oh, so you get a better experience listening to cry babies and mommies yelling? :D

          • DLConspiracy//

They all went to PS4, you didn’t notice? :P

          • Jecht_Sin

No, no. We have got the adults. Apparently the whole gay community as well according to some Xbots comments in the GayStation articles. The 5 million XB1 users are mostly the CoD kids. ^_^
