Square Enix just released a new music video featuring the lovely “I Beat Titan!” Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn track rearranged by composer Masayoshi Soken during the anniversary broadcast a couple days ago, and besides the music itself we also get some bonus news at the end.
The final splash screen boasts “over 2.3 million adventurers worldwide,” which is a quite sizable number. By comparison the E3 trailer mentioned 2 million, while the PS4 launch trailer boasted over 1.8 million, marking an intake of roughly 500,000 accounts since the release of the PS4 version.
It’s relevant to mention that the number does not include just active accounts, but everyone that purchased the game. That said, it’s still a definitely respectable amount.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is definitely one of the most positive success stories in the MMORPG market. After the shattering failure of the first Final Fantasy XIV, not many would have bet any money on its rebirth.
Yet Naoki Yoshida and his team shown the gaming industry what determination and quite a bit of typically Japanese stubbornness can achieve (where most publishers would have just fired most of the team and put the game on life support for a long free to play agony), steering a sinking ship into one of the most successful pay to play MMORPGs of the history of the genre.
