Final Fantasy XIV Boasts 2.3 Million Accounts in New Video; 500,000 Gained Since PS4 Release

by on August 25, 2014 2:12 PM 17

Square Enix just released a new music video featuring the lovely “I Beat Titan!” Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn track rearranged by composer Masayoshi Soken during the anniversary broadcast a couple days ago, and besides the music itself we also get some bonus news at the end.

The final splash screen boasts “over 2.3 million adventurers worldwide,” which is a quite sizable number. By comparison the E3 trailer mentioned 2 million, while the PS4 launch trailer boasted over 1.8 million, marking an intake of roughly 500,000 accounts since the release of the PS4 version.

It’s relevant to mention that the number does not include just active accounts, but everyone that purchased the game. That said, it’s still a definitely respectable amount.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is definitely one of the most positive success stories in the MMORPG market. After the shattering failure of the first Final Fantasy XIV, not many would have bet any money on its rebirth.

Yet Naoki Yoshida and his team shown the gaming industry what determination and quite a bit of typically Japanese stubbornness can achieve (where most publishers would have just fired most of the team and put the game on life support for a long free to play agony), steering a sinking ship into one of the most successful pay to play MMORPGs of the history of the genre.

hmm, that game has a pretty huge following it seems.

That’s a great success. It kinda does get addicting and there is a lot to do. I hope the expansion that comes out for it soon has a story that can be on par with Chains of Promathia or Wings of the Goddess from FFXI.

From the teasing we’ve seen so far I have high hopes. Can’t wait to visit Ishgard :D

And 5 million subscribers gained since Chinese release.

1 million copies sold from what I read today (http://2p.com/8520733_1/FFXIV-Chinese-Release-Conference-on-Aug-20-Chinese-Singer-Sang-Answers-by-flamedust.htm), but that doesn’t mean it won’t grow fast. I wonder if they count the GIL and materia farming accounts in China…

Those are pre-orders. The game entered open beta today.

so worldwide does not include Chinese ????

      • Giuseppe Nelva

not yet, since they’re pre-orders, not actual sales.

Nah I was totally joking about how much people there are in our country. It might hit 5 mil eventually though.

I tried watching the Titan video, but then the PTSD kicked in and I started having flashbacks from back when I was doing Titan extreme on a regular basis. I’ll be in the corner curled up in the fetal position if anyone needs me.

One of those very few games that I keep playing again and again and again! Love it!

Nice to hear this is such a success, heres hoping it comes on the XBOne too. I don’t see why MS has a problem with it, SE could simply open new worlds for people who would prefer a new start and it would definitely be nice to see this game getting even bigger.

This MMO is awesome sauce really. I am really impressed by the amount of quests you can do!

FFXIV: ARR is truly one of the greatest comebacks in gaming history. Not a day hasn’t gone by I have not logged onto it.

Giuseppe, if you don’t mind me asking. I read a couple interviews that Yoshi-P had at his last event and every interviewer pretty much left out asking what would be considered vital information to Ninja, which is definitely one of the most popular and requested questions. I feel that 2.4 is close enough that he would be a tad more open with it. Were interviewers given a warning about asking about it or did interviewers just not bother asking?
