Heavenly Sword Developer Ninja Theory Working on Disney Infinity 2.0; Star Wars Teased (UPDATED)

During the Giant Bomb panel at PAX Prime a fairly surprising announcement was made by Disney Infinity Executive Producer John Vignocchi: DmC and Heavenly Sword developer Ninja Theory is working for Disney Interactive Studios on Disney Infinity 2.0.

The veteran hack and slash developer is creating a few different characters including Green Goblin, Ronan the Accuser, Princess Jasmine and Loki.

During our interview recorded at Gamescom, Product Development Ninja Dominic Matthews revealed that the studio was working on other projects commissioned by publishers besides its own game Hellblade, and quite evidently Disney Infinity 2.0 is one of those.

Disney Infinity 2.0 Edition will be released on September 23rd for  PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, Xbox One and iOS.

Update: Close to the end of the panel Vignocchi was also asked if there will be a Disney Infinity 3.0 featuring Star Wars, and he answered “It’s not so far far away,” which can definitely be interpreted as a tease for the future.

  • I’d rather EA contract them to make The Force Unleashed 3 than Disney do it for Infinity 3.0, to be honest. Ninja Theory gets deep, satisfying and flashy combat better than LucasArts ever did… and they’re so far ahead of the old LucasArts* in terms of storytelling, they’re not even in the same galaxy. If anyone can – and should – wrap up Starkiller’s story in video gaming, it’s Ninja Theory.

    * – old meaning the Xbox 360-era goons who mismanaged the studio into oblivion. Not 90’s and 80’s Ron Gilbert/Tim Schafer old, you know. It’s impossible to knock the storytelling in LA’s classic games, because they did it right back then.

Was that really a thing? Was NT ever in the works for The Force Unleashed 3?

More excited for this than I should be – the first was a rough gem, but a gem none the less. Deserves everything that is being thrown it’s way, has the foundation of an awesome game hidden away there.
