Sony Will Hold Another PlayStation Press Conference on September 17th

We just finished watching Sony Computer Entertainment’s press conference for the Japanese market, but during the event the new SCEJA President Atsushi Morita announced that the Asian branch of the house of PlayStation isn’t done yet.

Another press conference will be held on September the 17th, and will be focused on the Asian market. No further details were given, but if last year is any indication, it’s most probable that this one will be livestreamed as well.

Will Sony finally announce The Last Guardian for PS4?

Ok, put those rotten tomatoes away… I was just kidding.

Jesus! Definitely big news for Asian gamers. Just have to wonder what else they will announce.

    • MrSec84 .

Well a lot of what was announced today appears to be from 2nd or 3rd party partners, very little Sony Japan Studio stuff was announced, save for the release date of Bloodborne in Japan.
The studio must be saving what it will have ready for early next year.

Polyphony Digital could show Gran Turismo 7, it’s been announced but we haven’t seen any gameplay yet.

      • Duke

That’s actually quite a good point. Note Bloodborne is also a 2nd party title since Sony don’t own the studio that are developing it, they are just producing and funding it. Sony Japan is actually about 5 or so different teams and with one of them (Team Ico) developing The Last Guardian. It will be interesting to see what that have coming internally. A Gravity Rush 2 announcement must surely be made. Maybe even a Dark Cloud 3 (or Dark Chronicle 2) announcement (I would wet myself with joy).

I could see Polyphony possibly making the GT7 announcement but it could take away some focus from DriveClub which releases next month which Sony might avoid.

        • Orichalon Hades

Dark Cloud 3 + GT 7 would put the final nail on the X1 chances to thrive on Japan.

          • Duke

I remember reading an article not long ago about Sony re-registering the trademark for Dark Cloud/Chronicle. Considering that Dark Cloud 2 came out in 2002, it seemed very much out of the ordinary. So it could be a hint of something to come (fingers crossed) and GT7 would be a massive system seller. I remember the huge boost GT5 gave to the PS3 and with it being the best selling PS3 exclusive, it would definitely be a big one, even though we know it’s coming.

          • Orichalon Hades

oh yea i saw that news too.
Also, we’re forgetting that CC2 is making a game for PS4 that hasn’t been announced yet today, so its probably on TGS.

          • MrSec84 .

            Who are CC2?
What games have they made in the past?

          • Duke

I think it’s CyberConnect 2, they made Asura’s Wrath but are pretty much best known for the Naruto games.

          • Orichalon Hades

best known for the .Hack series *

            fix’d that for ya

          • Duke

            haha well both.

          • MrSec84 .

Cool, I wonder what that game will be.
Hopefully decent number of the games announced today will get localized to the west.

          • MrSec84 .

Back in the PS2 days GT3 sold like 15 million units, it was a massive system seller.

I can see PS4 selling as well as PS2 at this rate, especially with all of the awesome games Sony are announcing.

Here’s an article about the Dark Chronicle trademark made recently:

          • Duke

I wouldn’t say that PS4 will sell as much as PS2, purely because that console had so much going for it. Backwards compatibility, inbuilt DVD player, very cheap, weak competition and more. But it will sell quite well.

          • MrSec84 .

I said that about sales because even without any major exclusives the platforms selling like hotcakes.

PS4 has a tonne of stuff going for it.
Unlike the PS2 it’s more powerful than the competitions hardware (PS2 was weaker than GC and XB), has very good online capabilities and an awesome controller.

From a cost POV PS2 was released for the same price as Xbox, Gamecube was about half the price.

PS4 is very well priced, but the platform can only get cheaper as time goes on, it’s not expensive by any means right now, especially compared to the competition.

PS4 has a Bluray player and very good online capabilities.

Right now the sales have come from the PS brand, hardware capabilities and cost.
The software isn’t as strong as it will be next year, so right now we’ve only seen a taste of how well PS4 is going to sell.

Another important factor is that the PS Plus line-up gives gamers titles for free, which PS2 didn’t have and those games are only going to improve as the library of software available on the platform improves.

Backwards compatibility isn’t really a major factor, if it was Wii U would have been selling much better than it has.

        • MrSec84 .

I only mentioned Bloodborne in the same category as 1st party as that’s how Sony sees it, I think it’s because Sony Japan has their hand in the game’s development, but yeah it’s mainly being developed by From Software and they’re not 1st party.

Yeah Sony Japan are Sony’s biggest studio, so they must have a lot going on behind the scenes.

Dark Chronicle was re-trademarked pretty recently (I think it was just before E3 this year), so that could be something Sony announces at TGS.

Good point about GT7, but the game’s already been announced by Kaz Yamauchi (he’s spoken about it quite a bit this year), showing gameplay could take the focus away from Driveclub as you say, but if it’s not releasing until say the holidays next year people would still have a decent reason to buy Driveclub as it’s the only racing game exclusive coming from any of Sony’s 1st party studios.
Driveclub fits a more arcade style than GT, with the whole social side of things being the main focus of the game, so they’re targeted at a different audience of gamers.

We could even see something like a Knack style title announced by one of SCEJ’s teams, you know a cartoony platformer, those kinds of games are a bit thin on ground right now.

It’s not a 1st party development, but the PS Blog says that gameplay for Ratchet & Clank will be shown this fall, I guess Fall doesn’t start until like the 22nd of September, maybe TGS could be where that’s shown for the 1st time.

It’s possible Guerrilla’s Games new IP could be announced, or maybe even something from Media Molecule.

Sony has so many 1st party studios that are yet to announce anything for PS4, so anything could happen.

TLG may be unlikely after what Yoshida said recently.

          • someguy

Jesus ! Being on the Sony side is too damn juicy i cant contain myself !

      • Oddsock

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, what I was thinking too. We are probably gonna get a Gravity Rush 2 announcement along with maybe 1 more new PS4 game from Japan Studio. And maybe even a Knack 2 teaser 😛

    • megablast16

Probably just obscure, Asian focused games that will never reach the west.

      • Orichalon Hades

Asian version of games is usually English/Chinese (mainly english)
soooo even if its never released officially on the west you can still import it.

        • megablast16

My bad, never “officially” reach the west.

  • Orichalon Hades

    “Asian Market”

    as in China?

    • Giuseppe Nelva

No. China is separate from the “Asia” region for Sony.

      • Orichalon Hades

        Huh. Never knew that.
so its probably for ASEAN then (Singapore, Malaysia and the like)

      • Jecht_Sin

SCEC then? It will be interesting to see what will come out from that. It seems there are quite few things boiling under the hood. hey, you could make a report!! ^_^

        • MrSec84 .

I wouldn’t be shocked if Sony takes that as a separate market entirely, as you say SCEC.
Can definitely see Sony investing in at least a couple of dedicated Chinese studios for that specific market.
Maybe for starters they’ll arrange 2nd party deals with studios that are already present in China.

I wonder what kinds of games Sony will make for that market.
Besides free 2 play I’m not sure what sorts of titles do well over there.

          • Jecht_Sin

I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be some co-development of titles. Something like Bloodborne, with both From Software and Japan Studio working on it. And I usually say.. I am looking forward for some C-RPG!! Hopefully. ^_^

      • Homer Ruglia Beoulve

If they are targeting to have a big market here in Asia, then they have to conquer the MMORPG and MOBA market here first.

One more thing that makes me think The Last Guardian comes out summer 2015:
basically so far Sony has 3 real system sellers (announced) – The Order, Bloodborne (both come out in February, March) and Uncharted 4 (I bet November).
Also we know about smaller games that are going to be awesome but aren’t system sellers – Until Dawn and Tearaway Unfolded are confirmed for 2015
But summer seems relatively empty – so I believe TLG will come out July or August 2015

    • Jason Brody

You can also add Persona 5, Dragon Quest Heroes, Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy IV, Silent Hills, Yakuza 0, Metal Gear Solid V, Grand Turismo 7, and Disgaea 5 to that list. Those games are sure to pick up sales in Japan, if that doesn’t do the trick I don’t know what will. With that said Sony still has 2 more conferences.

      • lol…Kingdom Hearts and FF15 definitely not hitting next year. This is SE we’re talking about here. I think they will have FF:Type 0 ready for 2015 though, also Sony announced a new Hot Shots Golf, it’s pretty popular over there. Can’t wait till TGS. Hoping Capcom and Sega show some more support with there franchises and Sony gives up some hype for the following year.

    • truthtellerdealwithit

I want to believe you so bad 😛

    • megablast16

      I admire your optimism but I don’t think so. : (

    • Oddsock

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you forgot one very important game: Ratchet And Clank for PS4.

Also, I feel like Sony is gonna have another big holiday title alongside Uncharted 4, or if U4 gets released in Feb. 2016. It might be the Syphon Filter reboot, maybe Kill Strain announced at next E3 for release next holiday 2015, just my guesses.

      • MrSec84 .

I’m pretty sure Jim Ryan said Uncharted 4 was coming early next year, well it was in the videos shown at the start of Sony’s Gamescom conference and he said all of their 1st party games shown were coming in the next 6 months.

I doubt U4 would get pushed back for 2016, by this November it will have been in development longer than any past Uncharted game.

“Another press conference will be held on September the 17th, and will be focused on the Asian market”

this one wasn’t focused on the asian market? :s

    • Redinferno124

It’s like Luffy’s jet gattling technique, it wont stop until it’s he’s made sure you’re down for the count.

Sony is probably making up for the lack of Japanese software announcements since November.

    • This was Japan specific…

  • RealityCheck2013

MORE??? STOP IT NOW SONY!!! Your making the rest look BAD! LoL:D

  • Young Franky

The same day Gta 5 came out hopefully they didnt forget about that special perk the Ps4 players get.

    • Francis Jairam

I REALLY hope that GTA 5 gets shown for real this time.

  • Young Franky

Lol smh all i heard this year from the X-Twats was “Sony has no games, they cant afford any exclusives”. Guess what Xbox isnt even having a conference but they’re showcasing the Japanese market with 1yr old games thats already released in the US nd Jap celebrities.

    • MrSec84 .

Yep, that’s all I saw over the internet.
Even though I knew it was ridiculous, it’s become clear how hilarious that was now.
What’s even more funny is that Sony still has a tonne of stuff to announce.
I mean we still haven’t got much of a picture of what Sony Japan are really up to, by which I mean internally for PS4.

Gran Turismo 7 has been announced, likely releasing next year, but we haven’t seen any gameplay.

Santa Monica have only teased about making a new game with their recent video showing off their new studio tour.
Sony Bend, London, Guerrilla Games and Media Molecule have new IPs in development.
Naughty Dog are working on something separate from Uncharted 4.

Guerrilla Cambridge are working on an existing IP.

Sucker Punch finished Infamous months ago and have enough staff to be well into production on their 2nd PS4 title.

Quantic Dream already announced that they have a new IP in the works for PS4, but nothing’s known about it.

There are also smaller studios like Foster City, Firesprite (a new 1st party dev made up of old Liverpool Studio staff).

Insomniac are known to be working on Ratchet and Clank for PS4, so that’s still got to be shown, happening this fall according to the PS Blog.

It really is a very exciting time to be a PS4 owner.

Are you SkinnyAssGamer or GodGamingDerp? Just asking.

        • MrSec84 .

          No, why do you ask?

          • GameDev345

Because he is a fanboy who wants to know why you are supporting sony with actual facts

Bascially SkinnyAssGamer and the other one are actual sony fanboy trolls who do more damage in comment sections than good

      • Young Franky

Wel put also it seems to me being that Sony having they’re own dev studios reeally pays off in the long run.

      • Jecht_Sin

        He is right.

Xbox is an American company, why on earth would they be interested in Japan.

Personally I have no interested in the Japanese market or Japanese games. They are not for me.

So if they are having another conference for more Japanese games, I’m sure that is great for the locals but of very little interest to the rest of the world.

I bought an Xbox One when it release but only bought a PS4 a week ago mainly for bloodborn, and Drive Club.

I like it, it’s good but the Xbox One is my main console predominately because it ties all my stuff together and I have more games for it at the moment.

Oh and by the way, calling a person who bought an Xbox One an X-Twat is childish, I’m sure you would object to e referring to you as a PS-Cunt (See how offensive that is!) think before you type.

We may see Final Fantasy XV here. Was gutted it didn’t appear, but either way for christ sake Sony is on a role, honestly all I see in comments like ‘sony has games and is rubbish blah blah blah’ I just see plain jealousy.

They will drop huge pile of cash on top of Activision and get Crash… back (cashback?) 😛

    • Faafeu Kapeneta

It will be game over for both MS and Nintendo, yeap Nintendo, why? Crash Bandicoot trilogy was bigger then Mario during its run, Yeap outsold that Italian plumber in Japan. MS may have Halo but if Crash gets announced, system seller and it will be PS2 days all over again.

      • Kids bought into crash mostly. Kids of today don’t give a crap about Crash, and wouldn’t if he suddenly re-materialised. 3d platforming isn’t as big as it used to be/they have a lot of other conpetent games to compete with.

There is no reason to think Crash would do that well at all.

  • superkarma

Damn…2 press conferences + whatever they announce at TGS. Sony is killing it. Keep it up 🙂

  • Jerry Hu

No, they will announce the Chinese version for games.

    • Giuseppe Nelva

Unlikely since for Sony China isn’t part of Asia, at least market-wise. Just like Australia is part of Europe 😀

      • Jerry Hu

Asia have HK and TW. So it will announce the Chinese version games for Asian.

  • jujubee88

Did SCEJA announce anything new last time? All I remember is they revealed PSVITA TV last year, then they re-revealed it in the Asia stream by also giving it a launch date in HK (or something along those lines).

If I had to guess, the new stream will just be in a smaller setting with SCEJA execs from the SCE Asian market (China or something) going over what was covered but giving it a spin or marking towards the Asian gaming community.

  • Hey Sony, the key is in ‘JRPG’ ..and non of that fanservice BS please.
