Gran Turismo 7 For PS4 Might Debut at PlayStation Experience

Today Gran Turismo 6 won a Gold Prize at the PlayStation Awards for selling more than 500,000 copies in Japan, but something was missing.

To be more precise, “someone” was missing. When the award was announced, everyone expected the series’ creator Kazunori Yamauchi to appear on the stage, but he didn’t. On his place, a trio of developers spearheaded by Lead Engineer Shuichi Takano accepted the award.

Takano-san mentioned in his acceptance speech that Yamauchi-san couldn’t be present, and while he did not give any detail, there’s one quite likely reason for his absence.

The only cause that come to mind is that Yamauchi-san might be in Vegas, getting ready to officially showcase Grand Turismo 7 for PlayStation 4 at PlayStation Experience.

Of course we have no way to know if that’s really the case, but there aren’t many other likely reasons coming to mind for Yamauchi-san to be absent while his team receives one of the most prestigious prizes within the Japanese gaming industry.

We’ll probably know in a couple of days whether I saw correctly through Sony’s ploy or not. In the meanwhile Takano-san also explained that the team wants to meet expectations with its next game on PS4.

      Driveclub’s better than GT

      • its fun and the graphics are fantastic but the game is still broken

you didn’t make a video on how XBL was attacked and most media sites chose to ignore it instead of reporting like they always do with PSN
      What gives? you on vacation?

      • CervantesPR

My last video was about XBL being down lol

        • Monokuma

but this weekend it was attacked and went down all night

it being down for a day isn’t really news worthy.

          • Dikan45

PSN goes down for longer than an hour and it gets numerous articles

Neither one is news worthy. Happy?

            so?

            More affected = more newsworthy.

      • IncognitosX

You certainly can’t claim bias in this case… they seem to be all over the place when it comes to news. Not that I’m complaining, I guess they can’t be on top of everything. The kids must be on Christmas vacation or something because the troll traffic seems to have died off considerably lately…can’t say that I miss it but it’s definitely less entertaining.

Honestly GT has always sucked online so meh. Single player is good but has become really stale and repetitive. I’m more interested in Project Cars.

  • Brian Murphy

    Yessssssssssssssssss! Please make it so!

  • Dikan45

Unless GT7 is COMPLETELY revamped from the ground up then it won’t even be on my radar, 700 lame japanese family cars with names like cappuccino and engine sounds from last last last gen that can’t even do 100mph do not make a fun game imo

    • John Doe

      Everything you stated is false:

-GT doesn’t have 700 Japanese only cars.
-The reason why many cars have old car models and sounds is because the car models are kept from the time period in which they were added to the game. This keeps it realistic and fun for car enthusiasts and collectors.
-Gran Turismo features more cars and tracks than any other game and it would take YEARS to include every car model and sounds for 1000 cars dating back to 1990. You ask the impossible. It’s like crying because Polyphony doesn’t include every racing track in the world.
-Gran Turismo features more premium cars than any other game, and more recent car models than any other game, so your complaint doesn’t make sense.
      – Your complaint about cars that do 100mph doesn’t make sense because GT also features the fastest cars in the world. So why are you blaming Polyphony when you’re the one who chose to drive the slower cars?
      – Your complaint doesn’t make sense because fast cars are fun after you earn them. There must be slow cars to compare fast cars to. A game that only features 100 of the fastest in the world that all do roughly 200-250 mph, doesn’t provide enough variety or fun in my opinion.

I think you’re just an idiotic troll that is simply desperately trying to find something to b*tch about in the greatest racing sim of all time.

The legitimate thing I have against GT, is that Polyphony needs to bring back in depth car customization. GT is a massive racing game with a ton of content and it takes a long time to include EVERY feature you want.

      • Dikan45

Soz mush but I aint reading all that so you’ve wasted your soap box but I’ll ask this , How many slow Japanese family cars are in the game? How many hours of commuting er I mean ‘racing'(ie driving on your own) does it take until you get any decent cars? Why bother putting the Top gear track in the game and then not let us drive the reasonably priced car from the show? I think you’re a butthurt sony fanboy who leaps to defend their honour any chance you get(online only of course as you’d never dream of mouthing off to someone to their face) You’re trying TOO hard!! It looks foolish!

        • KingLOL

Good never read what John Doe writes.

          • Dikan45

I don’t need to read it, it’s obvious what he’ll be saying, so tragically predictable!

        • R.

I like to be able to race everyday cars as well as supercars. I can relate more to the everyday cars. That as well as the physics is what makes it way better than forza and the like.

        • Tyler

Dikan, have you ever considered the possibility that other people have different opinions to yours? For example, even though you don’t like the game, other people do. It’s pretty important to understand that your personal opinion isn’t the be-all and end-all, hopefully you’ll get there one day.

          • Dikan45

I never claimed it was numpty

          • Perhizzle

            Here is what you said

“i have never even come close to finishing a GT game” You sound impatient. IE you need flashy lights and more unrealistic expectations, like they have in Need For Speed or other more arcadish games.

“I lose interest around 8 hours” Once again impatient. Also, it shouldn’t take you that long before getting a car that is reasonably fast in GT. Maybe a realistic driving sim isn’t for you. Once again, pointing you to Need For Speed. Although, i would recommend the Burnout series if you want a fun arcade game that isn’t realistic.

You need to realize, that a lot of the things you don’t like about GT, are exactly why it has become such a wildly popular game. Those slow cars that you hate, force people to learn how to actually drive well, rather than just have a faster car. Especially in the beginning when you often times have the same exact car, or slower, than the rest of the competition. It also allows natural progression, as in, not everyone is an expert right away. But after building up to faster cars, it becomes very intuitive to transfer to a newer, faster car.

Being forced to start off with a used car, or what you keep calling a “family” car, also pays homage to a very large segment of racing enthusiasts who race their home made track cars every week. The point is, you don’t need a 6 figure priced car to have fun, and those people shouldn’t be insulted for enjoying their self built toys, or enjoying a game that allows people to share in that experience if perhaps they don’t have the time or money to make one of their own.

        • Perhizzle

Having to start out with slower cars is the entire point. You have to earn the right to build up to faster cars. It’s a racing and car enthusiasts game. Not everyone just wants fast cars only. If that’s what you want, them go back to need for speed.

          • Dikan45

            NO

      • MVM

Stop being such a fanboy. He’s right. GT does needs to be revamped from the ground up. I’ve been playing GT since the first one and it’s gotten really mundane.

      • Masteroperator

is there really that many people that need or want to have 5 different versions of some toyota or honda from 1985?

    • MVM

I completely agree man. GT5 and GT6 were a complete copy and paste bore fest.

      • Dikan45

Hopefully Kaz has seen the error of his ways and will blow us all away with GT7

        • Randall Herskorn ZM

Firstly, I thought the top gear track was fun for just about any cars. But yes, may as well have had a challenge with the reasonably priced car.

Now, for whatever reason, being in the U.S., I like being able to buy, for instance, the 1st gen Eunos Roadster or MX5 instead of the Miata, even though they’re all basically identical. I like having a choice between jdm, edm, usdm, adm, etc. What I like most is i can get the version of the car from the country it was actually made in. But if somebody in england has a euro accord, they can get that car and see how it holds up being raced against various other cars.

But, presumably, aside from making the badges and names different, maybe the wheels, and changing the side the steering wheel and driver are on, it really doesn’t take that much to make these different version of the same car. So I think if they want to keep improving, keep those cars, sure, add them for new models, sure, but the main focus should be on adding performance models and cars with historic significance to motorsports.

Whether that be the Abarth 131 rally car from the 80s, Porsches from the 356 to the 962 or Porsche carrera gt supercar, 919 Hybrid race car, 918, or 959, or Ruf CTR3, 1st & 2nd Gen VW Golf, classic Peugot 205s, my Honda Del Sol WITH the spoiler (hint, hint), maybe a classic saab, Pikes Peak toyota tacoma, any of a slew of Le Mans Legends they’re missing, The Toyota Mk III Eagle, 300zx race cars, chaparral 2c, and other such cars, maybe some legendary Schumacher cars, etc., cars relevant to motorsports history, influentual to popular car segments now, crucial to a brand’s development, or those with personality that have cult followings should be focused on first. If all 19 versions of the 300zx from each year in the late 90’s don’t make the game, we’ll live. Credit for the cars they did add on 6. – Audi Quattro, Ferrari 250, GT3 cars, etc.

Also, focus on getting some premier tracks on the game would be good, they seem to be catching on with european ones, next help us out in the americas. Give us that impressive course maker you hyped up before 6 came out, and we’re not too concerned about what fictional ones you include; we’ll deal with those.

Anyway, let’s not encourage Polyphony to cut stuff; that’s always been a main part of the the game – selection. Let’s just tell them we need to see additions and improvements that make a game worth buying when we already have the previous one. And with 6, I’m not quite sure if I saw enough to make me feel good about my purchase. I’m not upset, just a little empty inside.

          • Dikan45

I can honestly say I’ve never come even close to finishing a GT game and I’ve owned them all apart from 6, I just lose interest after around 8 hours of soul less slow lonely races that just aren’t fun, even with my logitech wheel set up. If they had some cheats to make me progress quicker I’d have stuck with them but they never do! I’ve got to give props to people who slog through them to earn the money to buy the top cars

          • R.

This type of game isn’t for you. Some people just love to race and be able to feel how the cars handle and shift weight, and they have the discipline and talent to excel. You see it is surely you that lacks the passion and soul. Stick to games like need for speed or call of duty or something if you have ADD.

          • Dikan45

            OUCH!!

          • R.

Sorry bud, I was a bit overly harsh.

I was almost about to press the trigger on Driveclub as it’s pretty cheap at the moment on PSN. However it would just be a stopgap until gt7. PD do need to make some major improvements though with gt7 imo. Things like the weather system etc. in Driveclub are amazing by all accounts…

          • Dikan45

The series has been out of date since the millenium

          • Prophes1ze

If you like racers forza is where to go gt died like 5 years ago

          • Castor Troy

Do you really believe that spreadin this nonsence will make people, go and buy a shitty x-one? Are you really that dense??

          • bardock5151

Reusing assets from the PS2 is not top quality. Having 3/4 of your car list in the “poverty line” is not top quality. GT was great until 5, it sold very well off the back of 4 Imo.

          • Monokuma

all forza games reuse assets from previous games.

          • bardock5151

Yes it does. Forza has assets from the generation they’re building it for, GT reuses assets from the PS2 days.

          • Monokuma

seeing as how there was only one on the OG..

          • bardock5151

I don’t see how that excuses polyphony? A 1/3 of an upgrade for a full release is pretty bad.

        • Castor Troy

bitter cuzz you don’t have anything to play on your x-shit one and you have to come and comment on one of the best selling franchise, that si not milked every year like Fliorza!

Lmao forza wipes the wipes the floor with these easily

          • RyTeOuS

          • RyTeOuS

          • Castor Troy

keep the bitternes, it’s amazing trol!

      • Kazuhira Miller

How did the last one score?

        • Fetch > Delsin

more than forza 5 actually. check metatric.

        • Craig Sloan

          GT 6 – 81
          Forza 5 – 79

Those are the Metacritic ratings for the last two installments in the franchises. So the “worst” GT is rated better than the “best” Forza yup sounds about right to me.

          • Prophes1ze

Last installment is forza horizon you goose and it’s 87 on metacritic. It should have been 95 atleast and it raped the last gran turismo and all of them put together to be honest lmao what a idiot completely forgets a game haha

          • Craig Sloan

Those are different series, Why do you think one is called Forza V and the Other Forza Horizon 2? Now I know thinking might hurt your brain but try it for once. Different game franchises, One is a closed circuit racer and the other is an open world racer. Thus you don’t compare open world with closed circuit, Idiot.

          • Prophes1ze

Racer vs racer so what there’s not many racers you have to compare them all and forza horizon destroys everything else in the racing genre

        • Castor Troy

          Better than youр mom! 😉

It was a bad idea to release the game at the same time with the PS4 launch. Everyone was telling Polyphony to cancel the game and re-do it for PS4 but well they didnt listen. Anyway Im looking forward to this one, excited to see what they are going to do with a more powerful and easy to develop console, the ps3 was so hard to work with.

      • DrGhettoblaster

Yeah i know, I remember GT5 taking forever to come out, then it was like next thing ya know, here’s GT6. That was very strange and felt rushed.

    Speculation

  • Jimmy DoneGood

Polyphony digital will have a tough mountain to climb to even come close to Forza. GT6 was a failure.

  • Neno Albert

GT must be on the verge of being announced. I am shocked that it hasn’t happened yet, but understand it in retrospect. The series major shortcoming has been the hype. In reality, the series has been nothing short of amazing! For a mainstream simulator, nothing touches it as of yet. Project Cars will be pretty exciting to try out, but GT has been a great challenge without all the fine tuning of an intense simulator.

I keep hearing Forza and that’s fine by me. The handling is too washed down for my taste. Ultimately, I turned a blind eye to it when the forgiveness reached level 99 – rewind feature. That’s a sure fire way of firmly crushing the possibility of it even remotely being a simulator. Then the developers blatantly say it hasn’t ever been the intention.

If you’re comparing Forza to GT, then you’re a delusional fanboy who wants to argue or claim superiority. Just because both have cars doesn’t mean they’re both the same beast. I can spend days on one track with the same car just dialing in my turn-in and apex approach. It’s definitely not entirely perfect, but that’s what iRacing is there for.

I really hope that team Polyphony is there with the announcement! I don’t care about waiting (buy me the opportunity to gain Logitech wheel support!), but am anxious to see what this iteration will bring.

    • Prophes1ze

Haha some wake this delusional pony up. You can turn off all assists and rewind you do know that don’t you? Forza is miles and miles ahead of gt forza took over gt when it came out. Forza horizon is ranked the best racing game ever for 99% people who played it. Hold onto your dreams sony is going to release a anther broken gt and add it onto their mediocre exclusives list. Enjoy

I love the GT series, I really do. Have had 2-6 and enjoyed playing them. Three TOP Priorities for GT7 though. 1) Damage Engine 2) AI improvements 3) Enhanced Car Customization Studio. I do not have an Xbox and probably will never get one but I have seen first hand what the Forza franchise has done and would love to see some of these features within GT7. I work for a large global company and I directly interface with R&D engineers. I understand what it takes to create a product, test it, fix it, test it again (repeat), and then finally get it into the market, then support the product to its end of lifecycle. It’s an incredible amount of heart and soul that goes into that effort. I am hopeful that GT7 will incorporate the 3 items above and blow us all away on PS4
