Gamescom Awards 2016 Announced With New Categories

Today the Digitale Spielekultur Foundation,  that organizes the Gamescom Awards every year at the popular trade show in Cologne, sent in a press release announcing this year’s edition of the awards.

The submission phase for developers and publishers will begin on June 1st, and this year there are new ccategories. Below is a full list:

gamescom global awards category group
•       gamescom award for the best expansion (only expansion)
•       gamescom award for the best preview/vision (only preview/vision)

Indie award category group
•       gamescom indie award (only games)

These are the additional categories of the gamescom award:

Console category group (only games; no expansions or preview/visions)
•       Best Console Game Sony Playstation 4
•       Best Console Game Microsoft Xbox One
•       Best Console Game Nintendo WiiU

Genre category group (only games; no expansions or preview/visions)
•       Best Role Playing Game
•       Best Racing Game
•       Best Action Game
•       Best Simulation Game
•       Best Sports Game
•       Best Family Game
•       Best Strategy Game

PC / Mobile / Online category group (only games; no expansions or preview/visions)
•       Best PC Game
•       Best Mobile Game (including handheld, iOS, Android, Windows)
•       Best Social / Casual / Online Game
•       Best Online Multiplayer Game
•       Best Hardware incl. Peripheral (only products)

Consumer category group award
•       gamescom “Most Wanted” consumer award (only games/products)

Best of gamescom category group
•       Best of gamescom award (only games or products; no expansions or preview/visions)

Most of the awards, excluding the “Most Wanted” consumer award, are voted by a jury of representatives of German and international media and social media companies, as well as of gaming communities.

This year Gamescom will start on August 17th, and will end on August 21st, and of course you can expect yours truly to be on the show floor to destroy another pair of shoes.
