Uncharted 4’s Stress Test Represents Roughly 20% of the Full Game’s Multiplayer Content

During a livestream hosted by Naughty Dog, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Programmer Edward Pereira and Game Designer Vinit Agarwal gave more information about the stress test and on what you can expect from the full game, that will be released on May 10th exclusively for PS4.

  • Naughty Dog initially considered locking a certain class to each character, but then they discarded the idea, letting players play any role they want with any character.
  • In case you were wondering, we got confirmation that Nathan and Elena don’t have any kids at the time of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
  • Naughty Dog hasn’t decided yet what you can unlock for the multiplayer by playing the single player campaign. For now most of the unlocks come from multiplayer.
  • There won’t be a PC version (yeah duh. One of the hosts actually asked that).
  • The content of the stress test represents roughly 20% of what will be included in the multiplayer part of the game, even if it’s hard to give an exact number.
  • There are a lot more changes in the latest build that Naughty Dog has in the office compared to the stress test build.

Looks like we’re in for a lot more multiplayer content on May 10th. I have to say that, while I royally suck at it, I found it very satisfying and fun to play, so I’m looking forward to it.

The multiplayer is alot of fun cant wait for the full release but is weird im usually not that great in multiplayer games but in this one i finished first on almost every match i played maybe its beacuse theres alot of people who didnt play the last beta but for some reason i felt it was very easy

    • sawao_yama

Lots of new people who probably never played the mp on these games. Finished first on all my matches too lol.

      • crash bandicoot

Yeah i hope thay find a way to fix that cuase other than that everything was perfect for me

        • PorHawj2016

lol i bet Elena will let Nate know that she is pregnant in Uncharted 4 that he won’t let anyone hurt her or kidnap her

      • Manuel Molina

Sounds like Day 1 Black Ops 2 on PS3.

    • Greatness Awaits PS4

I average around 15 kills and less than 6 deaths a match. I think there’s a lot of people that never played Uncharted’s multiplayer before that just suck.

      • PorHawj2016

very nice job. lol i don’t know which one is you while i playing with you on team or against your team to kill you. lol

        • TheKlot

          huh?

    • Kelborne

I think it was mostly because people seemed to forget or just not care about the store items.

    • gRammarnazi

Well that’s usually a sign you’ve found the right MP game for you.

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

      me too

  • Senpai Gundam

After adjusting to the speed and controls, I did pretty well for myself. Mystics and support characters were a great addition, and I seriously enjoyed the increased verticality.

  • NasIsLike

Great MP maps are rare these days in MP games… COD maps are absolutely, pure and utter garbage. And that’s coming from an ex COD fan who eventually gave up on COD after BO2. BO3 supposedly is “better than the last couple of COD’s and a return to form”, no. Just no. Yet again, they have forgot to make maps that serve the gameplay. No thought or anything put into them to increase the fun (which also is a major lacking part in many big modern MP games)…
Naughty Dog however has always been good at it: Uncharted 2 and Last of Us maps are classics IMO and U4 seems to nail it too! :)

Ps. Sorry for the rant lol. Happens everytime when I’m talking about something Activision related… Can’t help it. Also can’t wait for this game… And Batman V Superman! HYPE!

  • http://www.thealephnullsaga.com/ Jeremiah Locanas

How many maps were in the beta, if it’s 20% of the full game release?

    • Orko

3 maps in the stress test. So at the 20% of full game comment, that would mean appx 15 maps total in full game. Those are good numbers!!

      • http://www.thealephnullsaga.com/ Jeremiah Locanas

        cool, thanks!

      • Adavanter Mki

Thanks to you both. Lazy me wondered these exact things.

      • extermin8or2

that fits in past games there’s been about 6 or 7 maps on release then coop content so that seems about right.

    • Victor Lavon Richardson

Why are you guys instantly jumping to the number of MP maps?
Doesn’t this include customization options, weapons, characters, etc

      • Soda Popinski

It’s simple math, that’s why. If “The content of the stress test represents roughly 20% of what will be included in the multiplayer part of the game”, then you can roughly take all the stress test content (20%) and times it by 5 (100%).

        • Victor Lavon Richardson

So if the beta had 3 maps we can expect 15 because you multiplied a vague, general percentage by 5 without actually calculating how much percentage of that 20% the maps actually take up?
You have to keep in mind that there are more game modes, characters, dozens of appearance options, emotes, etc that make up the total content but not the same equal amount of it. It could be the case that only 8 maps are in the full game but hundreds of appearance options and other unlocks.

        • Ineeda Showa

I dont believe its that simple of math, if they meant for it to be 20% of maps in the stress test they would have said that. Rather it is 20% of the full games content, which could mean 6 more maps, 8 more characters, 10 more guns, etc That will equal that remaining 80%. The exact numbers are anyones guess. Cant just assume that they were speaking about maps and that there will be 5x more when the game is released which i doubt there would be.Hell even the 20% is just a guess from the devs and not an exact.

          • Sahajpreet

Yeah if we go by his math then that would mean their will be 50 playable characters in total!!

  • StarTsurugi

Never figured out how to charge the melee hook in MP.

    • rllintrllin

      Hold L1

      • StarTsurugi

Thanks. In this game, it took me like a half a match to figure out that triangle was reload.

        • Sahajpreet

          It took my 3 matches….

          • StarTsurugi

Yeah. And I just came off Uncharted 1 on PS3

  • Karan Minhas

Everything looks awesome, except matchmaking, hope they fix it…

    • PlaystationFan

There is nothing wrong with MP works fine , I guess you ain’t use to it that’s all

      • rllintrllin

No, there were matchmaking issues. A lot of disconnects, freezes, trouble finding matches. But i’ve encountered them mostly when I was in a party of 4-5. Which is fine because its to be expected.

    • Vergil Reinhardt

That’s kinda the point of the stress test, to find and fix these issues before launch 😛

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

      matchmaking was fast

  • Brandon

Just finished playing, and it was really good. I only played a little bit on uncharted 2 mp, so this was a fresh surprise.

  • PlaystationFan

As this being the last one coming to PS4 I hope down the line they add the whole collection on PC would get a better Graphical game and fps over my PS4

    • BlackestNight63

Who said its the last one to ps4? All they say is it’s the last Nathan Drake uncharted. Sony can make a spinoff/sequel with someone else if they wanted.

      • Vergil Reinhardt

They won’t hit PC at all, never mind anytime soon.

        • BlackestNight63

You can with kinda do it with remote play but not really

          • Greatness Awaits PS4

But you will still need a PS4 to do that, so that’s a pointless option for someone without a PS4.

          • BlackestNight63

Didn’t you read kinda but not really? Thx.

        • TrumpUSA

Of course it won’t, that’s not a Xbox game.

          • miyamoto

            lol!

          • Vergil Reinhardt

            sick burn

    • TrumpUSA

LOL, look at the pc beggar.

    • crash bandicoot

      Yeah makes sense

    • Carl

Why keep begging for Uncharted 4 PC port, mate? You either buy a PS4 or watch others play it through Twitch, there is no alternative. No Uncharted will come to PC ever. Or at least for another 20 years or so.

    • Daniel Gonzalez

Perhps through remote play, but it will never officially release on PC. Lol. Not sure why you’re holding out hope for something that will never happen.

      • Sahajpreet

You still need a ps4 for pc remote play

        • Daniel Gonzalez

That’s the point of my comment. Lol. You can’t play it natively.

  • extermin8or2

I’m just waiting for the coop after the past games coop has been great, i particularly hope they bring back the horde mode from uncharted 2- was so much fun

  • I3ordo

I hope they add a radar like in destiny, as i dont like my recently owned enemies sprinting in from flank.

  • Intentions

Uncharted 4 mp is easy, and i havent played any uncharted mp before.

  • James

Someone was stalking my GAF post!

  • Haralson

I’m glad the sprint button is gone

    • TheKlot

      why?

      • Ahmed Almatari

The sprint button was used too much back in uncharted 3 mp which messed up ps3 controllers, and everybody was just running every where around the map like headless chickens.

        • TheKlot

I see… then I agree with you all. I do think this beta was a lot more fun than the previous versions of Uncharted MP matches. Previous versions left a very empty experience.

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

      me too

  • ArchiDeos

Well IMHO MP was great and awesome. I m having a lots of fun especially last night in my Europe Account.. Almost every game I’m at the top. I’ll started playing last friday in my US Account coz Europe is having a problem at that time. US is a blast having no trouble on server. My only request for if it is possible, ND will addd a prone stands and dive to cover like MGS:PP this will be a treat to everyone. Can’t wait to play the SP too..

  • BarNoneFadeAll

Idk how ppl are praising the multiplayer, its shit. Its not as fluid as uncharted 2

    • Necalli Creed

      Opinions

    • J.j. Barrington

Because some people enjoyed it, while others didn’t.

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

UC2 MP is shit. This is so much better.

      • BarNoneFadeAll

No this is shit, uncharted 2 pawns both unch 3 & 4 in story and MP. Yes I said it, story will be trash.

        • Jeffrey Kuhl

I’ll give you UC2’s story over UC3, but you can’t compare it to 4 yet dummy. Besides, UC4’s story will probably trump them all. The masters wrote it instead of Hennig. Anyway, doesn’t matter. I’ve already decided that you’re a dumb@ss.

          • BarNoneFadeAll

I’m not the desperate clown responding to everyone’s post while being offended of any opinions against your own fagg0t.

          • Jeffrey Kuhl

Pretty sure you just responded to being against my opinion little boy. Now run along. I’m too old to be arguing with youngsters. I’m out.

      • J.j. Barrington

See, when you say that, you lose all credibility.

        • Jeffrey Kuhl

You really think 2 is better than 4? No way. Not even a comparison.

          • J.j. Barrington

It sounds like you sucked at 2, so your opinion isn’t worth much with me. As for 4, I haven’t played it yet, so I’m not making that assumption.

But for you to think 2’s multiplayer was crap says more about your inability to play well than anything else.

          • Jeffrey Kuhl

Sounds like childish logic to me, but whatever. It was crap compared to 3 and definitely crap compared to 4. That’s my opinion though. I’m done arguing with youngsters. I’m out.

          • J.j. Barrington

Lol, because “it was crap” is the hallmark of a well-formed, reasonable, and suitably supported opinion by a mature adult.

Phrase do leave. You have contributed only ignorance to this discussion, which is no contribution at all.

  • BarNoneFadeAll

The specials are stupid and annoying, also it’s too much damn clawing your way through the map and the revives make it boring and frustrating. If I snipe anybody they should die right away in the head otherwise what is the point. Also like always naughty dog never knows how to make a multiplayer with spawning. Why the heck would you spawn us all together and the enemy team right behind you smh. I expect a patch at launch just watch, I want it to be enjoyable as 2&3’s.

    • Bob

Uncharted 2’s multiplayer is the definitive version to be honest. When you killed a player they stayed down until they respawned; kills and deaths. There were no special powers, no mini-map with radar, none of that rubbish. The UI was clean and uncluttered. It was straightforward seek and destroy frag matches. Everything felt a lot more smoother and responsive too and the fact that you didn’t know where your enemy was made a typical match a lot more tense and interesting. Kills were the result of proper kills but in Uncharted 4 kills could come from these special powers (like the el dorado statue or whichever it’s called) which don’t really count as a skill based kill. So there’s a lot more diversification in kills where the more casual players can get away with boosting their kills or “down” count through this new feature.

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

UC4 MP is so much better than the previous one’s. You’re alone on this one.

  • Carl

I played a couple of MP matches, it was great. Basic shooter gameplay is fine as always with Uncharted, the rope mechanic is a great addition, but the various perks/boosts will need more time and experience to understand if they are useful or not.

  • Robin Seaman

    Still need co op

    • Big Boss

Uncharted never was a co-op type of game.

  • phar0ahad3

    Yassssssss!!!

  • Janene Schneider

It was a fun weekend. I started getting in the groove on Sunday with my best match being 14, 14, 5. The hunter sidekicks are absolutely terrifying and I screamed like a bitch every time I was chased by one. “Let’sssss beeee friieeeeeennnnndddddssssss…”

    • Sahajpreet

My best match was 19/15. I think that’s the right order. Yeah I was like Tarzan hanging from one side of the map to the next without touching the ground. You gotta be mobile constantly in this game. Island is by far my favorite map yet

  • Ucouldntbemorewrong

I had a whole lot of fun with it, my real big concern was the mystical powers being out of place and chezzy. Happy to report they are not had a blast with MP. Can’t wait to Plat this game! Did take a while sometimes to find a match tho.

  • TraceSkipper

I gave up playing ND games for one reason “Naughty Dog confirmed last night that Uncharted 4’s multiplayer won’t be … Robert Cogburn said: “We’ll still have a host, it’s still peer-to-peer.”.
Uncharted 4 multiplayer won’t have dedicated servers.”

    • https://www.frostyinsights.wordpress.com Fro$ty

It also takes a pretty long time to get a game going compared to most other online shooters, bu it is really fun to play. I had fun with it

      • TraceSkipper

No doubt but after playing for months you wont feel that way.

    • J.j. Barrington

And that was enough to make you give up on their games, entirely?

      • TraceSkipper

I decided that after playing The Last of Us Remaster … it was time to move on.

    • metalman5150

well if we paid 120$ instead of 60$ for console games, then maybe publishers / devs would host deduced servers for pvp, but we don’t and so the dev’s / pub’s won’t maintain dedicated servers.

Besides – and i hope not to offend anyone – but I know I’m not buying UC4 for the MP. I WANT that single player campaign.

      • Ucouldntbemorewrong

SAME! But I will play MP after the SP.

      • TraceSkipper

Battlefield hardline, which i play everyday has servers you can pick and lag isnt an issue.

    • Jeffrey Kuhl

No problems with UC4. Fast hit detection. You have to remember that many more people will be playing UC4 MP.

      • TraceSkipper

Ive played UC2 and UC3 online for months. There are guys that cannot be beaten thanks to P2P.

        • Jeffrey Kuhl

Very true. It really isn’t a fair system. UC4 seems to be very different though. It seemed like anyone could dominate. I hope it stays that way.

  • David Borja

Could they make it 50 instead of 35. The game ends fast most of the time. Well that is just my opinion

    • Sahajpreet

Yeah that’s my opinion too, they could atleast give an option to select the ko limit before starting matchmaking

  • J.j. Barrington

I’m just hoping it’ll turn out to be as addicting as UC2’s was. That’s still one of the best multiplayer experiences I’ve EVER had.

    • Victor Lavon Richardson

The game was really fun from what I’ve played, better than 3

      • J.j. Barrington

Cool. I liked 3, but it just wasn’t as… epic as 2 was, in terms of the multiplayer. I DID like the little dynamic things, like the sandstorm.

        • Jeffrey Kuhl

Don’t agree. UC3 MP had so many more options than UC2 MP. I tried the MP on UC2, but found it boring compared to 3. Just my opinion. UC4 is amazing though. The best by far.

          • J.j. Barrington

I’m on the opposite end. Though I enjoyed 3, I had more fun with the simplicity of the second game’s multiplayer. I didn’t suck at either one, and I had fun with The Lab, but there was just something about 2.

  • TheKlot

I hope they let you change classes during matches. I hate being stuck to one class.

    • Sahajpreet

Uh, yeah you CAN change classes even in the stress test. You gotta pause the game and click loadout selection and select any preset or custom load out and it will be given to you the next time you spawn. You can also select your load out during the waiting period before you spawn by pressing the options button

      • J.j. Barrington

I figured that was there, since it’s been there in previous entries. But since I haven’t played this, I wasn’t sure.

  • H2OMudkip

I’ve been playing Uncharted since 2010 and I am hyped for this game. The stress test was fun and the Mettler was my favorite gun. I felt like the snipers were a little bit too weak. Also the assault rifles need a recoil reduction because they really can’t compete with the other weapons.
