1666: Amsterdam has received a fair amount of news lately. First, the game was revived from development hell following a new trademark filing by developer Ubisoft. A week later, the creator of the title, as well as the Assassin’s Creed series — Patrice Désilets — entered into a settlement agreement with Ubisoft to regain ownership rights of the title. However, even given all the litigation, little-to-nothing was known about the game — until today.

At an event earlier this week, Désilets showcased his currently cancelled project on a build made years ago. According to Désilets, the theme of the game was “to be worse than the devil” allowing players to use black magic-like abilities, like animal possession. 1666: Amsterdam was being built for current-gen consoles when Ubisoft closed down the studio following the disagreement in property ownership.

While the property was just returned to Désilets, he has no announced plans to continue redevelopment. Désilets is currently working with his own studio, Panache Digital Games, to create Ancestors: the Human Kind Odyssey.
