Today, during a livestream from Japan, Square Enix announced the first DLC for its recently-released JRPG NieR: Automata.

The announcement was made by Director Yoko Taro, Producer Yosuke Saito and Designer Takahisa “Ikemen” Taura (apparently, “Ikemen” is now Taura-san’s nickname of sorts. It means “handsome man”).

We’ll get three costumes  from the original NieR. you can see some screenshots  in the gallery below including one that was defined 2B’s “cool angle” in the sexy Kainé costume. They will be released on May 2nd, and the set will be priced at 1,500 yen in Japan.

That’s not all, as new battle content will be included, coming with a new area that can be found behind the mysterious “apologetic machines,” that created a lot of speculation since the release of the game. Past the elevator there will be a new area with a battle arena.

Clearing the arena content will let players unlock various rewards, including costumes and new hair colors.

This arena will be hidden behind the apologetic machines in the flooded city, and more DLC are being planned, hidden behind the other apologetic machines.

Update: if you want to see it in action, you can check out a video here,  with two hilarious guest stars, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda and PlatinumGames CEO Kenichi Sato.

Incidentally, we also learn that the upcoming NieR: Automata concerts will be broadcasted on Nico Nico on May 5th. Tickets for watching online will cost 2,000 yen for one performance, and 3,000 for both.

Another special talk show livestream will be hosted on May 3rd, at 8 PM Japan time, and also livestreamed on Nico Nico, starring Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito.
