Today, developer Impulse Gear and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that their highly-anticipated PlayStation VR game, Farpoint, has gone gold and is on track for release on May 16, 2017. In addition to the gold announcement, the pair also released a new story trailer.
For those that don’t know, “gone gold” or “goes gold” comes from the term “gold master,” which is a version of the game deemed good enough to be shipped to store. So, when a game goes gold, it means development is done, and the game is ready to be sold.
Here’s an overview of Farpoint via Sony:
Farpoint is a riveting VR space adventure set on a hostile alien planet. On a mission to pick up scientists studying an anomaly near Jupiter, a sudden rupture nearby sends you and their station crashing onto an unknown alien world.
Separated from your colleagues, you must use holographic logs scattered throughout the landscape to reunite with the scientists and escape the planet. Explore and discover the secrets of the planet, blasting your way through hordes of indigenous and alien life as you keep moving to survive.
The game notably supports the upcoming PS VR Aim controller and contains a co-op mode that enables you and friend to play online together.
Farpoint will cost $49.99 USD when it launches, or $79.99 USD if you purchase the game and Aim Controller bundle. Below, you can check out the new story trailer:
