Today, developer Lab Zero -- who you may know as the team behind Skullgirls -- released a new speak peak the updated battle UI for its upcoming 2D action RPG: Indivisible. The sneak peak came via the following tweet:

For those that don't know: Indivisible is a 2D action RPG said to be inspired by classics like Super Metroid and Valkyrie Profile, but with the unique character, world, and gameplay depth Lab Zero has become known for.

In the game, you play as Ajna: "a good-natured tomboy with a rebellious streak." Raised by her father on the outskirts of a rural town, Anja was brought up to be fair-minded and tough, and was trained in martial arts so that she might one day defend their home.

When her town is attacked by local warlords, Ajna is said to discover a mysterious power - the power to absorb certain individuals into her being. Furthermore, fusing with these “Incarnations” will not only allow her to summon them into battle, but also grant Ajna new weapons and abilities. Below, you can view the different Incarnations:

Indivisible's thematic core is said to be inspired by Southeast Asian mythology; however, the game is full of lands and characters inspired from a variety of myths and cultures.

Throughout Ajna's journey, she’ll encounter many “Incarnations,” people -- with their own story and personality -- that she can absorb into herself. The more unique Incarnations you find from far away lands the more powerful you will become. Many Incarnations will fight alongside Ajna, and some will also grant her the ability to manifest new weapons and abilities that will help her explore the game’s varied environments.

Gameplay wise, the world of Indivisible is set up as a side-scrolling platformer: where Ajna can run, jump, crouch and dash. Meanwhile, the game's battle system is said to be inspired Valkyrie Profile’s, but with more depth.

For those not familiar with the combat in Valkyrie Profile, each character in your four-person party is mapped to one of the face buttons. Tapping this button will make that character attack. Together, your party is basically one customizable fighting game character that can unleash many different types of combos depending on who you mix and match.

However, unlike Valkyrie Profile, Indivisible’s battles will not be strictly turn-based, but more active, where characters can attack any time they have actions available.

Alongside her ability to absorb people,  Ajna will also discover she can meditate and enter a mysterious dimension growing inside her. This dimension is called the Inner Realm, and it's where Ajna's Incarantions live. The Inner Realm is said to grow and evolve the more powerful Ajna becomes, eventually developing into a safe haven and secret base reminiscent of Ajna’s hometown.

Notably Indivisible will be 20-30 hours long and feature a soundtrack by legendary Japanese game music composer, Hiroki Kikuta.

The game is currently slated to release sometime in 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux. Publishing is being handled by 505 Games. If you want to know more about the game, click here.
