Today, Major Nelson tweeted that the Xbox 360 will be receiving an update that will allow owners to use USB storage as a means to store games, music, saves or whatever that 360 gamer’s heart desires. Just when will this update hit? Hit the jump to find out and more details.

April 6th. That is the day when cheap gamers like myself will start using USB flash drives to start storing additional game data on the 360. Why not use a USB hard drive? Well, a couple reasons, mainly that it will only be able to use the first 16GB on it, and Major Nelson had this to say about using hard drives.

Since performance on flash based USB storage is usually better, I highly recommend using flash based instead of spinning media like a hard drive…it’s just going to give you a MUCH better experience.

Additionally, you can use 2 devices simultaneously for up to 32GB of USB storage at a time. However, you can’t just plug it in and the 360 automatically format it. You’ll have to do that through the memory area in system settings, but that shouldn’t be too big of a deal.

Currently going to school in Indiana so when Drew isn't studying, you can find him playing games. Though he is typically playing games from this current generation, he'll still bust out classic consoles for a night of nostalgic gaming. If he is not studying or gaming, he is usually out working on his photography. Thinks sleep is for the weak. Favorite Games: Metal Gear Solid, Mega Man 2, Goldeneye
