The HD remake of the Metal Gear Solid games comes out later this year, but before it does, the classic tactical espionage series will be involved in another remake.  Traditional board game maker Hasbro has teamed up with Konami in order to create a slightly modified game of their classic RISK.  While mildly surprising, this actually seems very cool.  RISK actually seems like a great way to encompass a surprising amount of the PMC themes found in the various Metal Gear Solid games, especially the fourth.

"Metal Gear Solid builds on the modernized and streamlined RISK game play introduced in 2008 with all new Metal Gear Solid components to create a unique, fun and fast paced experience for RISK and Metal Gear Solid Fans alike," said Adam Sblendorio, Lead Game Designer for USAOPOLY. "In order to win you'll have to take advantage of Metal Gear Solid specific high powered black market weapons, hire the right mercenary boss at the right time, manage alliances and watch your back as the mobile battleship, Outer Haven, can invade territories from new locations (watch out Australia)."

The game is being created by USAOPOLY, Hasbro’s licensed and specialty game maker.  Metal Gear Solid RISK will be sold exclusively through the USAOPOLY online store.  It will be available for pre-order for roughly the same price as the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, $49.95 and USAOPOLY will be taking orders for the game starting on October 3, 2011.  It does seem a bit expensive, but the game’s board was designed by Metal Gear Solid’s art director Yoji Shinkawa and looks great.  The run of the game will be extremely limited, to only 2,014 copies.  Further, it is in HD.  You know, real life, so at least you can’t really complain about the graphics.
