After nearly 2 years of being a PC exclusive, retro-platformer A Pixel Story is now coming to PS4 and Xbox One. The devs at Lamplight Studios have gotten a lot of mileage out of the title (even picking up a BAFTA nomination in 2013) and are now looking to widen the audience for these hat-chucking adventures.

The story starts at 'the core of the System' where the shadowy OS is hoping to claim the universe as its own. You must traverse through 6 zones that are set up to follow the progression of graphic history. You start with the simple 8bit world and gradually move up to the complicated world of high-fidelity. The design of these levels are a bit free-form, giving you room to experiment and find your own path.

The central gimmick of A Pixel Story is the magical hat that the main character can use to teleport from here to there. Long before Mario was using his chapeau to amaze people, this pale hero was tossing off his headwear in order to reach new heights. This mechanic looks quite adaptable as you can leave your hat behind anywhere in the stage and then warp back to avoid danger and gain more altitude.

The game is currently available for Steam at $11.99 USD and will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One on February 24th for the same price. Will you be throwing you hat off in joy when A Pixel Story finds a home on consoles?
