Activision has announced the winners of the Activision Independent Games Competition. The competition, which is trying to promote innovation in games, was judged by IndieCade.

First place and $175,000 was awarded to Christopher Hui’s Iron Dragon, a flight adventure game designed for touch screen devices. Second and $75,000 went to Michael Stanton’s Planet Smashers, a multiplayer action game. The winners will retain all rights to the intellectual property rights.

It is impressive to see more companies getting involved with the independent games community and providing opportunities for more developers to make games.
