The gaming and film industries could very soon coalesce in what is arguably a renaissance of gaming film adaptations, with the likes of Need for Speed and Warcraft on the horizon, with adaptations of Metal Gear Solid, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Splinter Cell, and Assassin’s Creed in various stages of production.
On performing in the Warcraft adaptation, Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Need for Speed) described the challenge as, “quite a lot of pressure, in that you feel obligated to give the people who have spent the majority of their life playing it what they expect for it.” “People creating that world for many years and it’s got a very specific look, and the characters within that, people have already made their minds up about who they are and what they mean to them,” he explained.
Warcraft will be directed by Duncan Jones and will star Ben Foster, Clancy Brown, Dominic Cooper, Travis Fimmel, and Paul Patton. The film is set to be released on March 11th, 2016. Dominic Cooper is also slated to appear in Need for Speed which releases this Friday, alongside Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul.
