Batman: Arkham Knight‘s Amazon UK exclusive limited-edition has received its first images on the storefront, revealing what may be a major spoiler to the game’s plot.
Spoiler Alert: The following may spoil a critical piece of Batman: Arkham Knight‘s plot. Continue reading at your own risk, you have been warned.
The limited edition comes with a steelbook case, artbook, comic book, character skins pack and a statue of Batman. Inscribed on the base of the statue are the words “From a Grateful City in Memory of the Gotham Knight,” purporting that the Dark Knight will be killed in the final chapter of Rocksteady’s Arkham trilogy.
It’s strange that Warner Bros. would be so careless to spoil such a major plot spoiler with a collectible piece like this, but by looking at the listing closer you can see that on the product spread that the statue has had the text on the base changed to say “Gotham Knight” with Batman’s symbol above it. Somewhere along the line it appears that marketing made the decision to remove the tribute text for something that wouldn’t spoil the fate of the world’s greatest decective, a wise decision considering how huge it’s implications are. I’ve highlighted the differences in the gallery at the bottom of the page.
While the death of Batman would be a fitting way to put the series to rest, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Bruce Wayne will die. In Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises film he appears to perish flying a nuclear bomb over Gotham’s bay, but instead escapes in some manner to start a new life with Selina Kyle (that is if you believe the ending of the movie was not a dream of Alfred’s, of course). Regardless, it’ll be interesting to speculate about what fatal event Batman could succumb to and how the Arkham Knight character will play a role in it. Maybe the Arkham Knight could even take over Batman’s mantle with his passing? The possibilities are endless.
Batman: Arkham Knight is set for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 2nd, 2015. The Amazon UK limited-edtion can be pre-ordered now for £79.99.
