Microsoft has some pretty lofty expectations for its motion gaming Kinect peripheral for the Xbox 360, and from what we know so far, it’s doing well to meet them. Whether or not it can meet the expectations of the analyst firm Screen Digest however is an entirely different story.
The firm says that they see Kinect taking the momentum its built over the last two or so months well into the New Year, and by the end of next year surpassing the PlayStation Move by sales of around 300,000 units. To be exact, they think that the move will have sold 7.3 million units and that Kinect will have sold 7.6 million by the close of 2011.
This would be extremely impressive for two reasons. One, the PS Move had a two month head start on Kinect and Two; One Kinect unit is the same price as around three Move units. In my opinion, I think that either of these devices will have sold a lot more than eight million units each by the end of next year. But hey, that is just my opinion and this is just Screen Digest’s opinion. We won’t know for sure until this time next year.
