The 2010 film Tekken, based of course on the iconic long-running fighting series of the same name, was very poorly received. This wasn't surprising since video game movies don't exactly have a reputation for quality, but it was disappointing since the source material is so notoriously awesome. Maybe Tekken: Rise of the Tournament will get it right.

Producer Steven Paul announced the new Tekken feature at the Cannes 2012 Film Festival.

The movie will be directed by Prachya Pinkaew, the same man responsible for the martial arts matserpiece Ong Bak. It will be a prequel to the 2010 movie and won't feature popular film stars but instead actors who look similar to the characters. Against my better judgement, I'm actually getting excited about this. I'll keep watch for new details.
