Apparently the Wii U Is a Handheld Console According to Target

The confusion about the identity of the Wii U between retailers has almost reached the status of a metropolitan legend, but in some cases it is indeed true. Someone at Target, for instance, seems to think that Nintendo’s apparently recovering home console is a handheld.

As you can see in the picture below, or by visiting Target’s webpage, the Wii U’s GamePad is proudly displayed alongside the PS Vita in representation of the handheld console category.

Something tells me that a Nintendo 3DS would have been quite a bit more appropriate there, but what do I know…

Looking at mistakes like this, it’s not so surprising that Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata said last year that many didn’t buy the Wii U because they thought it was just a Wii with a new controller. At least whoever created Target’s website seems to think that it’s a 2DS XL.
