Avalanche Studios’ Christofer Sundberg: Mad Max is Just Cause’s Playground “in a Completely New Setting”

Avalanche Studios’ Just Cause franchise has an infamous reputation for its story and vast worlds that accompany them. While many clamor for the seemingly eventual follow-up, Just Cause 3, the developer is currently working on Mad Max. Somewhat unsurprisingly, a lot of Just Cause influenced Mad Max, including the design of the game’s world.

“With Mad Max, we’re building a huge wasteland world…which has been a super challenging, fun project to work with. It’s sand. It’s a desert. The variations that the team has created for that world are absolutely fantastic,” Mr. Sundberg told Polygon, “but it is that playground, in a completely new setting. It’s a much more mature setting than Just Cause. But it still has that playfulness about it that I really like.”

Mad Max is being developed by Avalanche Studios and will be published by WB Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
