EA and DICE will be adding female soldiers to Battlefield 1 with the upcoming In the Name of the Tsar expansion.

A promo image released shows the soldier, a member of the Scout class, who is a part of the 1st Russian Women's Battalion of Death which was formed in 1917. It is one of fifteen women's battalions used by the Russians in World War I. Although other titles, like Call of Duty, have had the option of female soldiers in past games, this marks the first time Battlefield will implement women into the game. No other news was announced with the addition, and it is still unknown whether or not other countries will have the female soldiers available for use.

Even though Russia and France were the two largest countries involved in World War I in terms of soldiers, both their involvement was saved for DLC. The full list of features for the In the Name of the Tsar expansion hasn't been revealed, but in addition to the female soldiers, it will feature new maps, weapons, as well as new vehicles. A new gameplay mode as well as Behemoth were included in the France expansion, but we'll have to wait until next month to hear more.

The first footage of the expansion will be shown at EA Play on June 10th, and it will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC upon release.
