To say that Battlefield 3 is one of the most highly anticipated releases this year would be something of an understatement. The game even won “Best in Show” at E3 from a large number of DualShockers Staff, myself included. That’s what makes this latest bit of news all the more jarring. The list of digital retailers Battlefield 3 will be available from has been released, and one name in particular is missing from the list; Steam. This is of course a very deliberate choice, as EA is heavily pimping their own digital platform; Origin.
Origin has a lot to live up to going against Steam, but of course Steam itself started out fairly lackluster and took a lot of time and hard work to get to the point they are today. Now I’m not saying that everybody HAS to stick with the tried and true pack leader, hell a little competition in markets like this is always a good thing. But EA better be very careful how they handle this; the internet is already buzzing with talks of boycotting the game if it’s not available on Steam. Nobody wants to take a chance on an unproven platform that might be dead in two years, when Steam has already proven itself worthy.
