EA announced the return of Battlepacks for Battlefield 4, bundles of content that include a mix of in-game items such as accessories, emblem shapes, profile pictures, dog tags, XP boosts, knives, and paints. EA also revealed a brand new way to acquire these packs: through microtransactions.

Normally Battlepacks can be earned through natural gameplay progression — the first Bronze one is earned at level 3 and then later ones are at 5, 7, 10 and more — players are now given the option to purchase Battlepacks through their online store of choice. According to EA, these microtransactions are provided “as a shortcut to catch up with their friends on the Battlefield.”

The packs can be purchased on Origin.com, Battlelog.com, through the in-game store, Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN Store. Pricing will be $1 for Bronze Battlepacks, $2 for Silver Battlepacks, and $3 for Gold Battlepacks.
