Black Desert Online‘s fantastically complex character creator is probably its most well known feature, and starting today everyone can try it out.

Daum Games Europe sent in a press release with a lot of interesting news, including the fact that starting right now, you can download the game’s character creator as a stand-alone app, directly from this link.

The executable will install a dedicated launcher, and then you’ll have to use it to download roughly six gigabytes of data (that’s how big the character assets are) in order to gain access the character creator.

In addition to that, a second and final closed beta phase has been announced, starting on February 18th. Players who pre-ordered the Explorer or Conqueror packages for the game will be entered automatically. For everyone else, registrations will be open in early February.

As an additional bonus, you’ll be able to save the appearance of the characters you’ll create with the app available today, and use it both in the upcoming beta phase and in the final game at release.

And this is not all. You can also use the character creator to participate in a contest, prompting you to create a “beast” character (basically, he or she needs to look as ugly as possible) and upload a screenshot alongside with the customization file to the dedicated site.  125 winners will be picked at random and get several goodies, including keys to the beta, but all participants will get a costume and a title.

The contest will start on January 26th, and since it’s titled “Beauty and the Beast,” presumably there will be a second part requesting beautiful characters down the line.

Last, but not least, if you want another look at what can be achieved with the character creator, you can check out the new trailer below.
