Black Ops Multiplayer Experience is Subpar

When you purchase a video game, you generally have the idea in your head that this game is going to rule. You save up the money, use a gift card or trade in old unplayed games, wait patiently in line and hype yourself up for how cool this game is going to be once you get it home and into your system. Now that you finally have it in your hands, you go home and pop it in. So far everything is awesome. No issues. No concerns. No lag. So far, so good.

But then suddenly, connection interrupted. The angry groans from everyone in the lobby with a mic on scream out from over the TV. “What the $#%@! Oh, come on!” People begin to leave not wanting to play with whoever the host was within that lobby because they have a “bad connection.” But is it really the internet connection? I’m experiencing more than just a few connection interruptions…

Black Ops Multiplayer Experience is Subpar

Now, I can only speak from my own personal experience while playing on the PlayStation 3, but lately I’ve been feeling like my multiplayer experience with Call of Duty: Black Ops has been somewhat of a mediocre endeavor. It’s not my disc. It’s not the players. It’s not the system. It’s not the connection. So, what is going on here? Why am I experiencing system lock-ups, crashes and constant freezing only with this game. I know it’s not just me who is experiencing this issue. I’ve talked amongst my network of BlOps buddies and they too are having constant freezes, system crashes and lock-ups. Bad internet connection wouldn’t do this. So, what’s the deal? Never had this much of an issue with Modern Warfare 2. There does get lag every now and then but it generally works itself out. Why did we pay $60 for a game that isn’t giving us the experience that we payed for?

I know that my internet connection is great, I’m hard-wired in. I know my friends don’t have bad connection either. When I look at the connection of everyone else in the room, it’s good too. But, what’s with the freezing? Why is my console locking up? Am I going to see another PS3 become a paper weight. I am on my third, you know. I don’t know how much more money I am willing to devote. Is this some form of software fluke that is only attacking the PlayStation 3 console? Is this happening on other platforms? What is it?!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m experiencing at least three lock-ups, system crashes or freezes a week with Black Ops. We’ve seen updates, but they aren’t doing anything. I’m curious as to how many more there are out there that are having the same problems with this game. I know if this keeps up, I’m finding a new game… because from a consumers standpoint, this is bull.
