Black Ops Sets All Kinds of Records

Remember last week when we reported that Black Ops was on track to set records, with Bobby Kotick saying as much himself? Well it turns out that information was 100% accurate! Details have emerged today that Call of Duty Black Ops has set a new 5 day sales record by making more than $650 Million world-wide in it’s first 5 days! This trumps the previous record held by last year’s Modern Warfare 2 which sold $550 Million. According to Microsoft, Black Ops has set two more records for XBox Live;

  • More than 5.9 million multiplayer hours were logged playing Call of Duty: Black Ops by end of launch day, November 9.
  • More than 2.6 million unique gamers played Call of Duty: Black Ops in one day on November 9.

Considering the line I saw at my local GameStop and the ones my friends told me about at other retailers, this isn’t surprising at all. Stay tuned for Call of Duty 2011 which is on track to break this year’s record I’m sure, unless they implement that monthly fee they keep discussing. In that case, watch for the worst selling Call of Duty of all time!
