Can’t Go One Minute Without Punching Sheep? Minecraft – Pocket Edition is Now Available

If you ever wanted to build a castle while on the crapper at work, you finally can. Early last night Mojang’s managing director, Carl Manneh, posted on their blog that Minecraft – Pocket Edition is now available for Android phones. For the time being, it’s exclusive to Xperia Play owners only, but it should be available on all Android devices shortly following.

The first build, Alpha 0.1, focuses more on the crafting aspect of the game, so I’m assuming there won’t be too many enemies showing up to destroy your structures. Additionally, Pocket Edition boasts online multiplayer across a local wi-fi network, which will presumably work in the same way multiplayer for the desktop version does.

I hope my Droid Incredible will be able to run the sucker when it eventually gets released to most Android devices; I’ve always wanted to be uber-meta and mine in Minecraft while inside an actual mineshaft. Xperia Play owners can purchase the game for $6.99 at the Android Market.
