Capcom Registers Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps Trademark in Japan

A few weeks ago, a trademark surfaced in the European Union for “Umbrella Corps.” The name definitely seemed to be related to Resident Evil, but the lack of the actual franchise title caused people to wonder what it was about.

Today the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office published the registration of a more specific trademark for “Biohazard Umbrella Corps.” For the ten people in the world that don’t know, Biohazard is the Japanese equivalent for Resident Evil.

As you can see below in the full registration document, the lettering has been registered with both its romaji and hiragana wordings.

Interestingly, the document also reveals a registration for the full range of gaming platforms, including “portable consoles with LCD screens,” “TV Home Consoles” and Mobile.

With this kind of registration, it definitely looks like a new game, or even a new spin-off series. We’ll have to wait and see what will come out of this, but it’s certainly interesting.
