Netflix's set of premiere date reveals released today and mentioned one Castlevania, of which the first season is expected to release sometime in 2017.

Titled Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 for now, there are few details about which of the franchise's many stories the series will take on as source material, but Netflix did offer some broad description.

"Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar."

Back in 2015, Adi Shankar (producer of Dredd and The Greywrote on Facebook about a series based on Castlevania III that he was producing.

"I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head."

However, it remains unclear whether this is the same project or, if it is, how substantially the project may have changed since that time. More recently, Shankar posted about the Netflix announcement, pointing out that Season One would release in 2017 with Season Two to follow in 2018.
