If one title stood out among an exceptional year of gaming last year, CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt clearly stood out as one of 2015’s best titles, though developer CD Projekt RED clarified among recent rumors of an upcoming special edition version of the game.
Late last week, several listings appeared for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Enhanced Edition on French retailers E.Leclerc and SmartToys, indicating that a special edition release of The Witcher 3 would be arriving on February 5th, 2016.
In response to these listings, developer CD Projekt RED clarified to IGN that “there’s no Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that we are aware of, this is some kind of error that we will look into,” making it seem (for now) that these may have been false/erroneous listings.
Released last year to huge critical acclaim and commercial success, it would definitely not be outside the realm of possibly that an Enhanced/Game of the Year Edition of the game is on the way, given that Enhanced Editions were released for both of the previous two Witcher titles.
However, that may not be for some time just yet, as The Witcher 3‘s second expansion, “Blood and Wine,” won’t be releasing until later this year. No formal announcement by CD Projekt RED has been made at this time for any other editions of The Witcher 3 just yet, beyond the expansions and other content coming down the line for the game.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
