In the past few days I wrote quite extensively about the fifth phase of the closed beta of ArcheAge, a high-budget MMORPG that is being developed in Korea by XLGAMES, but that has a quite solid following in the west due to its fully explorable world, navigable seas, extensive housing and peculiar sandbox features.
The beta began on Thursday (with a few server hiccups), and at level 16 I already had to travel quite a few leagues of ArcheAge‘s immense and borderless world beautifully rendered with CryEngine 3. While it’s still way too early for a full preview (that you can definitely expect around the end of the beta, scheduled for September the 1st), I thought i’d tease you with a few screenshots of the game.
One of the most interesting features I tried so far are how mounts are handled. Your faithful steed won’t just be a lifeless entity that you summon when you want and then you send back into the limbo of horses. You can actually have it follow you whether you’re mounted or not, and, as long as it’s there as you fight, it will gain levels and its own skills. It even has its own set of equipment. Of course you can also fight from horseback.
Of course there’s a lot more to see and to experience, but without further ado, I’ll leave you to the screenshots.
