City of Heroes Players Get a Crime Caper to Solve Come January

on December 13, 2011 6:00 PM

The next City of Heroes update will contain a whodunnit of sorts, as The Statesman, one of Paragon City’s first superheroes and a founding member of the Freedom Phalanx meets his untimely demise and players are tasked with the duty of discovering how the hit went down. The event is part of the fifth installment of the Signature Story Arc, which goes live for VIP players next month. Parts one through four are already available on the ParagonMarket.

The update is also part of NCsoft’s move toward a free-to-play model, City of Heroes: Freedom, which is slated to go live in June of next year.

It’s pretty gutsy to get rid of a character that’s been around since the game launched in 2004. Then again, the Signature Story Arc series has been teasing the death of a prime Paragon City figure, and you don’t get much more prominent than The Statesman.
