Granzella and Bandai Namco announced the Japanese release date of the survival game City Shrouded in Shadow on the latest issue on the latest issue of the Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu.

The game will launch locally on October 19th, even if there is no word on a western release. It will be on PS4 only, after the developer decided to cancel the PS Vita version.

We get to check out new giant threats that will add to the difficulty of surviving in the city (and to the already rich and weird mix of giant monsters and mecha, including Godzilla, The EVA01 from Evangelion and Ultraman). This time around, they're actually specified by name, and they are the police labor Ingram, the heavy labor Grau Bear and the fire department labor Pyro-Buster from the Patlabor manga and anime.

Luckily, not all of them are hostile. Shady individuals are operating some of the labors, and the Ingram from Metropolitan Police Special Vehicle Section 2, Division 2 will scramble to the rescue.

We get to meet a few new characters as well, the mysterious Ryoji Shibata, connected with the city's underworld, and his violent subordinate Katsuhiro Muto. Apparently, they're after the life of the main character.

Miho Yamamura is a lost girl that sees the heroine as an older sister. The hero will carry her on his back as they try to find her parents. Shinji Yamamura is her father, and was seriously injured in a traffic accident a few days before the story begins.

Interestingly, we also see the early purchase benefits for the game, which are costumes for both the hero and the heroine from Granzella's Disaster Report and Disaster Report 2.

Last, but not least, the screenshots feature a scene of even more giant threats. A "huge Shadow that slices through the sky" seems to be the kaiju Mothra from the Godzilla franchise, while "a giant transforming to a different type" seems to be another of the many incarnations of the Ultraman franchise.

How did this game became such a magnificently weird mix of otaku culture? I'm not sure about that... But I'm loving every pixel of it so far.

You can check all the images out below, but keep in mind that we're looking at magazine scans, so the quality is not perfect.

If you want to see more, you check out a batch of older screenshots, alongside a second, slightly older batch.
