Could Blizzard be Working on a Free-to-Play Game?

on February 23, 2012 8:30 PM

The name Blizzard and the term ‘free-to-play’ are hardly ever mentioned in the same sentence. That will soon change however, because the next game from the MMO powerhouse will be F2P, if reports are correct. The prospect is shocking, as Blizzard’s continued success with World of Warcraft (the world’s best selling subscription MMO) suggested that it would never embrace an F2P model. The winds of change have indeed been blowing though, as WOW recently went F2P up to level 20.

Blizzard has yet to release an official statement confirming or denying this rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. If the studio is working on an F2P MMO, I’ve no doubt that it will sit amongst the best F2P titles on the market. Because that’s just the way Blizzard does things.
