Crackdown 3 Director: The Cloud Has a “Ton of Processing Power;” Explains How the Idea Was Born

The Crackdown team is holding an Extra Life livestream and Crackdown 3 Director David Jones talked about the cloud and how the idea for the game was born.

“That was always looking for ways in which we can kinda push the boundaries of gaming. One of the things about Crackdown is that it’s such a physical game, and physics are really hard to do on any system […].”

“So where could we get more and more power to do that kinda stuff? And cloud is one of those things. I mean, it’s a ton of processing power, so we thought we could really solve the power problems if we could access it and make it little latency and tap into it, that we could actually take something like Crackdown and create a whole new experience with that kind of power, and that’s where the whole idea was born.”

On top of this, Producer Justin Robey also went into full teasing mode:

“The more we do with Crackdown 3… I think people are going to be super excited about what we’re gonna do with that.”

While we still have to see the cloud’s full potential applied to games, it’s certainly interesting to see how far the Crackdown 3 team will manage to push the technology.
