CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 Will Be “a True RPG Game;” Will Include “a Lot of New Gameplay Elements”

Some have been wondering on whether Cyberpunk 2077 will stick to its RPG roots or will lean more towards the shooter aspect of gaming, considering that it will have firearms, but CD Projekt RED’s Co-Founder Marcin Iwinski had reassuring words for RPG fans in an interview on IGN:

People have been asking me if Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer or if it will be a straight-up shooter, and I tell them to relax, because it will be a true RPG game.

We are known for storytelling, and big game worlds, and so we’re taking all what we’ve learnt from previous three Witcher games, as well as the open-world aspect, and applying it to Cyberpunk 2077.

Iwinski also teased the fact that there will be several new gameplay elements, but he couldn’t be more specific:

So yes, it is an all-out RPG game, but we’re looking at having a lot of new gameplay elements that I cannot talk about yet. One thing I can say for sure is that it is definitely NOT a multiplayer shooter.

That’s quite a relief. If there’s one developer I know I can pretty much trust, that would be CD Projekt RED, but it would have still been quite a pity if  Cyberpunk 2077 went the way of the shooter. Fellow RPG lovers, it’s time to break out the champagne.
