Valve announced today on the Dota 2 official blog that their annual International tournament will commence from Monday August 3rd through Saturday the 8th this year.
There will be 16 teams competing in this year’s event, with the first team invitations being sent out on May 1st. Tickets are not yet for sale, with Valve promising to make the community aware when they become available.
The Dota 2 International was one of 2014’s biggest stories in video games, awarding the largest prize pool in eSports history with over $10 million – a better bounty than the one professional golf provides for their Masters tournament. Considering how massive the game’s audience has become – drawing in an average of over 530,000 concurrent users so far this month – you’ll want to keep an eye out for the ticket sale announcement to beat millions of fans to the punch and go to this year’s event. Tickets sold out in mere minutes when I attempted to go to the tournament back in 2012 when the game was far less popular that it is today, so best of luck.
Dota 2 is available now and can be downloaded for free through Steam on PC, Mac and Linux.
