Did Nintendo Just Drop a Xenogears/Xenoblade Bomb on Us?

on January 23, 2013 9:56 AM

Talk about going out with a bang. Satoru Iwata just put the wraps on their Nintendo Direct feed of January 23rd, and closed out the video feedwith something completely unexpected.

Iwata explained that it would be coming from the folks at Monolith Soft, the same team behing the Xenosaga franchise. The gameplay that shown didn’t look like anything recent from that franchise. Especially, since much of Xenosaga takes place in space.

But then out of now where, towards the end of the Montser Hunter-like-combat filled clip, the character on screen hops into a¬†towering¬†mech. The screen goes black and a giant red “X” is shown. Could it be? I think it is.

Xenogears or Xenoblade for the Wii U.

Iwata didn’t announce it by name, but I think it’s safe to say what’s going on here. Again, I have to re-emphasize that localization was not spoken about, but from the looks of it, combining this news with the announcement of Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, maybe Nintendo is turning a new leaf in regards to RPGs on the Wii U. Maybe.

Take a look at the full trailer below.
