The official Digimon website has launched a countdown website for the 20th anniversary of the “Digital Monster,” the virtual pet toy that gave us the Digimon franchise.

The countdown on the teaser page is set to end on January 6, 2017 at 10:00 JST (46 days from now). No further information is divulged, but we do know via the latest issue of V-Jump that a 20th anniversary project for the toy has already begun, with further details to be dished out sometime next month.

For those of you who don't know, The Digital Monster was first released by Bandai Namco back in 1997 as a series of virtual pets akin to—and influenced in style by—the contemporary Tamagotchi. The game consists of feeding, training, battling, and even cleaning up after your virtual pet. The creatures were first designed to look cute and iconic, but thanks largely to American comics later developed a harder-edged style.

When there is more details on the nature of the countdown website you will be able to read it right here on DualShockers.
