This is an interesting development, but really doesn't mean a whole lot at this stage. SquareEnix recently registered a new domain through the same registrar that they've used in the past, and that domain is "www.finalfantasyxiii-3.com". This could just be the RPG giant covering all their bases, which is most likely at this point. However, a little thought in the back of people's minds is going to be considering the possibility that they will release a second sequel for Final Fantasy XIII.

If this actually ends up happening, it would be the first time in the franchise's history that two sequels were produced for a flagship game. Are there enough stories to continue telling them in the universe that we know as Final Fantasy XIII? Well, remember, SquareEnix originally planned for three titles within the same mythos - the whole Fabula Nova Crystallis thing. Yeah, remember that? Those games ended up being Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Type-0 and the rather aloof Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Now, though, we have at least one more game to add to that - Final Fantasy XIII-2.

I just hope, if this is the direction they go, they don't overstay their welcome with the world and characters in these games. There's a time to push on, which I believe they've rightly done with FFXIII-2, and a time to move on to a possible Final Fantasy XV down the line, if you get my drift. I guess we'll have to wait and see if this domain name turns into anything, or if they registered it just to have it so we don't have another modernwarfare3.com fiasco on our hands.
