There's been plenty of times I thought Beyond Good & Evil 2 was pure vaporware. Never coming. And can you blame me?  The sequel to the 2003 cult-hit was announced back in 2008..that's nine years ago. But it's real and apparently is still coming,

Back in October, Ubisoft game designer Michel Ancel -- the creator of the series, as well as the creator of Rayman -- posted on his Instagram account, sharing some behind-the-scenes concept art on the game from 2008  and revealing that “the game was playable with many prototypes” at that point of said image.

However, according to Ancel the game was suffering from many technical issues, which ultimately led to a scattered development cycle. At the time, Ancel said he and his team were faced with either cutting back on the game of its dreams, or having to stall the project, work on other games, and wait for the tech to catch up with ambition of the game. And so the team returned to its Rayman series, and Beyond Good & Evil 2 was postponed indefinitely. Until more recently that is.

In the same month (last October), Ancel confirmed the game was in pre-production and that while the team has "loooooots of work" it finally has the tech to develop the game in the way it was envisioned. And even some new concept art surfaced.

All of that being said, yesterday, Ancel was asked by a fan on Instagram whether or not the game would make an appearance at E3 2017, to which the designer replied -- though quite not this simply -- no.  He specifically said the following:

"Mhhh, not sure that E3 would be the best place to showcase Bg&e2 but were working on the game so sometime this year, you should hear about it !"

As you can see above, despite saying the game is unlikely to be pop its head up at E3, Ancel did say we should hear more about the game later in the year, which could come via Paris Games Week, PSX 2017, or perhaps even Gamescom. Or it could be something much less grand: some random Friday afternoon. Who knows.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 does not have a release date nor any announced platforms. It is being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier.
