Don’t Expect Elements from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Universe to Appear in Star Trek Online Anytime Soon

Star Trek Online continues quite some time after the events of 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis, and is essentially one of the best amalgamations of the Star Trek canon in gaming. While some of the events that occured in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 abomination film, Star Trek, appear in the game, Cryptic has once again confirmed that nothing else outside of that will be appearing in Star Trek Online anytime soon.

“Our rights to the Star Trek license covers all of the prime universe movies and television shows, so the two most recent films are not [included in the deal],” Lead Producer Stephen Ricossa told GameReactor, “We’re all fans of the new movies, so maybe one day we’ll be able to get some of that stuff into the game. There are some fun story lines and exciting ships that would be great to explore.”

Star Trek Into Darkness was released last year, and has grossed close to half a billion dollars worldwide. Star Trek Online‘s upcoming Season Nine content will be announced this year.
