Double Fine has been known for their charming and quirky gaming endeavors, and after reacquiring the distribution rights for some of its previous titles, you can expect to see them next year in full retail releases.
The studio announced that it regained the rights to Stacking and Costume Quest, previously available as download-only titles, in addition to their cult classic Psychonauts, and that all three of these titles will be receiving retail releases for PC and Mac in the first half of 2014. After having had the rights previously owned by Nordic Games, a publisher based in Austria, from the liquidation of THQ earlier this year, the company is now working alongside Double Fine for the retail releases of Stacking, Costume Quest, and Psychonauts, marking the first time that Stacking and Costume Quest have had a release outside of digital distribution.
Double Fine’s head Tim Schafer mentioned in a press release, “I am pleased that we have regained full control over Costume Quest and Stacking, following a daring and top-secret midnight raid on the Nordic Games headquarters in Vienna.” In response, Nordic Games’ Lars Wingefors stated:
“We can’t wait to partner with Double Fine for this upcoming retail launch of three of its most excellent games. However, I feel compelled to point out that we were happy to transfer distribution rights for Costume Quest and Stacking back to Double Fine in an entirely non-secretive and heist-free manner.”
Stacking, Costume Quest, and Psychonauts will see retail release on PC and Mac in the first half of 2014.
